Jo was easy and fun to talk to when planning our trip to Kauai and her area. The dome is a beautiful, architectural wonder, and our space bright, colorful and very clean. We often sat on our upper balcony, enjoying the antics of the nesting birds on the huge cliff right in front of us. Jo has landscaped her property with a large assortment of Hawaiian plants, and with a water-flowing trench running along the land. I enjoyed being with Honk, her donkey. We made a beef stew in the crockpot, perfect to come home to after a day exploring the Waimea Canyon, just up the road. We also made a noodle soup in the electric skillet in just a few minutes. Everyone in town was super-friendly and made us feel welcome. We're happy to recommend Jo and the dome to anyone wanting to experience this end of the island.

The location was excellent, and Jo is very personable and was a great resource. The facility was good if you are NOT going to be there very much- not a good lounging place and do not plan to cook very much. The cooking facilities are extremely limited and there is no kitchen sink- only the bathroom sink for cleaning your dishes.

Owner response: It was great having you as my guests even with the heavy rains!! Yes as stated the kitchen is compact but I have had guests whip up some amazing meals in a small space. I lived in a tent for a year while building this dome so I can adjust but I know not everyone can. :)

My husband and I really enjoyed our stay at the Dome. Our room faced a huge cliff full of nesting birds, which sang from early morning to evening. Beautiful! We loved being in a rural neighbourhood, on a dead-end road. Not your typical tourist spot at all, which was great. Even though the place is small and simple, we felt very happy there, with our extraordinary view of the cliffs, and the valley and mountains. Our hostess was so friendly and helpful, and gave us all the space and privacy we wanted. I highly recommend this place to adventuresome types, that like something unusual and imaginative. I'd go back there in a flash.

Great location for hiking in the canyon. The unit was clean and pest free. The host of the propery is great and the fresh fruit wasexcellent. If you are looking for excitement this is not the place to come, it is quiet and secluded. If you are looking for a quiet spot to stage hikes from you could not ask for a better spot. The town is close by and there are some great places to eat or sit down and have a great cup of coffee. The place will not be for everyone, the kitchen is small but I did not find it to be an issue. I had read a previous post about the bed not up to snuff but I did not find that to be the case. All in all I had a very pleasant stay

It is a very quiet location that is located up a side street near the Waimea canyon. The space is small and the kitchen is really too small to cook anything. The front deck is comfortable and the bedroom is aesthetically pleasing; however, the bed is very uncomfortable. It is memory foam and has seen better days. The grounds are well manicured and Jo is great.

Owner response: The top grade memory foam bed is vey very new and used by less than a dozen guests. It has a comfort level that is adjustable from firm, medium to soft however guests with extreme physical issues may still need more.options. I wish my floatation tank was set up already, This may have been the answer to this guests personal needs.

This is a very special place. It's not for everyone, but if you're looking for somewhere quiet, unique, and off the beaten path, we highly recommend it. Two of us recently stayed here for 10 days and could not have asked for a better experience. Jo was a pleasure to deal with from the initial communication to her helpful and welcoming presence during our stay. (And we are SO IMPRESSED with everything she has done here; she is our new idol!) The location is gorgeous, the house clean, the bed comfy, and the Wi-Fi fast and reliable (sadly, we had to do a little work while visiting). Nature lovers will enjoy all the birds, stargazing from the porch, the river in the backyard, and the proximity to Waimea Canyon hiking trails. We can't wait to return!

About the owner: I fell in love with Kauai during my first vacation here in Dec 1999/Y2K. I decided to stay. I built my childhood dream dome in the back county where horses are not only common, they roam free, often stopping at my house to snack. I made a movie of the building of this dome, there is a short version streaming on you tube just do a search for monolithic dome homes and you will see me!!
