Property description

This 'classic' beachhouse is located on the beach of Harbor Island, which opens out to the St. Helena Sound and the Atlantic Ocean. This is a great family gathering place, with 5 bedrooms, sleeping accommodations for 12. This house offers amenities to enjoy the beach year round: a private heated pool ($200/week) for spring and fall visits and a fireplace for winter retreats. We are located on the north end of Harbor Island. You can enjoy the ocean air while your children take a break from the sand and surf to swim at your own private pool. Exterior showers make it easy to rinse off before retiring to the interior of the home. And the large park size charcoal grill located by the pool is a fun way to prepare your meals while lounging by the pool. The open floor plan provides great family time, whether you are cooking, eating, or lounging in the living room. You can view the ocean from all of these areas/functions. In 2009, we upgraded all of the Queen and King beds with luxury pillowtop mattresses. You may not want to wake up, except that you have the water and sun begging you to come out and play! In September of 2010, we upgraded the master bed and a queen bed upstairs. We are very excited with the improvements and we hope you are too! We also added shower access in our master bath jetted tub, which overlooks the sound/ocean. The master bedroom also has a private screened porch. Large upstairs bedroom has a private porch overlooking the pool and beach. And the third oceanview bedroom has great views of the dolphins splashing and playing close to shore. Relax in the living room overlooking a spectacular view of the water, while watching the shrimp boats and dolphins go by.
Our home provides you with a fully equipped kitchen with two refrigerators and 2 sets of washer/dryers. WIFI is provided for your convenience for work or to just keep in touch back home. Yes, this home has it all at your finger tips.
Fresh seafood is available minutes away and lunch and dinner can be found at Johnson s Creek Tavern, Boondocks, and you have to try the infamous Shrimp Shack. All area restaurants are casual, family friendly, and children are always welcome. Spend the day at the Beach Club, swimming in the olympic size pool, playing volleyball, laughing with your children on the playground, grabbing a snack at the cafe, or working out.
Who likes to fish and crab? Well we have it! Public docks, fishing/ crabbing piers, and you can even fish right on the beach. Check out Hunting Island state park and their fishing lagoon or their fishing pier that extends well into the Atlantic for easier catching. Hunting Island also offers tours of its lighthouse. Can you imagine the view from the top, it is absolutely breathtaking.
Rent kayaks, bicycles, or take boat tours. Take a horse and carriage ride on your own horse through a guided horse ride on the beach. Here you will find endless fun in the sun and family adventures are right outside your door. This is one place you will never want to leave. We have it all. Don?t forget the chocolate tree in historic downtown Beaufort. They make their own chocolate right on site.
On our barrier islands, the tides are semi-diurnal, which means that our shoreline experiences two almost equal high tides and two low tides each day. At high tide, the water can swell to an average of 7-9 foot tides. At low tide, you may find that you walk out about 300 yards to get to the ocean. The beach also changes from month to month and year to year. Due to the shallow grade of our beaches, there are very little waves to speak of on our beaches, which is great for little ones. For the folks in your party that want to body surf, we have Hunting island State park open 7 days/week.

We are on an island and sometimes the power goes out, sometimes the water is shutoff for work being done and sometimes we have internet/phone issues. It is part of island life and it is usually for only a short period of time....If you have work that is critical, we can find an alternate location to get on-line during the vacation. We open up our office to our guests to provide access to the internet, printer, fax or phone for conference calls. If you experience problems with the internet, be sure to let us know what operating system you are using, if you have searched for "available wireless networks" prior to calling the office. We have labeled the routers with the network name and password, if any. That information is also sent to you in the Welcome Letter.

South Carolina Oceanfront Vacation Home! 12/06/2011

My South Carolina vacation was wonderful at this beachfront house. The location was perfect. It was great walking the beach, and fishing. My friends and I caught Spot and Red Drum while fishing between the bay and ocean – all just a short walk from the house. When surf fishing and crabbing didn’t fill our days and our nets, we kayaked the marshes. Wildlife was all around. Dolphin watching was a sport each day directly in front of the house. The pool was not the only thing private; it was a rare day to find another soul on the beach.

I loved the low country with its local flare and quaint shops in Beaufort and Front Royal. One of the seafood restaurants was a favorite. The dockside dining was great. What could be better for a bear’s lunch than fresh shrimp right off the boats?

Another great spot was Hunting Island State Park, only a 5 minute drive away. It offers lush surroundings with a nature walk and the Atlantic beach for shelling. A lighthouse completes this picturesque island and offers spectacular views from atop!

Back at the beach house at the end of the day, the supper comfy beds helped us relax to enjoy each new day’s beautiful view.

From the south: Take I-95 North, take S.C. exit 8 (Hwy 278/Beaufort/Hilton Head). Turn onto Hwy 278, toward Hilton Head/Beaufort. Travel approximately 4 miles and turn left at the sign for Beaufort. (If you pass the Wal-Mart, you missed the turn). Stay on this road until it dead-ends at Hwy 170. Turn left onto Hwy 170 and continue for about 11miles, cross the Broad River Bridge, and turn right onto Hwy 802 (the next right turn after the bridge at the BP Gas Station). Take this road for a couple of miles until it comes to an end and turn right to stay on the same hwy. Stay on Hwy 802 (you’ll cross over the bridge by Parris Island) until you come to a fairly major intersection with a CVS, a gas station, a Hardee’s, and an auto parts store. Turn right at this intersection. You will still be on Hwy 802. (You’ll know it’s the right turn because you’ll see signs for Fripp Island). At all times, follow the signs toward Fripp. You’ll cross another bridge over to Lady’s Island. After crossing the bridge, travel another mile or 2 and make a right hand turn onto Hwy 21. Sherwin Williams and a Publix will be at this intersection. Go approx 15 miles on Hwy 21. You’ll go over one final drawbridge and then turn left onto Harbor Island. Once you pass through the security gates, (you will pick up your passes at Security Gate) follow the road out toward the beach. It will curve to the left – just keep following it. 150 North Harbor Drive is about 1/2 mile on the right.

From the north: Go I-95 South, take exit 33 (US-17 N) toward Charleston/Beaufort. Go approximately 8.5 miles and turn right onto US-21 S/Trask Pkwy. Follow US-21 S/Trask Pkwy for about 14 miles, then stay straight to go onto US-21 BR/Boundary St. Continue to follow US-21 BR, which becomes US-21. Continue another 13 miles and turn left onto Harbor Island. From there, follow the directions above.

About the owner: Ron and I moved here to Beaufort from Atlanta almost 6 years ago. This is quite a change of pace from living in Atlanta and we LOVE it. We wanted a nice place to raise our three girls and we believe we have found it in Beaufort!!! Harbor Island was just listed in Southern Living magazine (April 2010) as one of the top secret beaches. Come see for yourself what makes this place so unique.

Why the Owner Chose Harbor Island:
We love to spend time with family. This island has the amenities that children love (pool, playground, tennis, etc), but with a bonus of being a small gated community so that I feel comfortable letting my children play on the beach unsupervised. It is a very relaxing way to vacation. In addition, since the ocean is very shallow, it is a safe swimming/beach environment for small children and a wealth of exploration available at low tide.
