My apartment in Marta is beautifully furnished, & located on a quiet side street 3 minute walk from the town center & lake shore. Life in Marta is a small Italian fishing community not yet spoiled by tourism, yet in the summer they have many " Festas" which are all part of the Italian life. It is ideal location to experience all that Italy has to offer. The festa di Barabbata in May is the most important of all their festas. Festa di Latarina, festa di Corregone, both fish from the lake as well as festa di canniola a local wine produced only in Marta. Many activities along the lake shore in the summer evenings with live music, dancing.
There are numerous restaurants, bakeries, bars/coffee shops, delis, 2 supermarkets. There is everything that you may require.
It is an ideal base from which to explore the surrounding area, which is right in the heart of Etruscia. Tarquinia 40 minutes, Tuscania 15 minutes, Montefiascone the highest point in Lazio with breathtaking views of the lake, 10 minutes away. Famous for its white wine EST. EST. EST. Orvietto 35 minutes Viterbo with its many spas & hot springs, sulphur pools.
Lake Bolsena is the biggest volcanic lake in Europe, the crystalline water of this lake is exceptional, beautiful for swimming, sailing , snorkeling. There are many uncrowded undeveloped sandy beaches to relax on. Also some with facilities, cafes, sun beds, boat hire.
This region is known as the Maremma, taking in southern Tuscany & northern Lazio with beautiful rolling hills covered with vineyards, olive groves, kiwi vines. For art & history visit Orvieto, Siena, Rome (hourly trains from Viterbo) The Etruscan towns of Tarquinia, Tuscania, Vulci.
There is plenty of information available in the apartment on places to visit, or just relax and enjoy the charm of Marta. It is an ideal area for biking, hiking or just exploring. Take a cooking course, or a sailing course.
Visit the sites in Rome 1 1/2 hrs by train (free parking at the station) or car. Rome Fiumicino airport 90 mins Ciampino airport 90 mins.
