We spent 3 weeks at Hale Romantik over Christmas and New Years 2012-2013. The home is very nice and comfortable too! We loved the sliding doors from the bedrooms which allow even better ocean views! The Lanai was amazing and the location on the Lava Cliffs was spectacular when the waves were raging and even when the seas were calm. We heard the whales at night and as we were leaving, they started to appear during the day too. We totally agree with other reviews that Milolii is a secluded, out of the way location. Don’t plan on coming here to have immediate access to the tourist spots. But we loved the fact that Milolii is located between Kona and Hilo. Each day we could decide which direction we wanted to explore. The landscape of this area is Lava, which is different from what we are used to, we grew to like it. The one caution we would have is because of the Lava landscape and the steep cliffs, having kids here would require attentive parents.. I worried about my husband who would go out and walk to the edge of the cliff….. The Owners were good hosts, they work very hard to keep the properties nice and to ensure that their visitors have everything they need. Our plan for this trip was to totally “escape” from everything (and everyone) for three glorious weeks! This is why we specifically chose the seclusion offered by the Milolii location. We have rented many times from vrbo.com and this is the first home we have stayed in where the owners lived close-by and were active in the management of their rentals. Our feeling is that this hindered our plan of escaping from it all as the Owners were so attentive that they dropped in quite often. We never were sure when we might have guests knocking at the door. The Washer & Dryer are coin operated - we were always trying to find quarters as we would forget to get some while in town. So bring lots of quarters with you! All in all – we had a wonderful time in Milolii and at Hale Romantik. It is a nice location to escape the normal tourist type vacation and experience really living on the island.Recommended for: Adventure seekers, age 55+, tourists without a car, pet owners.

The Hawaiian word for breath, exhale and life is "ha." This vacation rental has all the "ha" one needs to relax, rejuvenate and reconnect to nature or your loved one. It's remote; don't come here if you need to be in the center of everything. But do come here if you crave a break from the daily grind. Come here if you want to hear and see the ocean literally in front of you as you lounge on the lanai. Come here if you have a car and want to explore the bizarre and unique island that is Hawaii. The rental is located in the village of Miloli'i, which is about 2 hours south west of Hilo and 1 hour south of Kona (two of the major towns on the island.) It's not easy to find/get to: you have to drive down this crazy road, but it's TOTALLY worth the effort. There is no grocery store (stock up before arriving), no bars, no churches and I don't think it's for people with young children. But there is a lot of character; it's a combination of being in a third-world country and being on the moon. The house is literally built on hardened lava. The pictures are accurate; the house is beautiful and the most amazing part is the lanai. You are just steps from the ocean! It is on a steep cliff, so no swimming right here, but with a car, there are plenty of beaches (green sand beach was our favorite) and hikes with in an hour's drive. The house easily sleeps 6; 3 bedrooms, could fit in more just fine though. However: note that the third bedroom is underneath the house. It's more private, but not as nice in my opinion. The only drawback I can think of is the walls don't go all the way to the ceiling so there may be noise from the bedrooms if you want to get wild ;) The house is COMPLETELY stocked. As in, I've never stayed anywhere this stocked before!!! Sugar, coffee filters, hot sauce, spices, toilet paper, bug coils, towels, hair dryers, snorkeling gear, kayaks...and most importantly, a wine opener...seriously, it is STOCKED! And CLEAN. We didn't get to use the kayaks as you need to transport them. We did take advantage though of the snorkeling gear and coin-operated washing machine! Our stay was amazing. Rejuvenating, interesting and restful. We did venture to the little "village" near here for a tiny festival and found the locals to be very kind. If you want something different, peaceful, easy and comfort though out, then The Big Island and vacation rental 208226 is for you! It is remote, and it is too good to be true. Cheers!Did you find this review helpful? Yes | No Helpful votes: 0/0

This home is as advertised. It is beautiful, comfortable, peaceful, and ideally located. When I walked through the door and out on to the lanai for the first time, I simply said, "Wow, this is incredible!" You will not find a better view. It's stunning. Great location if you want peace and quiet and to get away from the resort crowds of tourists. The owners are kind, helpful, and trustworthy. I highly recommend a stay at this home.Recommended for: Adventure seekers, families with teenagers, romantic getaway, sightseeing.

Spent the July 4th holiday here. The house and amenities are excellent. It was perfect to relax and watch the ocean with the great view. Even the snorkeling is great a couple blocks away at the boat launch. They provide lots of gear: mask, snorkels, fins and everything need for kayaking as well. It is a little distance from Kona but well worthwhile if you want some peace and quiet.Recommended for: Families with young children, romantic getaway.

This home feels so spacious because of a vaulted ceiling with exposed wood beams. The furnishings are such that you'd be fine just hanging around the house for a day's break in between excursions. For families that need or like to cook the kitchen area is fully appointed with what you need to dish up a delicious meal; we were given fresh caught Ahi by locals at the Milolii Beach Park and made a nice meal right in the kitchen. You can then have your meals just a step outside the kitchen on the deck and enjoy the sea while eating. Mrs. Jensen was very helpful. It was so important to us to stay at a place with good reviews. This place did not disappoint!!Recommended for: Age 55+, families with young children, sightseeing.

Stayed there August 10th-12th and the house was absolutely amazing. The view off the porch of the sun setting on the ocean was one of the most beautiful sites I have seen. The rental was immaculate, spacious, and in a very quiet town. Best part is the grocery store is not as far as it seems, we were able to stop in Captain Cook about a half hour away and stop at a grocery store there that more than met our needs. Owners were really, really nice and made sure we had everything to enjoy our stay. WHEN my wife and I make it back to Hawaii we plan on going during the winter and staying here because there is no question you will see whales off the porch in this house. Super awesome views of the ocean. Can't say enough about this place, located about an hour from Volcano National Park. Definitely worth the drive to stay here. Loved sitting on the porch at night looking at stars and listening to the ocean.Recommended for: Romantic getaway, sightseeing.

These couple from England were celebrating their honeymoon at Hale Romantik'. They left us this note on August 7th. "Hi, Thanks for everything, we had a great time staying in your lovely house. It is like a home from home and really comfortable. It was very kind of you to let us stay later because of our flight time. We hope everything is O.K., as we have tried to leave the house as we found it. Kind regards, Yvonne & Ian Williams.Did you find this review helpful? Yes | No Helpful votes: 0/0

It's the perfect "get away". To get there you take a mango/coffee tree lined hwy and then descend adventurously to oceanfront Milolii. A community with stunning views of the ocean and volcanic geography. The house has a beautiful deck where you can enjoy the ocean. From the inside, you can see/hear the ocean from every window. The house has everything you need - it was home! It is meticously maintained and has gear for outdoor fun. The owners are gracious hosts providing help with items in the house and about the area in general. We had a fabulous time and will be back soon! Thank you for this fantastic place - we've made memories that our family will remember forever.Recommended for: Adventure seekers, age 55+, families with teenagers, girls getaway, romantic getaway, sightseeing.

Hale Romantik is a true gem of a place. We thoroughly enjoyed ouselves there and must say that of all the places we stayed at while on the Big Island, this was the most awe inspiring and best equipped house of all. Just remember to bring a couple of rolls of quarters to use the washer/dryer. You don't want to be driving up the hill just for that! Beautiful place, great hosts. We will be back, no doubt about it. Thanks Ole and Elaine.Did you find this review helpful? Yes | No Helpful votes: 0/0

This house was perfect for a getaway with my wife and parents. With two master sweets we each had our own area. I was very surprised by how much space you have from your neighbors. We stayed at the lovely Hale Romantik for part of our 20th Anniversary vacation. The home was delightful and I only wish we had spent more time there and less on another island. It is away from the typical tourist traps and quite peaceful. When we go back...it will be for at least a week!Did you find this review helpful? Yes | No Helpful votes: 0/0

To the Jensens, What a pleasure it was to stay in your oceanfront home. It was the prefect getaway for our honeymoon. The sunset and sound of the waves made this the most romantic place we have ever been. We were blowen away by the inside of your home, from the kitchen all the way to the palm leaf ceiling fans, This is diffently a 5 star oceanfront home! The listing was accurate regarding the location, layout, and amenities. We did not use the coin-op laundry facilities but they are available. The property was clean and very well maintained. The owners provided excellent customer service and even called to make sure that everything was in proper order. I would recommend this property to a friend or relative as it was convenient to many attractions on the south end of the island, including the Volcanoes National Park.Recommended for: Sightseeing
Owner response: FYI - The coin operated washer and dryer are to help defry the cost of the private water delivery service.

Uwe, Christine, Anselm, Johannes und Peter Brocks aus Hamburg in DeutschlandDid you find this review helpful? Yes | No Helpful votes: 0/0

My partner and I stayed at the Hale Romantik in July, 2009, for three days and loved the solitude and quiet beauty of a house on a lava bed overlooking the ocean. We snorkled just down the street, were greeted by neighbors with a smile and a wave, and purchased fresh-caught "Ono" fish from he neighborhood fisherman to grill on the lanai gas grill. We loved the open-air feel of the tile floors and enormous lanai, where we could sit and watch the sun go down or a school of dolphins pass by. The king-sized bed was comfy, bathrooms roomy and sparkling, and lots of extra features like beach towels, etc. The owners, Ole and Elaine were very welcoming and helpful. It was a high point in our stay on Hawaii! Mahalo, Marily & BillRecommended for: Adventure seekers, age 55+, families with teenagers, girls getaway, romantic getaway.

This comment was found in this vacation rental home addressed to the owners, Ole and Elaine Jensen. We talked numerous times with the Raghaven's over the telephone. Our schedule did not allow us to meet with them personally. We would have liked to see them in person! Dear Jensens: Thank You for renting your home to us. We enjoyed our stay very much. We were at home in your kitchen, spent many relaxing hours and meals on your lanai. The sound of the waves and whales were theraputic! Thank You for your tips and for keeping your home so well equipped. Thanks for the magazines, they helped plan our exciting snorkeling and surfing adventures. Hi Ole & Elaine: As much as we have to leave Hale Romantik', duty calls us back to the mainland. Thank You for you hospitality and all the little things that made us feel taken cared-of. (Oranges on the lanai table, bottled water, directions to use the TV). We really enjoyed ourselves. Thanks again for sharing your wonderful beach home with us.
