Beautiful! Absolutely Beautiful! We had a great stay, we truly enjoyed the home, scenery, and use of the boat and lake. We were able to spend 2 full and 1 half day on the lake and tubed, floated and sunned our way to exhaustion. I would suggest this to any one for a enjoyable time with family and friends!Did you find this review helpful? Yes | No Helpful votes: 0/0

What a great place to enjoy nature and relax! We had a wonderful time with our teenage children--fishing, wandering, and simply disconnecting from our fast-paced lives! We loved it (despite some rainy days)!Did you find this review helpful? Yes | No Helpful votes: 1/1

Our family of four (two adults and two teenagers) stayed here the week of July 4th 2011. They have a beautiful spot on the lake with great views. We rented this home specifically because it came with a boat. Having the boat included in the rental and available every day made the week. The deck boat was perfect for tubing, waterskiing, kneeboarding, etc. Our family enjoyed the spending time by the firepit in the evenings and the home has a great view of the fireworks on July 4th. There is one bedroom upstairs and three downstairs. The stairs might be a little steep for someone with mobility issues. The home was well appointed and comfortable even without air conditioning downstairs. I was a little worried about this at first but the temperature was very comfortable, especially with the fans running. The owners and property manager are very nice and easy to work with. If we ever return to the area we would certainly consider staying here again.Recommended for: Girls getaway, adventure seekers, families with teenagers.

We visited "Shady Rest" in April, Easter week. We had a highly enjoyable stay. Even though it was chilly, we donned our wetsuits and braved the beautiful lake to enjoy tubing and boating. We operate a small business and had not taken a real vacation since we began our endeavor. My husband was finally able to relax, fish, and relax. You have thought of everything and we appreciate you sharing your home with us. Our kids are clamoring to go back to the lake, please, please, please. Thank you again!Recommended for: Sightseeing, girls getaway, families with young children, romantic getaway, age 55+, families with teenagers.

I have spent many winters and summers traveling to locations such as St. Marteen, Florida, Germany, Canada, Australia, and many more. This was my first trip to the Carolinas. The house was absolutely gorgeous, but as amazing as the house was, it will not be the reason I will return. It will be due to the UNBELIEVABLY good, no GREAT service we were provided. For example, The first day we arrived the wireless internet was not working. I emailed Steve and within an hour or so of sending the email, he had contacted a repair company and it was up and running. I can not even get a paid service provider from my home town to fix anything that fast. Unfortunately we arrived to our Lake front vacation during a week of rain. Being in an unfamiliar place in not the best of weather, I was a little uncertain what to do. Steve (the home owner) called me the first day we arrived and began informing me of things that we could do given the bad weather. He was very informed on the activities in the area and seemed very concerned/interested about us getting the most out of our vacation. I have NEVER in my many years of traveling had a home owner/renter care so much about the people staying in their home. Steve and Rosie were the most accommodating, personable, caring people I have ever had the pleasure to rent from. On the few days we had good weather, we took the boat out on the lake. It is one of the most gorgeous places I have stayed in a long time. The fishing in the lake is good, even for a terrible fisherman such as myself. There are also great hiking trials, horseback riding, sightseeing, waterfalls, and great roads for any driving enthusiast (such as my self). There is a town not far from the house with plenty to keep a family occupied and food including small diners, fast food like Tacobell, Burger King, Dominos, etc. There is a small bowling alley, towns with good shopping, supermarkets and Block Buster. The locals are very friendly and seemed happy to provided advice and instruction. I recommend a stay in this lake front home for any and everyone looking to take a vacation. This home is the perfect balance of a quiet and secluded home, without being far from the bare necessities. Sincerely, A pleased renterRecommended for: Sightseeing, girls getaway, families with young children, pet owners, adventure seekers, romantic getaway, age 55+, families with teenagers.
Owner response: We have only been renting our home for a short time now, so we don't have the experience that many other people out there have. However we do know that if you are pleasant, understanding and accommodating to the people that want to rent from you, you will get the same in return. This renter was pleasant, understaning and compliant with everything we asked of him. The things we thought would be a problem were not because we communicated with each other and issues were resolved. In response to his comments about us we are humbled. We value his opinion of us and we feel the same way about him. I will also say that this renter and his party were amazing guests. We would have no hesitation what so ever in welcoming him back to our vacation home. The success of a vacation rental is having renters come back and the only way you make that happen is by attending to their needs. Treat them as you would like to be treated. A pleased homeowner

My family spent our week of Spring Break at Shady Rest and had a wonderful time. We were very comfortable in the home itself and were awed at the view of the lake every morning. The beds were very comfortable also! It was so nice to have the use of the Four Winns boat and to be able to just walk down and get in and take off. While it was still a bit chilly on some days the first week of April, we found coves where it was calm and enjoyed the sunshine. We enjoyed the Lake Toxaway area, especially the waterfalls in the area. This was one of the most relaxing, enjoyable vacations we have taken.Recommended for: Sightseeing, adventure seekers, age 55+, families with teenagers.

Our week in October at this house was great! Since we were the first to rent this home, there were some minor adjustments that had to be made, but the owner and the property managers were "johnny on the spot" and could not have been more accomodating, seeing to our every need! The upstairs is the master bedroom with a bath off the bedroom. The kitchen is updated, a bit small if there is more than 2 people cooking and cleaning. The dining room and family room upstairs has an electric fireplace and the BIG tv. Downstairs there are 3 bedrooms/2 baths with a living area, couch chairs, fireplace and a GREAT place for the kids to hang out with all their stuff..On each floor is a small porch to sit and admire the beautiful view of the lake and sunrise. The pontoon boat was a bit on the dirty side, but in good working order. Just right for our sunset cocktail cruise. We were also able to hook up to the internet with their wifi. The grocery store, Ingles, is 20 minutes away and very clean and friendly(one must remember there is a big time difference between city miles and mountain miles). We went to Whitewater Falls, Whiteside Mountain and Turtle Back Falls to do trail hiking and saw some amazing scenery from the top of the mountain and the kids were able to wade in the stream at the bottom of the mountains. We also visited the Biltmore House in Asheville. I would recommend making that an all day afair as the house itself takes about 2 hours to tour, the garden 1 hour,if you see it all, and of course there is the winery.....need I say more! Our last day was packing and laundry day which was nice to come home with clean clothes! I would highly recommend this home. Although it is not one of the mega masions on the lake, it is comfortable and one of the original houses. The owners did a great job at remodeling the inside with the use of earth tones, stainless steel appliances, granite counter top and then adding a little country charm. We plan to go back in the summer where we will be able to take the kids skiing and tubing.Recommended for: Sightseeing, tourists without a car, families with young children, adventure seekers.
