Located a block and a half from the Pacific Ocean in friendly Shell Beach...This 3 bedroom, 1 & 3/4 bath home is ready for your relaxing stay in this small seaside village in Central California. This home is tastefully furnished with a mixture of antiques, casual beach decor and many modern conveniences. The living room has new fiberglass windows which open allowing fresh ocean breezes to flow throughout the house and provide plenty of warm sunlight for reading or a sun-bathed afternoon nap.
The large enclosed sun porch takes in lots of light from the wall of windows and skylight. There is comfortable furniture for reading, relaxing, or watching TV or your favorite movie. There is also a game table perfect for board games or a friendly game of cards. The dining room echoes the seaside theme with seating for 6. The kitchen provides all the necessities and then some. Newly opened up to the dining room, it is perfect for the active family and provides a very open feeling to the whole house. The main bathroom has a brand new tub, toilet and fixtures and all new plumbing & electrical (as does the rest of the house). The 3/4 bath off the 3rd bedroom shares the laundry room but does include a vanity, mirror, toilet, and shower. It is a typical beach house bath - as you sit on the throne (which is raise and kind of does feel like a throne) but perfectly clean, new plumbing and serviceable. Each bedroom has been individually decorated keeping in rhythm with the slow-paced seaside life. There are hardwood floors throughout. Ceiling fans throughout. The laundry room has full sized washer and dryer and access to the backyard, making the 3rd bedroom almost a private suite with it's own bath and outside access and private door into the rest of the house off the dining room. There is also backyard access through the sunporch and a side gate.
2 Dog maximum. No weight limit.
Please keep dogs off the furniture and remember to pick up after your dog in the yard before you leave. There is a list of reminders for when you leave on the inside of the front door.
No Cats. Sorry, no offense to cats or cat owners. We actually love cats, but the owner is terribly allergic and we do use this house ourselves.

Charming Spacious Shell Beach Cottage
Year Purchased: 2003
Why the Owner Chose Shell Beach
This house was purchased to ultimately be our retirement home so we maintain it with loving care. We love the area and cannot wait to live here someday. In the meantime, please enjoy our home and the surroundings with your family.
The Unique Benefits at this House
You are close to a plethera of activities. You are a short walk to the cliff beaches and stair access is at the end of our street! You are just a short couple of blocks from an amazing park, the Dinosaurs Cave Park, which has a great kid play area, benches for ocean watching, an outdoor palladium for concerts, a weekly art show in the summer, walking distance to several restaurants and coffee shops, kayak rental nearby. The driving beach and buggy rental are just 2 miles south. I could go on and on - which is why we plan to live in this very spot someday. Until then, we offer this as a vacation rental so you can have an awesome stay at the beach for you and your family. Also, the beaches are dog friendly as long as the dogs are leashed. The train stops one mile south of the house. The airport is about 7 miles north.
Ocean side of the freeway. 3 houses down on the right hand side.
Overlooking bluffs. Social gathering area for art festivals, concerts & farmers' markets. Large kid play area.
Alex's BBQ has been in Shell Beach for many years serving their famous ribs & chicken a full menu of other items. Next door the bar was voted Best Bar In Central California.
Owner's Map of Shell Beach
We purchased this house for our eventual retirement home. In the meantime our two young girls love our visits to the beach house as do we. Just stepping out of the car into that fresh beach air provides an immediate sense of relaxation and calm - something both of us appreciate with very busy jobs and two young children keeping up running most of the time. Our dogs love the spacious fenced yards, meeting and greeting all the other dogs and their owners who walk the neighborhoods daily, and of course their time in the ocean. The house is nicely set up so the kids can be playing in the sunporch or watching a movie and we can be relaxing outside or reading in the living room. Our children especially love the Dinosaur Caves park just a couple of blocks away. Lots of swings and sand areas and things to play on. We like it because while the kids play, we sit and watch the amazing ocean views right from the park. We love the art fairs on Sundays in the summer, the farmers market on Saturday in Arroyo Grande, bicycling to Pismo Beach village, walking to breakfast and dinner, and all the friendly people we've gotten to know in the neighborhood. The liquor store on the corner has a terrific deli and great ice cream.

This was a perfect extension of our home base for the Thanksgiving holiday. It gave us enough space for everyone to sleep in privacy, an extra kitchen for last minute heating up and was only about 10 minutes from the actual feast location. It was clean and ready to go. The only "complaint" I heard was that the 3rd bedroom bed was short - the couple who slept there said it was smaller than their double bed at home. Not sure how that could be, but that's what they said. No one used the trundle bed or really used the great room much but had we brought younger kids, it would have been helpful to have all that extra space. There were a few steps to negotiate inside that weren't in places you'd expect, so if you have trouble with stairs, you should have someone turn on the lights and point out the steps for you. All in all, it was perfect for us. We'd rent it again. Thanks!

Small Home, Nice Location But Really only One Bathroom

Positives were: comfortable beds, light & bright, with lots of fresh air. Convenient location to tour SLO, Avila, Pismo areas. Negatives were: the laundry room tiny shower and toilet mounted up on a box were below our expectations. rent. Believe it was advertised as a 3/4 bath which made me think it was small bath off the laundry room. In our opinion not suitable for adults or pre-teen. Backyard landscaping and furnishings were a bit neglected, and neighbor dog barked constantly everytime our dogs went out, so we ended up keeping in them.
Owner response:I wish I knew which neighbor dog was barking so I could address. Many of our guests bring their dog and I've not received complaints of barking. We take our dogs there also so I'm wondering if there's a new pup in the neighborhood. I'll inquire with some of the neighbors and see if this is the case. In the backyard there's a brand new pergola put up in June and the couch cushions were recovered (prior to this guest's rental dates). I shall have a word with the gardner to make sure he's not letting the trailing flowers grow out of control! I tried to be as honest as possible in describing the 3/4 bath. It is a bit beach house funky, to be sure, but there is privacy and the toilet, sink, and shower are all in good working order.

My family and I stayed here over 4th of July 2011. It was a great location as we walked down to the end of the street and were right at the beach. We watched fireworks at the nearby park and it too was in walking distance. We took along our small rat terrier who enjoyed the fenced in yard. This was her first time at the beach and the kids enjoyed taking her. The house is roomy and allows for together time as well as privacy. Thanks so much for sharing your home with us!

The Shell Beach Coast is beautifull with its rocks, and the property address Pier Street was leading us to it with a short walk. In our opinion, the listing reflected well the interior of a nicely updated house, EXCEPT the 3rd bedroom with bathroom which was called a "suite". The 3rd bedroom with the "throne" toilet and shower included the washer and dryer. All of it was uncomfortable and unattractive. The back yard had dated furniture and was cluttered with building materials at the time of our stay. We could not take the dog out because of foxtails in the yard. We would not stay there again.
Owner response:It is hard as an owner to see a less than glowing review - especially after years of return renters and $30,000+ in renovations since March. That said, we did have some left over construction items at the far corner of the yard. Nothing dangerous as the renters were two elderly women and no children These items are obviously gone as we've had renters with children and dogs in since (it just took bugging the contractor a bit to come and pick up the left over plywood & insulation). We did reimburse the renters a percentage of their cost to stay at the house in an attempt to offer good customer service. The 3/4 bath is what one renter called "fun and funky." Perfectly functional and much more convenient than only one bathroom. Also very clean with new carpet and paint. Sometimes we giggle while sitting on the "throne" but we all use it. It is, as the reviewer pointed out, a combination bathroom/laundry room. It does have its own door so there is total privacy. Very typical of beach cottage efficiency. The backyard has a mixture of wonderful old wicker furniture (with actual springs in the seats!) and typical Home Depot metal swivel outdoor chairs. The pergola is brand new and offers a wonderful place to sit and enjoy the beautiful ocean breezes. I'm not sure what "foxtails" are, but most of our tenants for the last 8 years have had dogs and this is the first mention. I'll have to look it up on the internet and if it seems warranted, we'll have them removed. I feel badly that these gueses were not taken with the house. For my family, we can't wait until the day comes when we can live there fulltime.

My friends and I wanted to stay in the Santa Maria area to eat as much tri-tip barbecue as humanly possible, and this was the perfect place. Close to Santa Maria and all the bustle in Pismo, but in a charming, quiet neighborhood out of the way. There were four grown men, and we had plenty of space and then some. The grill in the backyard was perfect for making our own tri-tip, and the owners provided plenty of cooking equipment, dishes, etc. If they had had a hammock, I would probably still be there right now.

The house is great for small group. Location is in a quite and very short walk to the beach and park. Plenty of room in the backyard. Kitchen is small but has everything you need. Nice to be at a vacation rental where the owners are using it instead of just vacation rental.

A comfortable, roomy house in a great location with friendly, responsive owners. Close to many attractions: Morro Bay, Hearst Castle, beaches, and wineries in every direction. It's just an hour to Solvang and a little more to the Big Sur. A lot of wonderful restaurants in the various nearby communities. There is a lovely park a five-minute walk away, on the water, where there are Saturday Farmers' Markets with food and crafts--and a first-Sunday-of-the-month arts and crafts show. There is always something to do--or as we so often do, grab a book and sit on the beach and relax.

We love the artistic Shell Beach house. It has everything a regular house can offer, washer/dryer for the wet suits, full kitchen and BBQ, fully stocked towels and lots of room. It is comfortable and walking distance to the beach, food and stores. We have stayed several times and will go back later this year. The owner is very responsive and has pride in ownership.

My husband and I bought this house several years ago as our eventual retirement home. We love the peacefulness of the area and the clean air of the ocean. While we await retirement age, we offer this house as a monthly vacation rental. Everyone who has stayed in this house has commented on the positive energy in the house. How it is so bright and comfortable. The furnishings are nice but not fancy in order to perpetuate that relaxed vacation feel. The colors used throughout the house are also very relaxing. The minute you step from your car and look down the street at the ocean, you're body relaxes and the world is brighter. We work to make sure that everyone who stays in this house has a positive experience - from the high count sheets to the immediate response to any little repair or concern that may come up. We hope you will chose to stay with us and love this house as much as we do.
