1840 Pa Farmhouse/Cottage on 83 Acres W/ Inground Pool
- Minimum stay:3-4 nights
- Internet:No
- Pets allowed:Yes
- Wheel chair accessible:No
We invite you to stay in our comfortably and tastefully decorated 1840 four-bedroom farmhouse and cozy country cottage with fireplace and loft nestled in the middle of 83 acres of rolling Pennsylvania countryside. The Pennsylvania farmhouse is a simple log frame structure with white German siding with two front doors, typical architecture for the mid-1800's. The cottage has a large central stone fireplace (currently not functional) and was used as a smokehouse and summer kitchen in the late 19th & early 20th centuries.
Situated in beautiful Adams County, we are located approximately three miles from the historic colonial town of East Berlin, PA (population: 1,400), founded by Pennsylvania Germans in 1764 and placed on the National Register of Historic Places in 1985.
Property Description and Location: The property has a beautiful in-ground pool, Pennsylvania bank barn, 3-car garage, lovely views, and privacy and is an excellent base for relaxation and exploration of nearby Gettysburg, Lancaster's PA Dutch Country, Hershey, Baltimore, Philadelphia, Washington DC, and New York. World-wide travelers will find many French and European touches. We also have lots of original art and handmade pottery in both the farmhouse and cottage.
Historical: Our farmhouse has two plaques indicating registration as a Civil War building (having been built prior to the Civil War of 1863) and has received recognition from Historic Gettysburg-Adams County, Inc. as a home restored to its original 1840's era.
Sleeping Accomodations: The rental of this property includes both the Farmhouse and the Cottage:
Farmhouse (sleeps up to 8): There are four bedrooms on the second floor of the farmhouse: three with a double bed and one with two single beds. All are furnished with antique dressers, desks, and lovely bed linens.
Cottage (sleeps 2-4): There is one loft-style bedroom with double bed on the second floor and a comfortable pull-out double sofa bed in the living room.
In addition, we also have a Writer's Studio with two single beds, which can be used, if needed, at a cost of $75/night.

Much more beautiful than the pictures show. Every year several of my family get together for a weekend to get together for a little sight seeing, shopping and fellowship. At our Fall/Winter get away, we had discussed going to Lancaster and Gettysburg. I found the property in Jan., but did not act on getting arrangements made until many "help me" calls to Barbara at the end of March. She was so helpful and kind in every way, even down to sending me directions. From the time we drove in the lane we felt like we were home. The grounds are beautiful, the house and cottage comfortable, just like being at home. The house has everything you will need, and the scenery will melt the stress away. The remarks after we all got back home were the same, wishing we had spent more time at the farm.Did you find this review helpful? Yes | No Helpful votes: 3/3

This was our second time staying at this vintage farmhouse and, once again, we had a fantastic time. Although the house is full of historical charm, it is also well-maintained with modern amenities (washer, dryer, flatscreen TV, cable) that helped make our stay comfortable. We enjoyed cooking dinner in the fully equiped kitchen and relaxing afterwards in the adirondack chairs with a glass of wine. The owners even left a basket of Pennsylvania goodies and coffee! We will definitely be coming again and would recommend this property to anyone. It's the perfect fall destination as it is convenenient to several pumpkin patches and the National Apple Harvest Festival.Did you find this review helpful? Yes | No Helpful votes: 6/6

Our extended family, including grandparents, numerous adults, and children from teens to age 5 stayed for four nights in June. It is a beautiful property with something for everyone. The pictures don't even do it justice. The variety of rooms is great for allowing a large group to spread out. The pool was a hit every night for the entire family. We loved grilling outdoors and family dinners at the outdoor picnic tables. I wish we had a few more days to just sit and enjoy the porch. Easy access to Gettysburg and the Amish country make good day trips. Owners make you feel like you are staying at a family home. I would highly recommend this farmhouse without hesitation.Recommended for: Sightseeing, girls getaway, families with young children, adventure seekers, age 55+, families with teenagers.

Staying at the Anthony Farm was an extrordinary experience. I got to sleep in a house that was standing when the battle in Gettysburg was actually happening a few miles away. It was an opportunity to live in an historic home for a few days. The modern things were in place, bathrooms, laundry, pool, and a kitchen that was clean and updated without destroying the farmhouse ambiance. We were able to take advantage of the closeness of Hershey Park, Gettysburg, and even Harrisburg. We also enjoyed the solitude of long walks, sitting by the pool, a campfire at night and mugs of coffee on the front porch at dawn. If you love history, or peace and quiet, or having your family reunion without intrusion from other groups, I highly recommend visiting the Anthony Farm in East Berlin, PA. Every one of us, from age 7 to 62, had a fantastic time!Recommended for: Girls getaway, families with young children, romantic getaway, age 55+, families with teenagers.

I just returned from a week long vacation with family. The property is gorgeous and well maintained. The house has everything you could possibly need. The house is beautiful and tastefully decorated. My favorite place on the property was the pool house. It was a great place to read and relax. The owners are so friendly and accomodating. The property is a short drive to Gettysburg. I hope to visit next summer. To sum up: If you are planning on visiting this area please consider staying here. You will not be disappointed.Recommended for: Sightseeing, families with young children, age 55+, families with teenagers.

My family and I were looking for peace and quiet for our summer vacation. And we found what we wanted in this wonderful, bucolic setting. How big is 83 acres? BIG! Big enough to feel like you're the only people for miles around. The only things to keep us company were the fields of corn and the silence, which is all the company we desired. The house itself is a rambling gem of antiquated charm, complete with wavy, time-worn, wide plank floors and all of the appropriate touches that make a house a home. And since the temperature hit 90 degrees every day, the in-ground pool was a welcome, cooling respite. But this farm, first and foremost, is about solitude, and I can't pay this property, and the owners who tend to it with loving care, a higher compliment than this: for one week in July 2010, we found our field of dreams.Recommended for: Sightseeing, girls getaway, families with young children, romantic getaway, age 55+, families with teenagers.

Our family spent a week here in July 2009 and we are so glad we did. This property is outstanding! Barbara has paid close attention to detail in her decorating style. The farmhouse and little cottage are just adorable. We loved the swimming pool. This place is definately geared toward the family, but would also be suitable for a bunch of couples. There is so much to see and do in Gettysburg, which is only about a 15 minute drive away. We carved out a day to see Washington D.C. which was only 1 hour and 40 minutes away (to the subway). Everything you need for a week of family fun is right here! Just pack your bags. You won't regret this one.Recommended for: Sightseeing, tourists without a car, families with young children, adventure seekers, families with teenagers.

Our family loved this homestead! It was about 1.25 hours away from Dutch Country, but this was fine with us and worth the distance. Clean and friendly owners who put their heart and soul into the farmhouse. We are reserved for next year.Recommended for: Sightseeing, families with young children.
