This was our first visit to Maine. Luckily we found this log cabin available for one week in August. Sadly we had only one week. We could have spent the entire summer at this gem. The cabin and the setting are amazing. We enjoyed every moment. We took daily trips to Acadia Park, hiking on trails. The evenings we spent on the beach, watching the crabs in the water at high tide. Our last evening was truly unforgettable. We had high tide around 9pm. The water was so calm, as we have never seen. The sky was a wonder, with billions of galaxies in sight. My 8 year old son saw the Milky Way for the first time in his life. In this tranquillity the only noise was made by the seals bark on the nearby island. Thank you Laura and family for sharing this "piece of haven" with us. Your house is truly a place where one desires to return.Recommended for: Sightseeing, families with young children, pet owners, adventure seekers, romantic getaway, families with teenagers.

There are so many good things to say about this property that it is difficult to put them into a coherent review. We had a wonderful week at this meticulously maintained house in Surry. The very usable beach faces the southwest so the sunsets were great, and the tides although around 12 ft did not send the water too far from shore at low tide. If you’ve rented beach properties in Maine you know that this is special. The deck was spectacular and picks up the afternoon sun, which can be sheltered by an awning if you prefer to have the sun around you but not on you. My wife and I enjoyed the relaxed atmosphere and friendly people in the area who actually smiled and waved. The house lies off a nine mile long, well-paved dead end road. For those of you who enjoy a relaxed bicycle ride with the family in the morning this spells heaven. From this location we could find just about anything we wanted to do within a 45 minute drive and still return to a peaceful haven that the owners helped feel like home. We...will return.Recommended for: Families with young children, pet owners, romantic getaway, age 55+, families with teenagers.

You couldn't choose a more perfect spot. The house is clean and beautiful and has everything you could need on vacation. The views from the deck and beach are stunning with sweeping views of the Blue Hills. The kayaking is spectacular with a ahort paddle to see the seals lounging on Jeb's Island. The house is very private down a 1/2 mile well maintained dirt road. My husband and I are avid runners and beautiful Newbury Neck Road is quiet enough that we could run with our 2 dogs with no worries about heavy traffic. We managed to hit Perry's twice for a delicious lobster dinner. The house is close to Ellsworth and Mount Desert Island but we decided to stay close to the house, run, kayak and read on the beautiful deck. Laura, Jay and their daughters could not have been nicer or more accomodating...happy to help when asked but respecting your privacy. We would highly recommend this house for a relaxing vacation on the coast of Maine.Recommended for: Sightseeing, families with young children, pet owners, adventure seekers, romantic getaway, age 55+.

My husband and I wanted to hike Acadia for our 10th wedding anniversary but also wanted to escape to a private wonderful home where we could take our baby (Siberian Huskey) Luke. We found this magical home close enough, yet far enough away. It was like we were on our own private island surrounded by beauty inside and out~ the sunsets and sunrises were amazing!! This is a home that has been well loved and cared for and it shows, the energy in the home was peaceful and loving. We took the kayak our to Jeb Island and played with the seals...Luke played with Cookie the neighbor's dog who stopped by everyday to say hello~ Our only regret was that we didn't stay longer...but there's always next year~ Thank you Laura for sharing this lovely home with us and allowing Luke to come along~ we all had such relaxing, wonderful vacation full of laughter love and light~ I would recommend this to anyone who wants to have a private peaceful get away~Recommended for: Girls getaway, families with young children, pet owners, romantic getaway, age 55+.

My husband and I rented the cabin for 2 weeks . The cabin is very well maintained, clean and has all the amenities we needed. The photos are accurate descriptions of the property which is secluded and peaceful Laura and Jay made us extremely welcome,Jay even took us out on his boat for a trip! The cabin is in a beautiful location, steps away to a charming bay.The sound of the waves lull you to sleep at night, the birds wake you in the morning. My daughter and her husband took the canoe out across the bay to an uninhabited island where they saw eagles and seals.I was a customer at the lobster pound four times! We had many memorable evenings on the spacious deck watching the sunsets, relaxing with a glass of wine. Once in a rainstorm we got the awning out and sat underneath, dry, to enjoy the storm! Bar Harbor is a neat little town with good restaurants, and the Lighthouse tour by boat is a blast.Acadia is beautiful,be sure to go to Jordan Pond for their popovers...Than you Laura and Jay, one day we want to go back to your cabin.Recommended for: Sightseeing, girls getaway, families with young children, adventure seekers, romantic getaway, age 55+, families with teenagers.

We had a great time at this wonderful log home hidden away in the Maine woods. The views of Morgan bay are beautiful, This is a great place to relax and soak up nature. We spent a few days just enjoying our private beach with our two labs. We really enjoyed kayaking out to see the seals and playing hide and seek with them. This is the perfect place to relax and do nothing, or use as a base for exploring Acadia National Park or South to Blue Hill or Deer Isle. The house has everything you need. The owner was nice enough to build a gate on the deck so our dogs couldn't wonder off. The deck is huge and provides wonderful views of the water and the sunset with Blue Hill on the horizon. We hope to return soon.Recommended for: Sightseeing, families with young children, pet owners, adventure seekers, romantic getaway.

I just spent a week at this lovely home with 3 friends and a dog, and let me tell you, the photos do not do this home or it's setting justice! It's cozy, but roomy with windows and an upper deck that overlook Blue Hill and a lovely bay. The house was spotless when we arrived, something I have never encountered when renting a vacation home, and the owners had even set out a lovely fresh bouquet of garden flowers and a handwritten note to welcome us. The kitchen is well equipped and we all love to cook so the lobster steamer and food processor came in handy. We also had ample opportunities to kayak in the bay and soak in the sunsets on the lovely beach. Hey, a beach you can sit on and enjoy along the rocky Maine coast! Be sure to look for starfish in the tide pools. And even though we were here at the height of the summer season, it was quiet and private and off the beaten path without being too isolated. This is the perfect spot for relaxing and an excellent starting point for many lovely adventures from art galleries to hiking the Schoodic Peninsula. You're very close to some of the best towns in Maine including Blue Hill, Brooklin, Ellworth, Winter Harbor and even antiquing in Searsport.Recommended for: Sightseeing, girls getaway, families with young children, pet owners, adventure seekers, romantic getaway, families with teenagers.

Our family (including our dog, Sally) had a wonderful time and fell in love with the house and the beautiful beach. Our 4 year old son wanted to stay and live here. Sitting on the beach or the deck and watching the sun sink below the horizon at the end of the day was so peaceful and calming; I really could feel the stress of work life dropping away for the first time in quite awhile. The location was perfect too – remote enough to feel like you’re the only people in the world, but close enough to make day trips into Blue Hill and Bar Harbor. We can't wait to come back again.Recommended for: Sightseeing, families with young children, pet owners.

The best of all worlds! At the end of what feels like a private drive through the Maine woods....a gorgeous log cabin appears. Bound by woods and gardens on three sides and an extraordinary view of the ocean from the wrap around deck on the other, you won't want to leave! The private beach is literally steps away. This is truly an incredibly fun, relaxing and peaceful vacation for adults and children alike. This is an exceptional Maine experience that we can't wait to return to!!!Did you find this review helpful? Yes | No Helpful votes: 2/2
