Beautiful condo in a stunning setting! Immaculate grounds, gorgeous landscaping, pools for the very young and very young at heart (my mom is 97 and thoroughly enjoyed pool sitting). Winding paths along the beach front and easy access down to the beach. If I sound like a PR person for the Honua Kai resort I assure you I'm not......just a very happy vacationer. The owners, Kristine and Louis are wonderful, generous with ideas, and always available. The condo is equipped with everything you need for poolside and beach. My mom and I stayed at the Trinhs, while my son, son-in-law, daughter, grandson and granddaughter stayed in a condo two floors below. A memorable trip with four generations represented. OUR FAVORITES: TERALANI SAILING ADVENTURES FOR WHALE WATCHING. We were incredibly lucky to be in the middle of a WHALE "COMPETITION” when we took the tour Wednesday morning. At first, it was very, very quiet, and we were afraid we were only going to see a whale or two at a distance. Suddenly a female whale arrived with three males in pursuit. So, while she hovered near, and under the catamaran, the males battled it out right in front of us. It was the most awesome sight I have ever seen. They are so huge yet so gracefull, even in battle. One male will literally throw his body over the head of his competitor to drive him away. So, we saw whales really "up close and personal". Unforgettable experience. Unfortunately, our time was up (two hours) but the crew couldn’t quite motor through the whales until they had given the boat enough distance to maneuver through them without endangering or disturbing them. We had a 2+++ hour tour! PIIHOLA RANCH FOR ZIP LINE. Don't skimp. Take the five line package. It's worth every penny but be prepared for strenuous climbs up to the top of the towers. (I'm 71 but in good shape.....c'mon, you can do it) .Views from the top of the mountain are incredible. Took both video and still. SNORKELING was great both at Kapalua and right off the beach in front of the Honua Kai. WHALER'S VILLAGE for shopping, along with LAHAINA for galleries and shops restaurants. DUKE'S, right in front of the condo had the best pina coladas in addtion to excellent food. So many good places to eat, super little market in the condo lobby area, and a supermarket across the street. As Arnold would say, "I'll Be Baack"! ....and....thank you, Trinhs, for your beautiful condo.

We loved this place. The owner was very helpful and the unit was as advertised. It had everything one could want to make a vacation everything it should be. It was very clean and had all the amenities. We would definitely stay here again. I would recommend Mama's Fish House restaurant is a must. I would also recommend Mala's and Honu restaurants are also top notch. We would recommend the Teralani Whale watch and the Maui Downhill sunrise bike trip of Haleakala volcano. The Kaanapali golf course is a must if you like to play golf.
Owner response:Thank you, Roger and Lorrie, for staying with us and for taking such great care of the condo. Three weeks on Maui flies by so quickly, doesn't it? We're glad that you had so many great adventures, even more than we've ever had! We look forward to your stay with us again.

We recently stayed in the Trinh's beautiful condo and had the most amazing time! Louis and Kristine are fantastic to deal with and have really created a perfect home away from home. The Honua Kai is such a lovely resort and our boys (aged 9 and 6) had so much fun in the various pools. We saw whales off of our deck every day as well as a pod of playful spinner dolphins! Whale watching off of Whaler's Village was well worth the time and money and the concierge at the resort was very helpful. Royal Hawaiian Surf Academy was excellent and all 4 of us were able to get up surfing! I can't say enough about this unit and our wonderful adventures during our stay. We will definitely be back to this unit and really appreciate the Trinhs going the extra mile to ensure their guests have an amazing vacation.

We recently stayed at this Honua Kai unit, and we were not disappointed! It looked just like the pictures and the view of the ocean was great (we spent a lot of time drinking Mai Tais from Duke's on the lanai)! The unit was very quiet and clean upon arrival and even had some nice extra touches such as flowers placed around the room and literature about Maui. The resort is wonderful- modern decor, great location, friendly staff, beautifully landscaped, good restaurants on location (Duke's and Aina Gourmet Market for our morning smoothie and lattes), large pools, and kid friendly. A little tip- the snorkeling right in front of Honua Kai/Duke's was fantastic. You can rent snorkel gear for cheap near the pool. The drop off is great and we saw many colorful fish, coral, and even an eel... very cool! Louis and Kristine the owners made sure we felt at home since we were traveling with a small child. They left us plastic dinnerware, a booster seat, DVD's, pack and play, air mattress, beach chairs, and many other useful items so that we did not need to stress about packing them. Louis and Kristine were very responsive once we booked their unit and we would definitely stay at this condo unit again because we had a wonderful experience!
Owner response:Thank you, Kevin, for your kind words. We're glad that you had such a memorable family reunion and wedding at Honua Kai. Your kids will always remember this trip!

This was a beautiful condo and resort. The location was great, as was Duke's restaurant and the amazing beach walkway. It was perfect for morning and evening strolls. My children loved the pools. I cannot thank the Trinh's enough for their assistance and advice. They were so much better than any travel agent.
Owner response:Thanks for your kind words, Mary. We know your kids will fondly remember visiting Maui and Kauai, especially now that they are teenagers. Have a safe trip home and please keep in touch.

Being our second trip to the Hawaiian Islands, and our first family vacation with our 4 year old son, the Honua Kai proved to be a great family resort with a touch of luxury in a great location on Kaanapali beach. The condo was exactly what we expected: brand new, well kept with all amenities of a home. The washer and drier in the room were a plus from the hotel amenities, the well equipped kitchen and the grills outside allowed for great grilling with a beautiful sunset, and the separate bedroom allowed us to keep our son on a sleeping schedule while we enjoyed the privacy of having a separate room with a large lanai. The resort grounds are welled manicured, the variety of pools for adults and children provided excellent entertainment for our son as well as a place to relax under the sun when we wanted to take a break from the sandy beach. The Duke restaurant on the property offered pool side service, and was a great alternative for breakfast, lunch and dinner and its location allowed beautiful sunsets. The Hula Pie, and Ahi tuna were excellent! The Aina gourmet market located inside the resort made it easy for quick purchases of fresh snacks and coffee, and other personal last minute items. The resort in general is part of a great master planned community on North Kaanapali beach and it is still walking distance to the Black Rock and Whalers Village but yet secluded from all the touristic traffic. The side walk that connects this resort all the way back to the Whalers Village allowed me to enjoy my morning jogs with a beautiful beach to my side. Thanks again to Louis and his family for all the great recommendations on sight seeing and entertainment activities and for allowing us to share their home in Maui! Aloha and Mahalo!
Owner response:Thank you, Corina, for sending us those wonderful pictures of your beautiful family. We're glad that you had such a great time on Maui, a well-deserved graduation present and finally some time off for your husband. Honua Kai's pools are a great place to bond and relax with your son. Our housekeeper was also very appreciative of your kindness and cleanliness. Please keep in touch when your husband is ready to update the Kahului Airport :)

Thank You Louis and Kristine for sharing your gorgeous condo with me and my family. It was everything you said and what the pictures showed could not have been more perfect. Location is great and the beach was splendid. Walking trails in the morning and the beach made it a nice way to wake up in the morning. I would recommend your condo to anyone planning on staying in Maui. Thanks for all your helpful tips, checking to see if we need anything and all our hospitality. Looking forward to staying again when we make it back to Maui! Randy & Susan K

The Trinh's Honua Kai condo was the perfect place to spend our Hawaiian honeymoon. The condo was absolutely beautiful and was the perfect condo for us! It was so clean and had everything in it that we needed for our stay. We even walked in to fresh flowers scattered throughout the condo which was such a wonderful surprise. The view was amazing and we really took advantage of the huge lanai while drinking our morning coffee. The resort itself was awesome! It had so much to offer that we honestly didn't have to ever leave the grounds but figured we should do some exploring since we were in beautiful Maui! The pools are awesome and kept us busy and the beach right in front of the resort is amazing. We snorkeled right out and that was one of our best experiences from the trip. Duke's restaurant that is right in the resort had amazing food and great drinks too! We loved Duke's so much that we ate there a few times! I am still amazed how awesome the Honua Kai is and what made our experience so wonderful, was dealing with the Trinh's! They couldn't have been more welcoming fromt the start. They provided us with such helpful information for the perfect places to visit while we were in Maui. They, truly, made our trip one of a kind. We will definitely be using their BEAUTIFUL condo again! We are hoping to get back to Maui in the very near future! Maui is an unbelievale place but our condo truly made our trip! We were so sad to leave and can't wait to get back to the Honua Kai! It is such a magical and unforgettable place! We recommend not only this resort but definitely this specific condo! Thank you again Louis and Kristine! We will be in touch for our next trip to Maui!
Owner response:Congratulations, Elizabeth and Michael! We're grateful to be a part of your Honeymoon, and Maui is a great place to celebrate. Our housekeeper was very excited and it was her idea to bring in fresh tropical flowers and champagne.

My wife and I rented the Trinh’s Honua Kai condo for our honeymoon from August 12th to August 20th 2010. It was our first time to Maui and we regret nothing about renting this condo. We were blown with away every aspect of the condo and resort. The Honua Kai is a first class resort with all the amenities of a 5 star hotel. The 4 pools (all the reviews I read said 3 pools but I counted 4) were never crowded and we never had a problem finding open lounge chairs. There is an on-site restaurant. Dukes Beach House was nice and they also provide the poolside service. I also enjoyed the water slide even though my wife said I was too old for it. The beach right in front of the Honua Kai is beautiful; although we spent most of our time by the pool. Great restaurants and shopping are just a short drive away. The Whalers Village is about a 30 minute brisk walk or a $10 cab ride. I suggest the latter; especially in the dark. The condo itself was immaculate with everything we needed and the bed was so comfortable. It had all the comforts of home; stainless steel appliances, washer, dryer, cable HD TV, Wi-Fi, stand-up shower, Jacuzzi, double sinks, pool and beach accessories. I would like to extend a special thank you to the Trinh’s for letting us rent their condo. There was an open line of communication through-out the rental process and while we were there. We can’t wait until we go back. Thank you.
Owner response:Thank you for sharing your Honeymoon with us at Honua Kai! Its nice getting to know you and are glad that you both had such a great time on Maui.

My friends & I just returned from a fabulous stay at the Trinhs' Honua Kai unit. We first stayed in another condo in South Maui and then moved to this condo in West Maui, and boy we were SO glad we did! I travel quite a bit, and this was by far the best rental experience I've had. Louis was super-responsive about any questions or concerns I had, both before and during our stay. They went out of their way to make our stay comfortable -- from providing helpful details on where to eat and getting around, to stocking the condo with everything we needed (coffeemaker, blender, ipod speaker, wi-fi, boogie boards). I'm a fastidious researcher when it comes to travel planning, scouring all the travel websites/reviews, and after wandering the boardwalk to the other properties in this area, I knew that Honua Kai was the best choice. It had nicer, newer, and well-maintained facilities (and not of the cheesy faux-Hawaiian kind either). And all the staff we encountered gave us 5-star treatment. Also, the Viking BBQ grills near the pool were a bonus in terms of saving money on food. This unit is stocked with more than enough good kitchenware to prep a nice meal, bring it down to grill, and dine elegantly at the pretty open-air lobby tables. Also, Black Rock was very close by & was great for snorkeling (& rock diving/cliff jumping too if you're into that!). We even got to swim with some enormous turtles!

I've been visiting the islands for almost 20 years and was excited to see a new resort built on the north end of Kaanapali beach! The resort is quiet, family friendly, and provides many of the amenities that the expensive resorts do in the south Kaanapali Beach area. The pool area, beachwalk, and grounds are beautifully landscaped with easy access to the beachfront. The condo was beautiful with great views of the ocean and West Maui mountains. The Trinh's have equipped the condo very well and even have boogie boards, beach chairs, and other "beach Items" for you to use while in Maui. They also made sure that we had everything we needed upon arrival. I would recommend this property to anyone interested in staying in the Kaanapali. I've stayed at several other properties in the area and this is by far one of the best. Renting from the Trinh's was a great experience and would do so again for future visits.

We decided to stay at the Trinh's Honua Kai unit #514 for our Honeymoon (the first week of December 09)and we are SO glad that we did!! The resort was great! It was beautiful, quiet, somewhat secluded, but still very close to everything. All of the staff there were very nice and helpful. It was the perfect honeymoon spot! Even more impressive was the room. It was beautiful, spacious (for the 2 of us), had amazing views, a bigger bathroom than my master at home and that bed...it seriously, felt like a cloud!! All of the little touches just really made us feel welcome. The Trinh's really are the nicest people. They really went out of their way to work with us and to ensure that we had a great time. You will NOT find a better deal on a nicer room. (especially one that is so spacious and has a washer and dryer!) I literally can not think of anything that could have made it better. (Except for staying longer! :) We would like to thank the Trinh's for helping to make our Honeymoon everything we hoped it would be!

I highly recommend this property. The whole experience was first-class. The condo is perfect and well stocked for kitchen, beach, bath, etc. The facility itself is high-end. The staff couldn't be more accommodating. The grounds, views, pools, Duke's restaurant, couldn't be better and it is not crowded. The location is near everything but you can get away from the hustle and bustle back at your special piece of paradise. You will not be dissapointed if you stay here.

This was my first trip to Maui, HI, and I have to say this was the best vacation of my life, I’m worried what will I do to top 2010. I had already booked my plane tickets, yet I had no where to stay. I search every hotel in Maui, and wasn’t impressed with any of them, they looked like they were stuck in the 70’s or was just too over priced for my budget. Then when all hope was gone I found this gem called Honua Kai, it was everything that I had wanted, the price was right, it was updated, it was right on the beach, the best beach in Maui Kaanapali Beach. Walking distance or short drive to any and everything. The staff was very helpful, it was their duty to make sure that my friends and I were comfortable and enjoying our stay at Honua Kai. But to top it all off, the owners of suite 514 was unbelievable, the many correspondences that was sent before we arrived in Maui, was very helpful to say the least. The many suggestions was very much appreciated, and believe me we tried them ALL.

My husband and I stayed in this condo for two weeks from Oct 26 to Nov 9th. We were blown away with the beauty of this condo and the resort. Everything we needed was provided. The condo is very comfortable and the bed was like sleeping on a cloud. I had the best sleep while I was there. The views were great and everyone at the resort was very very friendly. The beach at the resort is nice and you can easily snorkel from the beach. There is a beach walkway that goes from the resort past Black Rock to Whalers Village we enjoyed walking that path in the early morning. Louis was great to work with in renting their condo. He always answered any questions we had and made sure our vacation was wonderful. Many thanks to Louis and his family for making this one of the best trips we've taken. The only bad thing was having to pack up and leave. On our flight back home we were trying to decide just when we will be able to return, and when we do there is no other place we want to stay.

Honua Kai is the perfect place to stay in Maui. Right on the beach and absolutely georgous condo. Louis and Christine have everything you would need for your stay including guide books (no need to purchase any) and your personal tour cd for the Road to Hana. A perfect location to go anywhere in Maui. The Trinh's are perfect hosts. Their condo is a "must stay" 5 star when you visit Maui.

My husband and I recently celebrated our honeymoon in Maui and stayed in this condo for 10 days. Our experience was nothing short of amazing. THE OWNERS: For starters, the owners, Louis and Kristine, have been an absolute joy to work with. We have spoken both over the phone and via email; they made us feel very comfortable in booking our stay with them. They have been so warm, welcoming, and generous ever since our very first contact over 7 months ago. That warmth has continued through the months, through our stay in their condo, and beyond. They emailed many pictures of the condo itself, as well as the grounds, amenities, and various sights around Kaanapali. They also gave us numerous recommendations for activities and restaurants around Maui, and welcomed us to their condo with a bouquet of beautiful tropical flowers and a gift basket filled with delicious local fruits and treats. THE LOCATION: The location of this condo is ideal. The condo itself is great; super cozy bed, comfortable furniture, and a full kitchen with all the necessary cooking utensils. The resort is brand new, has everything you need, and is right on the board walk and beach. The beach in front of the resort is perfect for swimming, sunning, and snorkeling. The resort is currently under construction and will likely be even more amazing once construction is completed. The benefit of staying in a partially full resort is that it was very quiet; full of smiling faces, welcoming people, and good service, yet relaxing and quiet at the same time. We often had the pool and gym to ourselves. We very much enjoyed staying in such a relaxing resort on the quiet end of Kaanapali, where we were far enough yet close enough to enjoy the faster pace “hub” of Kannapali, Black Rock, and Lahaina. THE EXPERIENCE: Absolutely perfect!

Our family just returned from our first visit to Maui and stayed at the beautiful Honua Kai resort. We were very impressed with the luxurious resort and our room. It was more beautiful than the pictures could describe. Everything is new and immaculate. Everyone on the staff including the concierge, Kimmy, went out of there way to be sure everything was perfect. The owners, Louis and his wife, were outstanding in giving us tips on things to do and activities in the area and making sure we would enjoy our visit. We snorkeled at Kapalua and Black Rock, ziplined at Piiholo Ranch, drove to Hana and beyond to the seven sacred pools of O'he, drove up to the Volcano summitt, took a helicopter tour, did the Feast at LeLe luau which we felt was more intimate and romantic than most luaus, watched windsurfers, visited the I'ao Valley, and explored several small towns on the island. The resort is conveniently located to so many attractions and to the busy town of Lahaina where we enjoyed dining out and shopping. Whalers village is also very close with many shops and things to do. In our opinion, the Kaanapalli area is the most beautiful area on the island and I wouldn't want to stay anywhere else. Restaurants our family especially liked were The Lahaina Fish Co, The Plantation House restaurant, the Hula Grill, the Haliimaile General Store, BJ's Chicago Pizza, and Bubba Gumps. If we are fortunate enough to return to Maui this is where we plan to stay again.

We just returned from our trip to Maui (6/12). The weather was perfect, a little windy the first day but subsided as our trip progressed. Upon arriving at the property we were quite pleased at how elegant the hotel appears. We had a little glitch with the parking situation but after contacting the owner he quickly cleared this up for us. We arrived on Saturday evening late and enjoyed the very comfy bed! We were a little surprised that the construction next door started up on Monday morning at 7:00 but when we closed the lanai door it wasn't too bad. The hotel is situated close to the beach (nice and uncrowded). We did make our way down south a bit as we were told the winds were a little less severe (near Whaler's Village). The market downstairs was a nice feature, although the day we were leaving the person did not show up for work and we missed our much needed Americano! All in all the condo is very nice, well equipped and very new and clean! Once the 2nd phase is complete it will be even nicer as the restaurant/bar would be a nice addition as well as the water slide for the kids and the spa.

We just returned from our 25th anniversay trip and my husband's 50th bday. The resort is awesome! It was very quiet and had the beach almost to ourselves everyday. Unit was like new and the bed is the most comfortable bed we have ever slept in (including our one at home). Condo had everything we could possibly need and more. We strongly recommend renting from the owners as they are very professional and serious about making your stay the best experience possible. As far as activities....recommend Air Maui Helo tour strongly. We went to Mama's Fish House and that may be a bit overrated. We are from New Orleans so hard to judge restaurants elsewehere. Beach in South Maui was nice too. There was nothing that we did not like about Maui except the long trip to get there and back. Again....highly recommend resort and this unit. Perfect location, nice, and immaculate. Thanks, guys!

Our family stayed in this beautiful condo for 12 days. It is quality, well kept with everything you'll need. The view from the Lanai is amazing! We were fortunate to be there during the whale season, so we experienced them right from the Lanai everyday. The grounds are beautiful, with a beautiful pool and 2 hot tubs. We boogie boarded on the beach in front, it was amazing. The coffee shop downstairs serves great food and drinks! The boardwalk takes you all the way to Whalers village, so if you are up for a nice walk/jog everyday, it is about an hour there and back. Kaanapali is our favorite location on Maui, and this complex is sure to be the hot spot once the whole facility is complete. It is very family oriented. We've stayed in Kaanapali on many occasions, and it is by far the nicest condos in the Kaanapali area. The owners are fantastic and super helpful. Aloha!

Just returned from our fabulous vacation in Maui. This condo is superior by far to any we have stayed in. The pictures show how beautiful the interior is and the bed is so comfortable. The bathroom is much larger than can be shown and having a washer and dryer is priceless! The location of Honua Kai is perfect, between Lahaina and Kapalua on the beautiful and pristine Ka'anapoli Beach. We saw whales everyday from our balcony. The resort is stunning with a wonderful grocery/deli with all kinds of organic food. We loved being able to make coffee and have breakfast while watching the whales. Louis Trinh was most helpful and provided excellent advice for our trip. We will return and stay here again. Thank you Louis!

Honua Kai is the newest resort in the Ka-anapali region. It's a fantastic location. From the balcony we could see whales jumping every morning. The accommodations are brand new. The kitchen is fantastic, the bathroom is very large with a shower and tub. Having the store downstairs is really handy - and the quality of the food is superb. My daughters loved getting gelato and pastries on a daily basis. The washer/dryer were a godsend. The resort is not overcrowded as some of the others in the area are. The beach is beautiful - and, although my wife argues otherwise, I know I could snorkel out to the whales. Beautiful sunsets, rainbows, and perfect weather. We felt that we got 5-star accommodations at a very affordable price. We looked at all the other resorts, both online and with VRBO. This is the best. We plan to stay here again on our future trips to Maui. Would highly recommend.
