Jeff’s Place is unique in Budapest apartment rental, designed for people like its owner: mature and experienced travelers who care about beauty, coziness, and amenity but feel the impact of increased airfares and decreased value for their dollars or Euros.

A place that doesn’t compromise on comfort; that’s centrally-located, near the major Metros, trams, and buses; that's in a vibrant neighborhood where you can find hundreds of cafes, restaurants, galleries and shops; where coming home at night is a pleasure not a dread; a place that's within walking distance of most sights, yet calm and quiet and restful.

A true 3-bedroom apartment (3 bedrooms, 1 full, custom bathroom plus 1 WC/toilet, eat-in kitchen, and small courtyard table), Jeff’s Place sleeps 9-10 on beds that don’t compromise either (2 top-of-the-line queen+ mattresses; 2 queen convertible sofas with solid (not folding) mattresses; and a full-sized InnoStyle sofa bed. Each of the three bedrooms has a secure door, wardrobe, writing desk, small fridge, flat panel TVs (with cable TV), phone, all complimented with fine linens and the same towels used on the Presidential yacht Sequoia.

You will find a large bathroom with custom shower, sink, and toilet, plus a separate WC (with toilet and sink), and gracious eat-in kitchen. The entire apartment is tastefully appointed and has WiFi throughout, unlimited free International calling and local (pay-for-minutes) mobile phone; small library of guidebooks and leisure reading. Plus the amenities you expect in fine hotel: toiletries and emergency supplies in the bathroom – from soap to bandaids in the bath, the best coffee you’ve ever tasted (Nespresso coffee system and pods provided) as well as staples in the kitchen, umbrellas and rain ponchos by the door.

Included in our pricing is taxes, heat/electric/utilities, linens, towels, of course, cleaning weekly and upon departure.

Jeff's Place brings back to Budapest the Hungarian tradition of the Vendeglö, or guest house. A place where there’s a warm welcome from the host; a cozy place to rest at the end of the day in a ground floor apartment facing both the street and the building's picturesque if fraying courtyard, there's easy access from the street.

The neighborhood is remarkable, it is at the edge of the center of town (one block from the Kalvin ter Metro station; one block from the Raday utca café, gallery, and pub scene; two blocks from the stunning National Museum and the remarkably renovated central Public Library building). But the surrounding street life is the most intriguing aspect of the neighborhood: an artists’, designers’, and bohemians’ haven. The Frank Zappa Café is a block away, as is one of the city’s best Blues cafés. There’s a design showcase a couple of blocks north with a great atrium café, and the Hungarian architects’ society is just around the corner, with an inexpensive and lovely outdoor restaurant. There are Retro fashion shops, used vinyl record shops, and an Indian Bazaar. Not surprisingly, it’s also a major university center, with the medical school across the street and two of Budapest’s most important universities filling many of the surrounding blocks. A modern full-service neighborhood market (open 365 days a year) sits at the end of the block.

We have an on-call management team in both Budapest and the USA to address any problem or question you may have. Guests' children are welcome (same rate per child unless sleeping in crib which is available on request).

No smoking within the apartment, and no pets.

It’s owned by an American from Colorado and managed by the same staff responsible for some of Budapest’s most expensive and gracious apartments. The collaboration is designed to deliver all the comfort and amenity of your own private home at a price only slightly more than most hostels.

Why the Owner Chose Budapest

Rich history, excellent food, wine and cafes, wonderful music and performance scene, suberbly efficient public transport, relaxing spas and mostly kind and charming locals; All that Europe's most cosmopolitan cities offer but at a fraction of the price.

The Unique Benefits at this Apartment

We love to leave the car behind as there's really no need in the city for a car.

Nicely located, great space!

Our family of five (three children) stayed at Jeff's Place twice this past June. Jeff and John were very helpful and prompt making arrangements for us as we made our reservation, even including a large enough taxi to meet us at the airport. The place is located very conveniently and using public transportation we were able to get to anywhere we wanted to without any problems. The apartment is very nicely laid out and we felt very comfortable. Our favorite was the wonderful shower that proved rejuvenating after a busy day in town. We also enjoyed the old world ambience of the building and neighborhood. We would definitely recommend Jeff's Place to our friends.

Great family holiday

We stayed at Jeff's place in July 2011. We had two adults, one 16 year old, a 5 year old, a 3 year old and an infant. It is in a great location in Budapest. We loved loved Budapest and is a great city for kids. We shopped at the market hall for breakfast items and enjoyed the food in the city. The apartment is a great location for all. There is plenty of space in the apt, very clean. Only thing I have to caution on is DO NOT leave your car parked outside othe street without getting a ticket from the machine, even for unloading your bags. We left our car parked for about 30 minutes while we got squared away and they put a boot on it. The mgmt company was really great and called the city to have them come remove it (after a fine of course). But very helpful in helping us deal with all of it.

Summer in Budapest

This was a great place with convenience to all the hot spots in Budapest. We bought the 72 hour transportation pass called Budapest card which gave us discounts too and another way to get around. You can walk to the Gellert to take a plunge in the mineral baths as well as the Central Market to pick up delicious breads, pastries and gifts. We enjoyed restaurant row, Raday utca, which is a five minute walk too. There is so much to do on the Buda and Pest side. Allot some time for museums since there are two within 7 minutes from apt. We could not have had a nice and more relaxing time. Very nice accommodations in a beautiful city.

The apartment is very nice and comfortable. Location is great. Easy walk to subway, market, shops, cafes. Especially nice is living in a building among residents, smelling dinner cooking as you walk into the center court yard, seeing moms taking tots out in strollers. Owner was just wonderful with information and help. Arranged friendly driver for us. Jeff's Place is ideal. Stay here!

Exceptional Visit

Guest: Family of 6 (Stuttgart, Germany)
Date of Stay: 03/18/11 Review Submitted: 03/29/11

Our trip was wonderful! The apartment was perfect for our needs. We are a family of six with four teenagers and this place accomodated us all. Jeff's team you extremely helpful during our stay. We are already planning our trip back for this summer. Thank you for all the detailed information leading up to our stay - no surprises which is enjoyable. We also had a large American SUV in which we found parking in a secure garage around the corner from Jeff's place. The rate was less than 20.00 Euros a day to park the car. Public transporation was easy to use and the nearest metro stop is less than 200 meters from the apartment. We did not use our vehicle at all during our 4 day stay. We will recommend this property to all our friends.

Owner response:It was our pleasure to have you as a guest. We look forward to your next visit to Budapest. Jeff

My Mom and I stayed at Jeff's place for almost a week in October 2009 and loved it. The building is old, with an enormous iron door and very cool inner courtyards, while the apartment inside is modern and spic and span clean. We loved the character of the building and felt like we experienced a "real" Budapest apartment as most of the other residents in the building were Hungarian (as opposed to guest houses we stayed in across Eastern Europe). Our room had everything we needed, and it was wonderful to have a shared kitchen space to make our own meals and snacks. Although we typically ventured a few blocks up to eat on Raday Utca where we found lots of great restaurants. There's also a very cute courtyard even closer (just walk along Szentkirali and cross Baross) with great coffee shops and a pharmacy, little grocery stores, etc. We loved that area. And best of all, you're super close to Kalvin transit centre which connects you easily to the rest of the city, baths, shopping, etc. Budapest is BEAUTIFUL and staying at Jeff's place saves you money so you can experience everything else in the city! We highly recommend Jeff's place (and the szechenyi bath house! A MUST experience!) and will definitely stay there again WHEN (not if!) we're back in Budapest. Robin and Gale, Canada

Owner response:Thanks Robin and Gale! For potential guests please note Jeff's Place can be rented privately or in a shared scenario. It all depends on your needs.

Absolutely great place to stay, especially if you are on the hunt for places that are not Holiday Inns in disguise. The apartment was centrally located, only five minutes from Kelvin Ter. This was our first stay in a rental so we were a little apprehensive. NO problems. The support from Jeff and his local staff was outstanding, from arranging for transport from the airport to recommending local taxi service for other needs. They were instrumental in making our stay wonderful. Close to the central market, great local places, etc. We were with another couple and used the third "bedroom" as a social area at the end of exhausting days. We walked averywhere, and ate any where. My wife kept commenting on the quality of the towels and linens. I would recommend staying here to anyone. Get to the more "local" baths (near the zoo)!!!

Jeff's Place is in a superb location, is well equiped (including free long distance to the US! and a full kitchen, with all the usual appliances; nice if you're staying a week or longer - or buy cheese that you want to take home) and just lovely. Very well appointed with great Hungarian posters inside and nice furnishings. The local (US-born) caretakers, Jeanne and John (on occasion) are fantastic. Jeanne showed me some sights and John talked me (an IT idiot) through making the internet phone service work again. One can walk to a number of sites easily, and if you're a walker like me, you can pretty much cover Budapest easily from Jeff's Place. One word of caution (although this is based ONLY on my personal experience; yours may be different): Jeff's Place is intimate, as it is not a hotel and if you have not booked the entire lodging, you may be sharing with strangers. While I originally welcomed this option, figuring that I would meet like-minded folk and perhaps even new friends, that was not the case for me and it was a little odd. This would be a superb place for 3 couples or a family, or if you think you might have issues with this sort of necessary intimacy, you might think of booking the entire place. Please note that I interacted very little with the couple who spent time there while I was staying; it was just a bit strained (for me; they may have been completely ok - as might you). Certainly, you can chalk some of this up to my age (over 40) and past lodging experiences. I do not want to disparage Jeff's in way. It's just a personal choice. Would I choose Jeff's Place again - definitely. Would I visit Budapest again - absolutely. Enjoy the market, the hot baths and if you are lucky enough to be in Budapest for the Pig Festival (I'm sure it has a more formal name) at the City Park, you're a lucky person. It's loads of fun.

Owner response:Thanks Kathleen! For potential guests please note Jeff's Place can be rented privately or in a shared scenario if you only need 1 bedroom. It all depends on your needs.

Jeff's place was a great base from which to explore an amazing city. The apartment was clean and well-maintained, and it was just a 10 minute walk to the center of Pest. The wireless signal was great, although the apartment didn't seem to have the advertised air-conditioning. Also, the owners were extremely helpful in arranging the details before we arrived. We had a great stay, and I would recommend happily recommend it!

We stayed in Jeff's Place for a few nights in July 2009. We were really impressed with the service and with the apartment. First we were met by Jeff's recommended driver who fulfilled a special request we had made. We were promptly met by our contact who showed us in and gave us information on the apartment and surrounding area. The apartment is located in a beautiful historic building with incredible stairwells, balconies and entry way. It truly feels like stepping back in time (and I mean that in the best way). The apartment itself is very well appointed with good beds, modern electronics, internet access, and plenty of space. It's secure, comfortable and located on a quiet street that's convenient to sites and transportation. We could not have asked for more.
