Our cottage is located on the beautiful north shore of Maui 12 miles from the Kahului Airport. We have a 2-acre estate which is totally fenced in and sits on top of the hill with ocean views and the islands of Maui and Molokai on the horizon.
The cottage has a full kitchen, high speed wireless internet, washer-dryer, phone, TV/VCR, and sleeps 2-5 people depending on your wishes. There is a large master bedroom with a king size bed and a very comfortable foam futon couch in the living room. The other bedroom with a full size bed is on the front porch and has a separate entrance. This cottage is very private, clean and comfortable.
The property abounds with coconut, bananas, avocados, limes, grapefruit, papayas, lychee, mangoes, coffee, guava, lemons, and passion fruit. There is an acre and a half of open lawn to relax on or for children to enjoy.
Haiku is the old pineapple center of Maui, and they are still grown in nearby fields. There are many shops and and excellent restaurants close by.
There is usually a breeze blowing and the temperature gets down to 70 at night and up to around 80 in the daytime.

The cottage was exactly as described. Private and quiet. I went for morning walks up to the Hana Hwy and through the Memorial Gardens at 5:30/6:00 am and felt safe. Cottage was an hour from Lahania, 20-30 minutes from airport and Kahului, 5-10 minutes to Paia and Haiku where there is dining and a grocery store. Baked on Maui (a cafe) is a short walk up the road. You can get a head start on the Road to Hana and sunrise at Mt. Haleakala, relax at nearby Baldwin Beach or participate/watch the kite/wind/board surfing at Hookapia - both beaches on the Hana Hwy. The cottage had everything we needed: beach chairs, towels & mats, snorkel gear, sunscreen, even insect repellent, washer and dryer, coolers, and a freezer full of ice. King bed was comfy in a large bedroom with WI closet, a dresser and extra shelves for storage. Bathroom had all amenities with soft towels and a hairdryer. Kitchen had fridge, stove, microwave, toaster and coffee maker, and other small appliances, and all utensils and dishware that we needed. We ate breakfast there and dined out in afternoon. Condiments in the cupboard. A basket of wonderful apple bananas, avocado, and a lemon awaited our arrival along with a flower arrangements in living room and bedroom. The living room had a futon for my husband to stretch out, while I checked email and made reservations using the hi speed wireless internet. Outside, lawn chairs were for our use on the spacious lawn - pulling them into the shade as needed. A handy motion light comes on exactly as needed on the walkway during early morning treks or late night returns. Danielle and Gregg have beautiful trees, flowers, plants, and vegetables in their gardens (wonderful smelling orange blossoms!). She graciously gave me a tour and is excited to see the results of their hard work. Gregg has a collection of cars that my husband and I wanted to see, both of us (maybe him more than me) appreciating the inner working of the vehicles. Receiving a ride in the Devin SS and the Shelby Cobra was, well, WHEEEE! Great fun. We had a late departure flight and were able to have full use of the cottage for the day. As a result we had a relaxing full day, and then cleaning up and stretching out before heading to the airport. A great place to stay, away form all the resorts and crowds, waking up listening to the wind in the trees and the singing birds - through open windows. A great way to get to know the Island and the people. Aloha and Mahalo Gregg and Danielle.Recommended for: Age 55+, families with teenagers, girls getaway, adventure seekers, romantic getaway, families with young children, sightseeing.
Owner response: Wow.....seems like you really enjoyed yourselves and took a lot of time writing this review. I'll never forget the big smiles on your faces when we went for a ride in my cars. Danielle's orchids are her pride and joy and she loves giving tours. We both hope to see you back in Maui sometime soon. I'll take you out in some of my other cars! Mahalo from Danielle and Gregg

What a pleasure it was to stay at the Maui Dream Cottage. I couldn't think of a more appropriate name. We were greeted upon our arrival by Gregg who gave us a tour of the property and spent time to answer any questions we had about Maui. We were pleased to have a basket of fresh fruit all grown on the property (bananas, avocados, oranges). Gregg was able to give us unique insight into the area and things to do. Away from all the high rise hotels and within an hour of anything you want to do on the island. Stay here, you will not be disappointed. Added bonus - Gregg had snorkel equipment, body board, and travel books/cd available for our use Much MahaloRecommended for: Age 55+, families with teenagers, adventure seekers, romantic getaway, families with young children, sightseeing.
Owner response: We're so happy you enjoyed our gardens, fresh fruit and beach gear. Staying on a private property makes all the difference in Hawaii. Living like the locals. Mahalo from Gregg and Danielle

Gregg and Danielle are great hosts. They are very helpful and gave us lots of information on what to see, where to snorkel, where to dine, where to shop, and more. And also fresh avocados and lemons. The cottage is well designed and very comfortable and very private, well worth the daily rate. Laundry facilities are in the back porch, there are items such as spices, sauces, mayo, mustard, etc in the cupboads and refrigerator. We booked for and paid for 2 extra people. Unfortunately due to illness the other couple couldn't make it so Gregg and Danielle offered a refund for the extra payment for 2 extra people. They also have lots of additional items for use, such as beach towels, coolers, ice packs, bamboo beach mats, snorkeling gear, kayaks at no additional fee. Gregg gave me a wonderful tour of his vintage cars and offered a ride in one, which I missed because of our other activities. Boo Hoo! You can't go wrong being here off the beaten touristy path, nice and relaxing. We didn't mind the distance from the main town, it is only 20 minutes away. It worked for us since our modus operandi on trips is to leave in the morning, fill our day with stuff, and return in the late afternoon. My husband and I stayed in the smaller of the two guest cottages that Greg and Danielle provide to travelers. Very private and quiet, with beautiful flowers everywhere, amazing! We absolutely loved the location and ambiance of their property. The cottage is located near the small town of Haiku which has several wonderful restaurants and a nice grocery store. Greg and Danielle had fresh avocados, lemons and apple bananas from their garden in a basket waiting for us to enjoy. The cottage was very clean and well equiped providing us the ability to cook some of our meals, a satellite tv, wireless internet, washer and dryer, beach towels and a cooler to use when we went to the beach. Danielle's orchid garden had both of us snapping pictures of their beautiful blossoms and enjoying the wonderful fragrances. We enjoyed visiting the island of Maui and would highly recommend this vacation cottage to all.Did you find this review helpful? Yes | No Helpful votes: 0/0

What a great experience getting away from the resort areas and truly living an island life, even if only for a short time! Gregg and Danielle have thought of everything we'd need to feel at home and even enhance our stay on the island, going so far as to provide me with baking pans to bake homemade bread! Very clean, well-stocked kitchen and bathroom, laundry porch and incredibly comfy beds allowed us to enjoy our time, instead of running everywhere to meet our family's needs. Plenty of room with our 3 children in tow. North shore views of the ocean and no view of the main house helped us feel secluded, as well:?) I truly recommend this cottage for anyone looking to get off the beaten path and find their own Maui! I can only hope our hosts were as glad we stayed as we were to stay here:?) Mahalo!Recommended for: Families with teenagers, girls getaway, adventure seekers, romantic getaway, families with young children, sightseeing.
Owner response: Aloha and Mahalo...so glad you had so much fun in the sun and enjoyed our cottage and botanical gardens. Gregg and Danielle

What a wonderful experience! Gregg and Danielle were the perfect hosts, answering all our questions and providing ideas for activities and sightseeing. The cottage was immaculate and had everything we needed. The location is ideal: peaceful, quiet, with the birds and breeze in the background. Danielle's orchid garden is amazing; as is the entire property; ask for a tour. Thank you so much for sharing your piece of heaven.Recommended for: Age 55+, people with disabilities, girls getaway, adventure seekers, romantic getaway, sightseeing.
Owner response: Thanks for the kind words. Seeing you walk barefoot across the lawn made our day, you settled right in to paradise. The avocados are still falling. Mahalo from Gregg and Danielle

This was our first trip to Maui and we would not have changed a thing. This is a great cottage on a beautiful property to relax in for the week! Well represented in listing and owners were very responsive to all communications. Close to everything we needed while getting us away from the crowds. Good location for our day trips to check out the island. Owner shared fruit grown on their property, yum! The trade breezes kept everything nice and cool. And the stars were amazing!Recommended for: Age 55+, girls getaway, romantic getaway, families with young children, sightseeing.
Owner response: Aloha, Glad you enjoyed the fresh bananas, avocados and lemons. Best guacamole I ever had! Mahalo from Gregg and Danielle

About the owner: Gregg and Danielle have lived in Hawaii since they were 18. Gregg is a retired jeweler/gem dealer who now is a glass bead artist. Danielle spends her time growing orchids and tropical flowers on their property. Gregg is a classic car guy and there is always something interesting in his garage. He has a 1964 Shelby 289 Cobra and a 1959 Porsche Carrera Speedster. Guests may want to ask him for a ride.
Why the Owner Chose Haiku:
Haiku is all about open space and cool ocean breezes. We are both water people and need to be close to the beach. Maui's historical past is still alive in Haiku, a great alternative to the resort area on the other side of the island.
The Unique Benefits at this Cottage:
We enjoy avocados, coconuts, lemons, limes, oranges, papayas, jackfruit, coffee beans, and more. We also grow many tropical flowers and orchids. You will feel like it's your own home every time you come up the palm lined driveway. You can check out Gregg's Classic Car Collection at http://www.dakinecarcollection.com
