If you are looking for a place close to town and on a lake as well, this is the place! Whether it's for fishing, great swimming, bonfires, badminton games, or just to relax, come check us out! We are located on Portage Lake, between Chassell and Houghton.
Please ask us about our other 1BR and 2BR units available as well. I will only fill in the calendar as full if every unit is reserved for that time. Also, we provide linens, but please bring towels if not flying, thank you! There is also now a Pet Fee of $10/nt per pet.

- Walking/biking trail, potential snowmobile trail this winter. Badminton/volleyball net, deck and fire pit on the water, two docks to tie up boats, sandy bottom! Great fishing lake. We also have a new fish cleaning house!

- 4 mi to Houghton shopping, or 3 mi to small shops in Chassell. Portage Lake Golf Course approx 2 mi, Bike/kayak rentals in Houghton, Mt Ripley downhill skiing approx 5 mi, a new bowling alley/arcade/go-karts/mini-golf/bar and grill approx 6 mi, lots of historical/natural site seeing all around!
Rate Details (In US Dollars)
During July and the first half of August, we do weekly only, Saturday to Saturday.
We accept Check or Cash.
We require a deposit of $100 per 1 BR unit, per week, $200 for our 2 BR units.
Unit #7 .. $75/night (2 night minimum) .. $450/week (plus 6% sales tax).
We also take PayPal through our full website.
Pet Fee: $10 per night per pet.

Why the Owner Chose Houghton
I (Tricia) rented at Northwoods while attending MTU, so I naturally had a liking to the property. I had gone into Real Estate when Northwoods had come up for sale. We wanted to be on the water and knew this would be a great opportunity to do that, for we also reside on the property.
The Unique Benefits at this Cabin
Portage Lake is a great recreational lake, including great sandy bottom for fantastic swimming. There is a biking/walking trail that runs right through the property so it's great for exercise or just a stroll along the water. There are other cabin rentals nearby, so its easy for people to visit other friends and family members that may be spread out. We are constantly working on adding gardens, so it's fun to watch those take shape.

Chris Kirkish was born and raised in Houghton, MI, where his family still resides, for they own a family furniture store called Kirkish Furniture. Tricia went to MTU for Geological Engineering, met Chris, and has now been here for 18 yrs! They both love the area for its many lakes, waterfalls, and friendly people.

My husband, daughter and I t hroughly enjoyed our stay - the cabin was clean and airy. The owners are lovely people who were available either by phone or by knocking on the door. Very peaceful and quiet. Loved it. Would definately book again when we are in the area
