Silver Bay Lodge is located on the scenic Michigamme River, in Republic, Michigan. This beautiful log cabin sits on 20 acres where waterfowl and wildlife abound. Your privacy is assured, yet you're only minutes off state highway M-95. The lodge is family-friendly, with children and pets welcome. Snowmobilers, hunters, fishermen, hikers and bikers will find the lodge to be an excellent home base from which to explore the U.P. Scenic, private and quiet, the lodge is the perfect place to unwind from the work-a-day world. It can also be a great place to stage a family reunion, with plenty of room for guests to gather together. We also offer guests the option to access the Michigamme River from our own home on the basin in Republic. The river is more of a lake at this point, and boaters can paddle up and down the river for miles, stopping for picnics at local parks. A riverside sauna is available here as well, and we'd be happy to fire it up (with advance notice) so that guests can experience the invigorating thrill of jumping into the river after steaming in the sauna.

- Wheelchair Accessible (may have limitations) : Main level is wheelchair accessible at all times; however, lower level (walk-out basement) is not accessible during the winter months.
- Kid Friendly : We welcome children of all ages, with the caveat that their activities be monitored at all times, as lodge contains beautiful custom-made furniture and decorations that could be damaged if mis-handled. Also, although the river isn't deep, nor does it have a strong current in this area, water always presents an inherent hazard.
- Smoking Not Allowed : Smoking is allowed outside the building. We would request that smokers dispose of their butts properly, and not throw them out on the ground.

Owner's Profile
Owner Description
Your hosts are Jon Mykkanen and Marie Serafin. Jon is a life-long resident of Republic. He has worked as a building contractor for 20 years but has recently turned his talents toward chainsaw carving. He is a third-generation Finn and has the accent to prove it! Marie is from downstate Michigan but has been proud to be an adopted "Yooper" since 1977. She and Jon have been together for the past six years, working as a team in various pursuits. They recently became members of the Republic Lions Club and enjoy working on fundraising and community service projects.
Why the Owner Chose Republic
The lodge is a result of many years of spare-time work, and was initially intended to be a retirement home. However, when another piece of property became available, and Jon had a hundred cabin logs that needed to be used before they rotted, he began building a new log home, leaving Silver Bay Lodge available for the enjoyment of our guests.
The Unique Benefits of this Cabin
The single greatest benefit of staying at Silver Bay Lodge is the opportunity to connect with nature. It is common to see deer walking through the yard as you enjoy your morning cup of coffee. The river changes daily, and evening sunsets are spectacular. Peace and quiet are the norm here.
