This houseboat is a unique vacation opportunity. As described, it is well furnished, but needs a thorough uncluttering and cleaning. There was a dusty odor upon entering, and after closer examination, we found dust and cobwebs throughout. The owner's excuse was that although she lives there, she is in the process of moving to a different houseboat. Further, there was no space for our own personal items. Although we were able to shove aside the owner's hanging clothes in the closet to make room for some of ours, we had to leave our non-hanging clothing in our suitcases because there was no bureau or anywhere to unpack them. In our bathroom, I emptied out and cleaned a drawer in the vanity that was full of empty cotton swab containers, pill bottles, brushes and combs, hair, dust, and insect remains. I have been in contact with the owner regarding these issues, and she states that all have been corrected. I hope that is true for future renters' sake. That being said, the houseboat has responsive owners, is in a wonderful location, is charming and spacious and has lots of potential, if given a thorough top-to-bottom cleaning.Recommended for: Sightseeing, girls getaway, romantic getaway.
Owner response: Of course we were very disappointed to get a less-than-positive review, as we have always had glowing feedback. However, I do value the comments of this most gracious and well-meaning guest who overall acknowledged their party enjoyed the place very much. I have taken the comments seriously and have had a very strong conversation with our cleaning crew (whom I was unable to supervise on the day of this guest's arrival). I have incorporated many of the suggestions mentioned and sincerely hope to have only very satisfied guests. I might also mention that we do live in the houseboat when not renting it out (as do most of my houseboat neighbors), so sharing closets and dressers is many times a necessity. I thank you for reading this response and would hope to be able to share our beautiful houseboat with you in the future.
