Perched at the top of Ohayo Mountain on twelve private acres is this one of a kind, architect and designer crafted custom contemporary...arguably the newest and best luxury home on the rental market in Ulster County!

Made for entertaining in style, this private paradise is located off of a private road in an exclusive area of Woodstock/Hurley that abuts the Ashokan Reservoir. At least seven peaks are visible from all rooms of the house, and the mountain range views are even more dramatic from the massive floating cedar deck.

The house was completely constructed by master craftsman, and no expense has been spared on top of the line cabinetry and fixtures. Designer touches are visible throughout...Exposed ceiling beams; Grohe fixtures and glass or limestone tile in bathrooms; Asian inspired above counter bathroom sink bowls; designer lighting; custom staircases, glass and wood work; and custom designed bathroom vanities that were built by a craftsman that even Robert Wilson calls upon for his impeccable woodworking!

The top floor was designed as a "Master Suite" and features a magnificent loft with colossal ceiling height and spectacular views; a custom glass, stainless and wood loft surround; and a gas fireplace imported from California where flames rise above river rocks....a beautiful contemporary accent seen usually only in boutique luxury hotels. The loft houses the television center and DVD player.

A gallery hallway leads to the massive Master bedroom with cathedral ceilings and the beautifully appointed, Italian limestone master bath.

The four bedrooms are all generously sized and offer magnificent views. There are three full and one half baths, each custom appointed. The master bath is tiled in Italian limestone and features a custom built double walnut vanity, huge shower with rain head and separate hand held shower, and a six ft. soaking tub. All bathrooms include glass, limestone, and/or slate tiling, custom glass work and Grohe fixtures. ....each one uniquely designed and all beautiful.

The kitchen features high end, stainless steel appliances, a gas stove, cabinets specifically imported from Italy, and a beautiful Shivakashi granite countertop. The great room has a huge wood burning fireplace and the open concept seamlessly integrates the kitchen, dining and living areas together.

The bottom level features another full custom finished bath, a cabana or bedroom, polished concrete floors, high ceilings, RADIANT floor heating, a massive wood burning fireplace and fantastic open areas for entertaining.

The area offers incredible variety and natural beauty. Swimming holes abound in the summer, foliage in the fall is incredible, New York's best ski hills are nearby for the winter, and the spring is simply magical. There are world class spas and restaurants, and fun shopping in the quirky town of Woodstock, America's most famous small town and birth place of the musical revolution of 1969.

Year Purchased: 2005

Why the Owner Chose Woodstock

While the eastern side of the Hudson River valley tends toward rolling topography historically suitable for farmland, thanks to the Catskill mountain range, on our side we enjoy skiing, hiking, rock climbing and delicious mountain views.

The unique village of Woodstock retains the same quirkiness that attracted the likes of Bob Dylan and Janis Joplin and ultimately the infamous Woodstock music festival, garnering it the title of the 'most famous small town in America'. The pristine beauty of the surroundings inevitably grew an avid following from New York City, so a sophisticated but casual community has evolved. The Town of Woodstock proudly bears the title "colony of the arts". There are music concerts, theatre, art galleries, and film festivals along with farm festivals.

Each season is as spectacular as the next. The summer is lush and beautiful, and people of all ages enjoy frolicking in the areas many streams and swimming holes, which obviously also afford opportunities for those who enjoy fishing. There is a beautiful golf course golf in Woodstock (and many other local courses), a tennis center in Saugerties (15 minutes away), hiking and rock climbing, as a start.

The fall is absolutely spectacular, the foliage can be outrageous, the air cool and refreshing. When winter hits, there's downhill and cross country skiing, snow shoeing....or just relaxing in front of the fire and taking in the beautiful snowy views isn't too bad either. The fresh air and beautiful light that spring brings is absolutely invigorating.

The famous luxury brand (no really....Gucci, Dolce Gabana etc) outlets at Harriman are on the way from New York City, and just 45 minutes from the house.

If all the activities, shopping and dining activities aren't enough, there's many spas to choose from as well, ranging from world class to small and focused.

Whatever season, whatever your bend, whatever the age...there is something for everyone.

The Unique Benefits at this House

This is arguably one of the nicest rentals in Ulster county. It's private, beautiful, peaceful, brand new...and the mountain views are spectacular. It's on 6 acres and at the top of a mountain, but only a five minute drive to the village of Woodstock.

The house is very spacious but also intimate. The bedrooms are large and private, the bathrooms tastefully tiled in limestone and glass with custom fixtures, and the kitchen comfortably outfitted. The house is tastefully furnished, and always only improving!

Each season enjoyed from this location is as spectacular as the next. The summer is lush and beautiful, and people of all ages enjoy frolicking in the areas many streams and swimming holes, which obviously also afford opportunities for those who enjoy fishing. There is a beautiful golf course golf in Woodstock and of course many other local courses, a tennis center in Saugerties (15 minutes away), hiking and rock climbing, as a start.

Owner's Map of Woodstock

I've enjoyed a diversified life with careers in Environmental science (which I studied), entertainment, real estate and design. I live in New York but grew up in Canada and Bermuda, two wildly different climmates! When it comes to property I tend to prefer the extremes....extreme country, or extreme city, and that's one of the things I love about Woodstock. It's less than two hours from New York City, but it's a million miles away with respect to it's ambiance, culture and attitude. Woodstock is a fabulous combination of getting away from it all while still having plenty to do.

HAD A FABULOUS TIME!

Date of Stay: 01/13/12 Review Submitted: 01/19/12

Ages: 30 My group and I thoroughly enjoyed ourselves! JoAnn provided excellent and prompt service to any inquiry I had while planning this trip and even after we arrived. She was one of the main reasons I chose this home. I contacted several other owners regarding theirs, but she was always the first to respond to each and EVERY question I had and made us feel very confident and comfortable with our choice. The home is just as BEAUTIFUL and modern as the photos illustrate. It was definitely enough room for 4 couples and had anything we needed at our fingertips. At night we sipped hot chocolate and watched several shooting stars on the balcony which was a beautiful experience on a crisp winter night. I recommend this home to just anyone: couples, families, friends. You will not be disappointed!!

Luxury in Paradise

Date of Stay: 04/15/11 Review Submitted: 08/17/11

We loved the spacious rooms & the views were absolutely spectacular. Our favorite time was watching the sunsets with a glass of wine then curling up in front of the fireplace. The pictures are accurate, we have booked on the internet many times & the very few times we have been disappointed it was by deceptive photos. Not the case here. The house was spotless and exceeded our expectations. If you like nature but enjoy all the amenities a tourist area has to offer from charming Woodstock with it's cute shops & restaurants to skiing or golfing. This is the place to stay.

Absolutely breathtaking!

Date of Stay: 11/05/10 Review Submitted: 08/16/11

My spouse and I stayed at HighRocks and from the moment we stepped in the door we were in awe. During the daytime the views are breathtaking. At night the drama of the common areas commands attention in a way that is somehow cozy and warm yet thoroughly dramatic. We are avid cooks and entertained a client over a gourmet dinner cooked in the chef's kitchen. Every detail from the art to the furnishings to the massive fireplace that dominates the living area is exquisite. The master bedroom is expansive, with its own balcony overlooking the dramatic living area and there are terraces everywhere where you can step out and enjoy the piney air and the starry sky.

Loved it!

Guest: Linny (Montreal)
Date of Stay: 03/10/11 Review Submitted: 04/20/11

I loved this place, the beautiful house, the mountains, the nearby town of Woodstock and all the surrounding areas. The house is fantastic, large, elegant rooms, very tastefully decorated and everything we needed to make it a great vacation. My favourite time was coffee on the extra large deck watching the morning rise in the mountains. We took some good walks in the woods on the property. The owners and staff are delightful people. The town of Woodstock is such fun, the interesting shops and restos, the night life, even a drumming circle on Sunday in the town square. A lot of interesting country drives which we took on our own, though next time I promised myself I'd take up hiking with some of the local tours. And there will be a next time!

Owner response:Hi Linda, We are so pleased that you enjoyed your stay in this wonderful home. We go the extra mile to ensure that everything is perfect. It was a pleasure having you and your family staying with us and we do look forward to your return. A summer hiking or biking trip is a must!!! All the best, JoAnn
