We (two couples) stayed in this great apartment during the first week of April. The location is away from the tourist crowds and yet very convenient to all of Venice’s many attractions. We loved living in a residential area with few other tourists around and enjoyed feeling part of a neighborhood. The other tenants in the building were friendly and helpful. The apartment was quiet, well equipped and immaculate. There is plenty of space with an eat-in kitchen, living room/dining room and 2 bedrooms. The bathroom was very modern. Having a washing machine was a plus, and hanging clothes out to dry made us feel like true Venetians! There are 2 vaparotto stops within a 5 minute walk. The nearest stop is also the stop for Alilaguna water bus from the airport, which is extremely convenient. Outdoor markets, bakeries, stores, art galleries and restaurants are all easy walking distance. Carmen and Mauro are very responsive to email and gave easy to follow directions. We look forward to returning to Venice and will plan to stay at this apartment again.

The apartment was exactly as advertised with a lovely view of the canal. It is a bit off the beaten path and was somewhat difficult to find at night but, once we did, we were very pleased with the accommodations. You can pick up the Vaporetto right near the apartment, but everything is within walking distance - although a bit of a hike. Carmen and Mauro were very helpful when we booked the apartment and provided us with helpful information. All in all, a very nice stay and we would recommend the apartment.

My mother sister and I travelled to Italy from Australia for our first European adventure Our experience staying in this adorable apartment was superb. We loved waking to the church bells and sitting out on the balcony watching the world go by. To come home to this gorgeous sanctuary after a busy day with the "tourists" was welcoming to say the least. Beautifully decorated and comfortable with the perfect location. So easy to find your way around and so close to the vaporetto & markets. I will return to Venice and Camello will be first choice for accomodation. You can really have the Venetian experience here.

If you want to live as a Venetian, stay here! Although it was my fourth visit to Venice in the last few years, it is the only time I really experienced Venice instead of being just one of the millions of tourists. Camallo Venice is on a small canal in a neighborhood of everyday Venetians- not tourists. We loved lingering on the terrace, watching the men across from us in the mosaic factory, the fishermen, people doing their daily shopping, hanging the laundry and taking their boats out for a spin. Apartment is very comfortable, tastefully decorated, and light and airy with a back terrace as well as a front terrace. Internet works great. Carmen is very thorough and helpful. She sent us detailed information about location, services, home utilities and parking. She anticipated any question we might have. We parked our car in Venezia-Mestre in the car park in front of the station, took the train (4 minutes) to the Santa Lucia Station in Venice and then walked to the apartment as we didn't want to get on the vaporetto with our luggage. Some of the vaporettos are very crowded. We didn't have to arrive at a specific time or wait around for a key as a neighbor let us in and then gave us our key. Very efficient. This sweet woman also took us to the well equipped supermarket "Billa" which we would have never found on our own. We enjoyed eating on the Cannaregio Canal- outdoor cafes, fair prices- especially for Venice, entertaining people watching and beautiful views- lively in the daytime and romantic at dusk and evening. At the end of my last visit, I was more than ready to leave Venice -swore I would never go back-too many people, too impersonal, too hustling. But this time, I discovered a different Venice and fell in love with it. I wish we had had more days. If you are lucky enough to stay here, spend lots of time soaking up Venice on the terrace of this lovely apartment and be sure to dine on the Cannaregio Canal. Skip some of the museums and "must sees." This is where the real Venice is.

My family (2 adults, 3 children, preteen and younger) stayed in this apartment for 5 nights at the end of August, and it was wonderful. Very tranquil, well furnished, and close to bakeries & supermarket. The train station is a quick 15 minute walk, and it was easy to find the apartment, even though it was our first time in Venice. Communication via email with Carmen was quick and easy, and we appreciated the flexibility shown to us since our train out of Venice was much later than the check out time. A wonderful woman downstairs showed us in, she does not speak English but we managed to communicate just fine! The apartment is clean, well furnished, and exactly as Carmen described. The AC was a great plus for our family after a full day of walking, since it was hot and muggy there during our stay. And my kids enjoyed hanging the laundry everyday, just like the locals! Thank you Carmen for making our stay very memorable; we will definitely rent from you again on our next visit to Venice, and for anyone considering an apartment in Venice, we wholeheartedly recommend this apartment!

Our Family of four, 2 adults and 2 teenagers stayed for 3 nights in July 2011. We loved the apartment. We have stayed in lots of vacation apartments in many countries, you can tell which ones have been furnished and equipped as a vacation rental or as a "HOME", this apartment was furnished as a home and not as a vacation rental, the furniture is beautiful, the decor gorgeous and the kitchen is equipped with everything you could ever possibly need. it is located in a residential area of Venice, with a short walk to the main areas. There are some really nice restaurants within a few minutes walk from the apartment and they tended to be a lot cheaper than restaurants in the main touristy areas. The supermarket is a ten minute walk. I would make one suggestion to the owners, Please provide a Wheelie shopping bag,(all the locals seemed to have one) instead of having to purchase flimsy plastic shopping bags from the supermarket. We would rate this apartment 10 out of 10 and would loved to visit and stay here again. Downey Family, San Francisco, CA. USA

We stayed in this apartment for three nights in the month of June 2011 and we felt like home. The owner was very helpful and prompt in her Email communications. Also, the lady who received us at the apartment was very nice and eager to help! Cannaregio is a lovely residential neighbourhood with great shopping and restaurants. Would recommend the apartment to my friends and family.

My family of 4 adults stayed in this apartment for a week in May. We always stay in self-catering accomodations and we travel frequently. Our visit was just prior to full tourist season, although from what I hear Venice is busy all the time. Our first impression of the apartment was favourable as it was so easy to navigate there by foot from the Train Station (maybe 1 km). After being shown through the apartment by the lovely woman downstairs we opened all the windows and let the wonderful Venice breezes flow through. It was absolute heaven, no wonder they never use clothesdryers. We only needed the air-con at night. The grocery store is a quick walk and if you want fruit, fish or baked goods, they are all accessible within 15 mins. Venice is a walking city and it is crazy busy with tourists. I can't tell you how heavenly it was to make your way back at end of day to this refuge. It is a home, and you feel that the minute you walk in. We stayed at 3 of Carmen and Mauro's apartments during our European adventure and must say, although the are all very chic (like Carmen), they are homey and welcoming after a long day of sightseeing. Everything you need is there whether for cooking or sleeping, although as C&M stated, their TV only speaks Italian!. And there is a Nespresso machine in each apartment if good expresso is important to you, they are fantastic machines! We walked everywhere and never used the waterway. Venice is a challenging maze of streets and walking is definitely an adventure. The apartment is situated well for getting in and out of Venice. Although the Aliguna pick up was a few minutes from the apartment we chose to use the cheaper option and take the bus (air conditioned) to the aiport and it was a quick walk just past the train station(20 mins). There is a Vaporetto stop within a 5 minute walk as well if you do not like to walk through Venice as we did. Our daily decisions involved which direction we would walk to the San Marco area, via the Dorsodoro or through the tourist maze. The streets have signs everywhere telling you how to get to the main tourist areas. Friends of ours just returned from visiting Venice and stayed in a centrally located hotel. Unfortunately their memories of Venice are not as sweet as ours and I believe choosing the right place to lay your head and recharge your batteries is the reason. I would highly recommend this apartment to people who want to take away the best Venice has to offer

I agree with all the previous posters. This was my third trip and VRBO rental in Venice and the best accommodation by far. This apartment is excellent in every way: quiet location, exceptional amenities and the most comfortable King size bed, beautiful linens and a fully equipped kitchen. We enjoyed shopping at the fruit, fish and meat markets steps from the flat. The location is perfect for arriving and leaving either by train or bus from the airport. We stayed in Dec.2010 and the heating was perfectly comfortable and adjustable. Carmen was always available via email to answer any questions we had. Thank you for making our 25th anniversary in the beautiful city so wonderful. We have stayed at other flats in Venice and elsewhere but none so comfortable and immaculately kept as this. I highly recommend you give this consideration, as you will not be disappointed. Having the front and back balconies is an added bonus- we had our morning coffee there and evening glass of wine and were quite comfortable despite the cold temperatures. The view is wonderful, as is being along a small canal. My only ( minor) issue was that the apartment was refreshed with some perfumed product ( spray?) and as I am allergic to perfume and scents, we needed to air out the flat before we could spend much time there upon our arrival after a very long journey from Canada. Once that was dealt with there were no further issues. We were worried about the aqua alta and did encounter it in St. Mark's square but the house keeper who lives onsite had pointed out where the " wellies" were, which saved us having to purchase any. Carmen and her husband have thought of everything to make your visit most comfortable. Had we known how vast their tourist book collection was, we could have left most of ours home. They have thought of everything. I also should mention the beautiful modern bathroom. We hope to soon be back in Venice the city we love so well. Grazie!
Owner response:Thanks for the wonderful review. Your words sounded like music to me ! I'm grateful also for reminding me that parfum and scent cannot be always well telorated by guests. I will take into consideration this (minor) issue and I will ask to my house keeper to avoid the usage af any scent since now. MAny tahnks, Carmen

I stayed here for 2 months (September & October) with various friends/family visiting and loved it. The location is away from the tourist crowds and yet very convenient. I loved living in a residential area with fewer other tourists around, and feeling part of a neighborhood. The other tenants in the building would greet me at the grocery store on on the calles. There are 2 vaparotto stops within a 5 minute walk. Outdoor markets, stores, a great deli (Rizzos) and a big grocery store are all easy walking distance. The apartment is charming and very welcoming. It is 40 steps from street to door and there is plenty of space with eat-in kitchen, livingroom/dining room and the 2 bedrooms. We spent many hours out on the balcony overlooking the locally used canal, frequently having meals out there or at least a glass of wine. I loved being able to do laundry in the apartment and hanging out the clothes from the 2nd little balcony off the kitchen. It felt great to be out wandering this wonderful city and coming home to such a warm, welcoming place. I would absolutely recommend this place as a wonderful place to stay. If you want a special treat for eating (and it will cost you E100 per-person) try the Columbo - take the vaporetto to the Rialto, turn right off the ramp and on your left, across from the gondola stand ,is the CaCarbon. Walk in a couple of blocks and look for the resturant set back and on your right. The food is great and the staff helpful and fun--I took different guests there 4 times. Thank you Carmen and Mauro for proving me with this wonderful place and making my dreams come true.

As a family with two teenagers we decided to book an apartment rather than a hotel so that we had more living space plus our own cooking facilities (teenagers like to eat!!). It was great to have all the usual home comforts plus the wonderful addition of some classic Italian furnishings. The air-con was a god-send at the end of a hot day and I loved hanging out the washing Italian style ! We enjoyed being in a quieter residential part of Venice - it was easy to get to the main tourist spots but we could retreat to a calmer quieter place at the end of the day. We loved Venice!

My wife and our 2 kids (7 &11yrs old) had the pleasure of spending 3 nights at this beautiful, spacey apartment in early July. The apartment is conveniently located less than a 5 minute walk from a vaporetto stop, which is a quick, and inexpensive way to travel throughout the Venetian waterways. The apartment is impeccably decorated, and the air conditioning was put to good use as the temperature was very hot during our stay. When the water taxi brought us to the apartment, he said we would be living like true Venetians, and it is not located in a touristy part of Venice. With that being said, there was plenty to see and do all within a 5 minute walk of the apartment. The transaction with Carmen was smooth and without any surprises. I would stay here again in a heartbeat. Grazie, Mike

Spent a wonderful week at the apartment. Just as described and felt right at home. Mrs Piovesan was a delight. Felt like wrapping her up and taking her home. Cannaregio was a truly wonderful part of Venice. Close enough to walk to all the tourist sites. It was such a great feeling when we turned at the Guglie Bridge and walked along the wide pavement along the canal to go through all the little lanes to get back to the apartment. It was very peaceful at night. Loved sitting out on the balcony having our breakfast and actually enjoyed washing and hanging out our clothes 'Italian style' from the balcony. Just felt like one of the locals. Finally a big thank you to Carmen who made the whole trip go very smoothly. She came to our rescue when our flight was cancelled (volcano) and let us return to the apartment for a couple of days although she had planned to use it herself. Cheers Carmen!! PS Lovely little restaurant nearby called Trattoria Le Campane (left at Guglie Bridge, on left hand side approx 5mins or less walk).

A lovely home away from home with all the conveniences a person could ever want. Great quiet residential neighbourhood and not far to transport, market or local restaurants serving great food. Both balconies were conveniently for sitting and watching the world pass by. Views from the front overlooking a little canal at sunset with a glass of wine from the great local wine merchant was very relaxing after walking the streets of Venice. A perfect place to escape the crowds. The pictures on the website are a true reflection of what you get. The second bedroom is on the small side, but the sofabed in the lounge is very comfortable while the main bedroom is very spacious. Everything was clean and bright with lovley venetian pieces, as well as a great selection of books and music. Would recommend it to my friends and family as it offered great value, lovely furnishing and very welcoming. A true home away from home.

My husband and I have rented apartments in Europe for our annual vacations for the past 20 years, including a previous visit to Venice. This apartment ranks as one of the most beautiful, well-located, and nicely furnished. Every amenity is provided including everything you need to cook wonderful meals. There is a great fish vendor on the Fondamenta Cannareggio most mornings and plenty of fruit and vegetable stands nearby. The shopkeepers in the area are welcoming and helpful. It is a short walk to the train station, yet the apartment location is in a quiet residential neighborhood away from the tourists. You can access all the sights easily, then come home to a relaxing oasis. I highly recommend this apartment to anyone who wants to experience what it really is like to live in Venice!

"I stayed here with my partner and partner's parents for a week at the end of July 2009. We all fell in love with the apartment and its neighbourhood. The place has everything you need in a practical way to live and feel comfortably at home. On top of this it has great views across a canal and the surrounding neighbourhood. It is located away from the bustling tourist meccas which give a sense of peace and genuine Venetian charm. it is however convenient by Vaporetto or on foot to all the great attactions of this city and the local neighbourhood has some great places to have a meal or an evening drink by a canal. I highly recommend this place for a charming and value for money Venetian experience."

Just a note to thank you for the week in your beautiful Venice apartment - it was simply wonderful! I am sitting here back at home in rainy, cold and grey England downloading my photographs and wishing already we were back on the fabulous little balcony overlooking the canal. Everything was so wonderful, Mrs. P. was delightful and so welcoming - the apartment had everything we could possible need and the antique furniture and lovely decoration made it a perfect place in which to celebrate my special birthday - it was everything we had hoped it would be and more! We loved exploring the little streets and canals around us and enjoyed being part of the Venetian community for a short while. We would walk to the supermarket in the morning to get our supplies (the little shopping basket on wheels was perfect!) - we found a bakers shop for our bread and croissants and my husband delighted in the small cake shop where he would buy a different cake for us to try every day! We loved to watch all the comings and goings of the little boats with their families going up and down the canal below every day - so much better than being surrounded by all the tourists - we were able to get a true feel for the way of life of the local people. We very much hope to return again soon - many thanks once again.

Our first time using VRBO, and we couldn't have had a better experience! Carmen was great with communicating prior to our trip, and flexible to our arrival time from the cruise ship. We instantly fell in love with the neighborhood and the condo itself - so much better than a hotel, and part of a peaceful neighborhood. After the hustle and bustle of busy Venice, coming "home" each day to this property was one of the best parts of our trip. It was close enough to walk to all the sites, but far enough to feel that we really got to be a part of Venice as a resident and not just a tourist. The property was clean, well maintained, and comfortable. Our family of 3 were a perfect fit, and we loved the morning walks to get fresh fruit and bakery items - coming back to the condo to enjoy them on the balcony overlooking the canal. I've never done a review before (and it took me a year to finally do it!) but the great memories are still with us, and I would highly recommend this property. We can't wait to come back to Venice, and would definitely stay here again.

We've been doing VRBO Rentals for the past five years and Carmen's place in Venice was one of the very best!! We loved it. The neighborhood, the view, the furnishings and everything about it was superb. Seldom do we stay in a place where the furnishings, art, library of reference books and every possible convenience are anywhere near what Carmen has provided. It is so close to everything. We were astonished to feel, within a few days, that is was home to us! Way to go Carmen. You get first prize!

Excellent, spacious and relaxing apartment in a lovely and peaceful location. Very nice to have 3 separate balconies, one overlooking the canal, and two smaller ones at the back of the apartment overlooking nicely painted houses. We were told by Carmen that we needed to be quiet after 11:00pm to avoid upsetting the neighbour on the floor below, but this was not a problem for us. Agree with all the comments from previous guests. Highly recommended homely apartment.

"Having booked this apartment for 3 months we were a little nervous on arrival. Would we like it? Well, from the minute we walked in the door, we felt at home. It is a sunny and comfortable place to stay. The location is excellent-there are great bars, cafes and restaurants very close by. It is close to the fruit, vegetable and fish markets and has a well stocked and friendly local deli and butcher. There's even a smll supermarket within 5 minutes. You can easily walk all over Venice from here. The vaparetto stop is just around the corner and it is a ten minute walk to the station which is handy for arriving and the saddest of departures. Because it faces south, it has a lovely warm character-the sun shines all day in winter and we even used the front balcony for a glass of wine in December!! The furnishings are comfortable, elegant but at the same time homely. The main bedroom is very spacious and the bed is big and terrific, lovely linen provided. The kitchen and bathroom are modern and functional and have everything you need. Fondamenta Batello is a quiet and attractive 'street'. We hardly saw any tourists there, because it is where the Venetians live. Its only five minutes off the main streets but it has very much a local feel. The small apartment block is also very quiet and the neighbours are friendly and welcoming. Our favourite bar was Bar Timon on Fondamenta Ormisini, and La Cantina on Strada Nuova. Lovely food at Marisa's on Canareggio and Stella Anise not far away. After 3 months in Ca Mallo, we were heartbroken to leave. Carmen the owner is always helpful, friendly and willing to give local advice. We couldn't recommend this apartment too strongly. We want to live there!!

Carmen and Mauro's fabulous apartment was a welcome oasis for me for two weeks in September 2007. The apartment is in a very quiet, non-touristy neighborhood and gives a taste of the "real Venice" rather than the typical tourist-overrun neighborhoods such as San Marcos, etc. I you want a delightful home away from home experience, I highly recommend this home for your stay! If you need to get to the film festival or other event that is a ways away, I would recommend something on Lido or closer to the event, unless you don't mind a leisurely hour commute back and forth. But if you are interested in enjoying the real Venice and having a great central location from which to go to Murano and the other key islands, while avoiding the crowds, this is the place to be!

This tastefully furnished and sunny appartment has everything that makes you feel at home in Venice and part of Venetian life. We have stayed there twice and hope to return to this dreamhouse. It is situated on a quiet, dreamy canal but only a few minutes from the hustle and bustle of the city, a short walk to the Rialto Bridge and San Marco Square. But Canareggio itself, the quarter of the city where the appartment is situated, is much more authentic. This part is the old Jewish ghetto and has a beautiful atmosphere. Here you find the real Venice; you will not meet many tourists along these canals. Enjoy a cappuccino on the terrace of the Bar del Ponte next to the Ponte delle Gulie and watch the Venetians stroll by. The appartment itself is comfortable and beautifully furnished. You will find chandeliers from Murano, antique furniture and lots of books about Venice. The livingroom opens to a sunny balcony overlooking the canal where we used to enjoy our breakfast. And the lady who welcomed us is very sweet. We strongly recommend this appartment; we had been in Venice before, staying in a hotel. But in this appartment we did not feel like a tourist, but like a local. It made the experience one not to forget.
