Kelly's Cottage was nice enough for our needs. It was very well photographed and is less fresh than the decor suggests but the listing is accurate. The location was fine, not too far from Bar Harbor. The bed, however, was an issue. I was able to sleep rolled to the side but my husband did not fare so well and complained to me about it. I had read that some improvements had been made to the bedding but they were not sufficient for our comfort. We were only slightly aware of the traffic sounds and found that moving the fan into the bedroom helped a lot with that. There was a free-standing sort of air conditioner unit in the den but we chose to sleep with the windows open at night and the fan on. In all, a good enough stay for the price.

Owner response: It is always helpful if issues are addressed when renters are here. Since this comment is not specific with respect to the bed I am unable to respond effectively except to say that the mattress is two years old. I buy firm mattresses because an extra mattress pad will usually soften it enough for those who want a softer mattress. The furniture in the living room was new this year and is not what is in the picture on line. I will be updating the pictures at the end of the season.

The weather was wonderful every day and warm. Some days had a nice breeze that was great for hiking. The absolute best restaurant was the Town Hill Bistro on Rt. 102. Loved the lavender brulee and the scallops and gnocchi. Also, Thurstons for lunch was reasonable and very good. Thirsty Whale - excellent pumpkin ale, lobster rolls and whole belly clams. Jordon Pond - lobster stew and popovers. Sue and Mike have been excellent hosts and this cottage is heavenly. Love the location, so quiet and peaceful and convenient. We Kayaked Hamilton Pond and walked the serene neighborhood. I will recommend this cottage to my friends and family. It has been a wonderful week!!

Our favorit adventures; fishing at Hamilton Pond - caught some nice bass and sunnies. Riding around the island and going to Cadillac Mtn. Bar Harbor Light House. Jordon Pond and walking our greyhounds around. The shore path in Bar Harbor is nice to take a stroll. Lunts Gateway for incredible clam chowder. Parkside and Michelle's Restaurants. My husband and I have been vacationing here (Acadia area) for the past 8 years and of all the places we stayed, Kelley's Cottage was the best! This is our second time at the Kelley's. The cottage was perfect and pet friendly. It doesn't get better than that! Sue and Mike were perfect hosts. We will be back next year for sure.

We had a great time in Maine at the Kelley cottage. Our bed was very comfortable, and the cottage very clean and had a well-stocked kitchen. It was nice not having to bring sheets and towels. The location is convenient on Rt 3, you can travel full circle around the island from here. Its perfect for two active adults! We recommend Two Cats for breakfast, and Lompoc for a casual lunch or dinner(try the mussels in mustard sauce) We loved Acadia and would recommend to anyone who loves the outdoors. Great hiking and biking!

Recommended for: Adventure seekers, age 55+, pet owners, romantic getaway, sightseeing.

Owner response: We love to hear that the Cottage helped make your vacation a pleasant one and that you got out and enjoyed our beautiful island. There is so much to see and do and so many great restaurants that it's hard to fit into just one week but you can always come back. -Sue-

The weather was about 25 degrees cooler than home. Our favorite adventures were Pemetic to Jordan Pond hike; Island Cruise to Frenchboro; eagles, seals, cormorant, lobsters; Harry Potter at Reel Pizza. Great lobster roll at Thirsty Whale; Sea aBiscuits Cafe in Southwest Harbor. Seaweed on the rocks is slick! Steve broke his elbow on Wednesday - Hospital in Bar Harbor is very nice.

We were very pleased with Kelley's Cottage. Not only was it clean and nicely decorated but they thought of everything to make our stay stress free. All we needed was some food and our clothing. The owners, Mike and Sue, are very hospitable and gave us some great ideas for restaurants, like McKays and Jack Russells for dinner and 2 Cats for a great breakfast. There is a Park entrance two miles from the cottage and the Island Explorer free bus goes by the property every half hour so you don't need your car to get around. We were out a lot and didn't find the road noise to be a problem at night. The bedroom is on the back of the cottage and we kept a fan on so there was never a night that we noticed any noise. The bed was very comfortable. The mattress was bought shortly before our stay. The bathroom was pretty small but functional. We would definately recommend this cottage to our friends. It was comfortable, clean and a very fair price.

Recommended for: Adventure seekers, age 55+, tourists without a car, pet owners, romantic getaway, sightseeing.

Owner response: 2010 will be our 21st season as owners of Kelley's Cottage. We take pride in providing an affordable rental where guests can relax in comfort when they aren't out exploring the island.

Kelley's Cottage was a perfect place to stay in Bar Harbor! The cottage is clean, and well stocked with kitchen supplies and linens. The back deck is a great place to have coffee in the morning. Bedroom is comfortable and cozy and we slept like rocks after long days of hiking in Acadia. More importantly, the owner could not have been nicer. We cannot wait to return to Bar Harbor and stay at Kelley's again.

The property in itself is nicely done. There's a lot of privacy and the owners are helpful. Most importantly, though, we didn't expect to be so close to what we consider a busy road (if you look at Google maps it's pretty obvious but we didn't notice beforehand- it's basically the major road leading into Bar Harbor - Rt.3). This is the main reason we would never rent this again, especially in the summer (in the winter the windows and doors will be closed so you wouldn't really notice the noise). In addition, the bed and shower were not what we expected. the shower head is in desparate need of replacement and the bed was very uncomfortable. There's no vent in the kitchen so if you cook there is smoke and smell all around for a long time. Again, the renters were very friendly and hospitable. They also have a great yard for kids to play in and the area is very nice. The national park is absolutely beautiful. But due to the above, we would not rent this home again.

Owner response: It is important for tenants to tell owners immediately when there is a problem so that it can be remedied. The shower head was an easy fix and the current tenants who have been here many times don't have a problem with the bed but I have added a foam topper. The ceiling fan and two other fans in the cottage would have cleared any cooking odors out in a matter of minutes. I always explain the proximity to the road. The cottage is set back by one hundred yards. It is in the middle of our three acres. This unit is usually occupied by two people at a time and not by people with a small baby. Our two bedroom unit would have been more comfortable for this family.UPDATE: The bed was replaced at the end of the 2009 season.

We enjoyed the cozy feel and appreciated the fact that you had equipped the cottage with everything we needed for the week. Not only was the cottage clean and updated but the price was right. Thank you again for your hospitality and we'll see you next summer.
