South Seas Cottage, Close to Beach
- Minimum stay:2 nights
- Internet:Yes
- Pets allowed:No
- Wheel chair accessible:No
Our 'South Seas Cottage' is located approximately one block from world famous Kailua Beach. Our new tastefully decorated 'Island Style' cottage is surrounded by mature tropical landscaping. Step through the French doors and walk on bamboo style floors and fine Asian slate. Island furnishings from the South Pacific and Asia will comfort you during your stay.
Kailua Beach was ranked #1 in the United States by Steven Leatherman, a.k.a. Dr. Beach, in 1998. Our three mile stretch of fine white sand beach is unsurpassed. Kailua Beach is the perfect setting for relaxing, swimming, snorkeling, surfing, windsurfing, boogie boarding and just doing nothing.
Our cottage is just a short walk to the beach, restaurants, shopping, theaters and much more. Our gated island cottage is a one bedroom with a queen size bed. The bedroom can be opened up for more spacious living (as shown in the picture) or closed off from the living area by louvre doors. Our luxurious bathroom includes a large corner tub with shower surrounded by Asian slate floors. French doors open to tropical gardens and a 'palapa style' porch setting, perfect for a BBQ.
We look forward to sharing our island home with you and hope that your stay is filled with the 'aloha spirit', hospitality and friendship.
Aloha!

Stayed at Gina & Karl's cottage mid-April. It was spiffy clean, nicely decorated and well stocked (shampoo/soap; dishwashing liquid, laundry detergent plus some fruit) - which was great! Gina warmly welcomed us upon arrival. Location was easy to look for and the owners are easy to talk to. Would definitely recommend this cottage to anyone visiting the Kailua area. Thanks Gina!Recommended for: Sightseeing, adventure seekers, age 55+, romantic getaway, families with young children, girls getaway.

Don't tell too many people, but this is the best kept secret on Oahu! Gina and Karl provide you with your own private beach cottage to explore the island. There if you need them, but giving you total privacy at the same time. The pictures are spot on. What you see is exactly what you will get. Very comfortable and private. It does sit in a residential neighborhood, and there is street noise, but that just added to the realistic "at home" feel. If you close the louvered windows in the bedroom, run the fans, or at last resort, use the A/C unit, you will sleep great! A little tidbit, I happen to enjoy a firm mattress, so I was fine, but my wife found it just a bit too hard for here liking. She slept OK but could have been a little softer for her liking. Then again we were there to enjoy as much of the island as possible, so sleeping in wasn't a big deal. Beautiful beach is 5 minutes walking, at the max! Hop in the car and drive down to Lanakai beach, 7 minutes straight down the road. Great snorkeling! As good as Hanama Bay! Right down the road, but now crowds! What could be better? Close to everything! Downtown Kaillua has lots to offer. Shop at Whole Foods or the other shops at the mall. Safeway is within walking distance of the cottage. Dining you say? Have breakfast at Cinnamon's! Get malasadas for Agnes Portuguese Bakery! Have dinner at Buzz's! High end food and service while you are in shorts and flip flops (slippers). ! A must do!... And, the best kept dining secret off all. Go to the Willow Tree Korean BBQ, next to Safeway within walking distance. Davin and his family are the best! The food is awesome at very reasonable prices. There will be a line and an wait, but, come on! This is where to locals eat! Not because it's good, but GREAT!... Do yourself a favor get a hold of Gina and stay at the South Seas cottage! You will come back. We will!..Recommended for: Sightseeing, adventure seekers, age 55+, romantic getaway.

This bungalow was perfect to relax in Hawaii and was just 20 minutes drive from Honolulu & Waikiki. It was very clean and well furnished. The bathroom has a spa feel and the living room & dining area are comfortable and perfect for two. The property is only 4 minutes walk from a beautiful beach and there are boogie boards, masks, snorkels, etc for guests :). Also, the road is not particularly noisy at night ( no need to bring your earplugs ). The bed could use a softer mattress but, ultimately, we had a great stay. Also, the owners are nice and their property offers great value.Recommended for: Sightseeing, adventure seekers, romantic getaway.

The South Seas Cottage is the perfect alternative to the huge cookie cutter resorts Hawaii offers. The beach is a very short walk away. Kailua is a hidden gem. The owners covered every detail when they furnished the cottage. It offers a serene, and very special private getaway! We highly recommend this cottage to anyone who wants the feel of living in Hawaii as opposed to renting a hotel or condo. Thank you Gina, we'll be back.Recommended for: Sightseeing, age 55+, romantic getaway.

We had a great experience at the South Seas cottage. Gina and Karl were very flexible with our check-in and check-out times and we're very friendly. They are right there if you need anything, which we didn't. But the cottage is also very private. As some have mentioned, the tv had a lot of snow...not a deal breaker because we weren't in Hawaii to watch tv! Also, it is on a busy road, so you do hear traffic noise. With the ac unit on, we slept well. It is only a five minute walk to the wonderful beach! The kitchen is well-supplied and the small grill worked great! The cat and rabbit were friendly little critters and it was nice to have them around. It's right across the street from Pinky's, which had some decent food. All in all, it was a great place to stay and we would stay here again and recommend it to our friends.Recommended for: Sightseeing, age 55+, romantic getaway.

The previous reviews are all very accurate. The place was clean and well outfitted. As someone mentioned earlier, the TV is way outdated but we rarely watch it when we're back in the islands. The only negative was a bit of traffic noise off Kalaheo. We normally sleep with the windows open in Hawai'i, but you could hear some traffic noise, so we used the AC unit, which was very quiet.Recommended for: Sightseeing, age 55+, romantic getaway.

This little cottage was absolutely beautiful! Very tastefully decorated and upgraded with wood floors and tile tub/shower. Gina and Karl are wonderful hosts and have thought to provide everything but food. A home away from home only a short walk from Kailua beach. Very private even though right next to the owners residence. Many lush trees and garden keeps it private. Close to everything. Highly recommended and a great value! We will definitely return.Recommended for: Sightseeing, age 55+, romantic getaway.

This cottage has a lot of great features, Tub is huge, towels new, great privacy in a tropical setting, flowers and coconut and palm trees all around you, washer and dryer work great, a very quiet air conditioner in the bedroom, beautiful floors, and Karl and Gina are easy and friendly to work with. There is room for improvement. WIFI only works if you are outside, which means you have to move a chair to the middle of the yard, and sometimes its raining. Also the TV is an ancient 19 inch that has a lot of snow, the chairs you sit on to watch it are uncomfortable. The negative is not enough to not stay here, we stayed 2 weeks starting in August, and were glad we did.You can walk to the beach, it took us about 5 minutes. The bed is on the hard side, but others may like it that way. The dishes and furniture need a makeover, but I guess that adds to the rustic feel.Recommended for: Sightseeing, adventure seekers, tourists without a car, age 55+, girls getaway.

Mahalo, Gina & Karl for your generous hospitality...We thoroughly enjoyed our stay. Your cottage is in a wonderful location and is absolutely beautiful! The cottage is so well equipped with anything and everything you might need or want, we enjoyed being able to walk to the grocery store and the near by coffee house. We walked to the beach almost every morning to watch sunrise. We enjoyed playing in the surf and we would like to thank you again for letting us back into the cottage after we lost the keys in the ocean…we bought safety pins to help discourage it from happening again…we also left a couple in the drawer for our next visit. Mahalo & Aloha!Recommended for: Sightseeing, adventure seekers, age 55+, romantic getaway.
