Adorable cabin on a perfect spot of mountain. We had a wonderful time playing in the creek. The kids enjoyed roaming the property...NO poison ivy :) The basement playroom was a bonus! Even though it was in the dead of summer, the temperature was very pleasant. The log cabin was very comfortable with really neat decor. We felt right at home. Would definitely recommend this cabin. The owner is very great to work with.Did you find this review helpful? Yes | No Helpful votes: 1/1

Thank you so much for welcoming us into your little home! Our whole family had such a delightful time, even the smallest member – in fact, I believe our little doggie was in a state of bliss the entire stay as she ran through the woods and yard to her hearts content! From the moment we parked and got out of the van, we could hear the water rushing past whispering its welcome to us. Although the rhododendrons were not in bloom, the greenery was lush along the creek, but still cleared enough to allowing roaming, exploring, and even crawdad catching! In the front yard tiny little purple flowers were populating the grassy areas with butterflies flittering around them. The chairs from the basement were comfortable and clean, and the hammock provided hours of relaxing stress free time for my husband, and even little getaway moments for the kids. When the evenings turned cool we relaxed by the fire pit and let the sounds of the waters soothe us like a natural lullaby and we slept with the master windows open let the fresh air drift through our dreams (and I was grateful when I discovered a fan in the closet as I am so spoiled to hearing one at home!). The kitchen had everything we needed for cooking all of our meals, and we used the delicious vanilla gift in our morning pancakes more than once! The house is charming without being overdone, and the gas fireplace adds just the perfect touch to prop your feet up in front of after a busy day out and about. As for the driveway concerns of a previous post, yes it is a little steep – but we were driving a Ford E350 – 12 passenger style van which sits high, but we made it up and down with very little issue, even though it rained for several days of our stay – it did not hamper the ascent (with running start) or the descent. So if that vehicle can make it easily, I am sure that lower sitting cars and trucks can navigate it like champs. It’s just an aspect of mountain life you have to get used to I suppose. I would definitely advise all future guests to get their supplies at the WalMart in Murphy though, because the Ingles there in town is ridiculously overpriced, meaning a short list of perishables and other food items cost almost 246$ - at WM it would have been about 103$ (I carried my receipt and compared) so it is well worth the 20 minute drive to Murphy. Your generous kindness made our stay affordable, and we will definitely look forward to sharing the word with everyone we know (we have provided the link tDid you find this review helpful? Wow! I don't even know what to say or where to start. This cabin is an amazing, quaint, neat cabin in the woods. When we first walked in, we were in aw! This cabin has everything you need and then some. From the cozy, comfortable furniture; everything you need supplies; the warm, inviting feel; to the most important thing to me, CLEAN!!! The list goes on and on. We roasted marshmallows in the fire pit every night and made s'mores. The kids played, explored, and had "forts". The creek in the back is beautiful. And the kids had a blast playing the pool table/air hockey in the basement. During our stay, we kept saying we had as much fun at the cabin as we did exploring NC. We had a fantastic time in North Carolina and Running Creek Cabin made it PERFECT! Thanks to the Mannix's for opening up and sharing your cabin with us. I can't say enough good things about our experience and we will DEFINITELY be back! The O'Connell'sDid you find this review helpful? Yes | No Helpful votes: 1/1

We had a wonderful time at the Running Creek Cabin. So much to do in the area and it was great to explore the area around the cabin too. We enjoyed fishing for trout in the streams, going to the John C. Campbell Folk School and shopping and dining in Murphy and Waynesville. The scenery with the Fall colors was just breathtaking. We really felt relaxed and refreshed. Thanks to the Mannix family for sharing their cabin with us.Did you find this review helpful? Yes | No Helpful votes: 2/2

We had a wonderful stay at the cabin. The cabin was very clean and layout was very accommodating. The setting was very peaceful and relaxing. We really enjoyed sitting at night on the deck, listening to the creek and looking at all the stars in the sky. The cabin is very convenient to a number of attractions in Western N.C. We will definitely be back again and hopefully for a full week. Patrick R.Did you find this review helpful? Yes | No Helpful votes: 2/2

The cabin was perfect! From the decorations, to the couch, shower, deck, fire pit, and the bed, it was everything we hoped for. I was looking forward to lying in the hammock, (shown in pic) but unfortunately it was not up when we arrived. The creek was terrific - my husband, I and our dogs explored it and were very happy when it just kept going. The cabin is private, and secluded, but not too far from town. There were great restaurants in town that were reasonably priced with delicious food, and everyone was so friendly. The driveway was a bit scary for me, I refused to drive up it, only down, my husband was my chauffeur, as he had no issue with it. Lots of fun stuff to do nearby, we actually planned of day to do nothing but sit at the cabin. Thank you to Mike for being so great to us, we are definitely planning a trip with our friends next year.Recommended for: Adventure seekers, age 55+, families with teenagers, families with young children, pet owners, romantic getaway, sightseeing.

First vacation in many years and it was great! We got to choose whether to have a fun filled day hiking, fishing, rafting, zip-lining, or just to sit and listen to that wonderful creek and enjoy the peacefulness of this place!! This cabin is "tucked away" although not too remote; weather was great and the owners leave NOTHING to chance!!!! You have it ALL right here, even if you want to stay at the cabin 24/7!! (and you may decide that you don't want to leave!!) Cabin is very clean, and has everything that you need; wi-fi service is great if there is concern about "staying connected"; Don't miss out on this one....I cannot even fathom what an autumn would be like at Running Creek, but i hope to find out!! Owners are great and made this an extremely smooth process. You will NEVER want to vacation in a hotel again!! Thanks Mike!Recommended for: Adventure seekers, age 55+, families with teenagers, families with young children, girls getaway, pet owners, romantic getaway, sightseeing.

Mike, we had such a wonderful time at the cabin. Everything we needed was there—all we needed to do was buy a few groceries. I have worked in the vacation rental industry and feel that your cabin is as well equipped as any I have ever seen. The cabin is decorated beautifully and well maintained. We certainly enjoyed the privacy and quiet the cabin offered, with the beautiful trees and babbling stream. Again, many thanks for such a wonderful week. You made everything perfect; and it was a wonderful break from the Florida heat. We look forward to returning sometime soon. Thank you.Recommended for: Adventure seekers, age 55+, families with young children, pet owners, romantic getaway, sightseeing.

The owners are a pleasure to work with and very friendly. I have already recommended this cabin to others to check out. We stayed in Mid-October for a week and had a blast. The fall colors were perfect on all the trees around the property!!! Great location to get out and explore! Our activities for the trip included....Zip Lining at Nantahala, Harrah's Casino in Cherokee, Gold n Gem Grubbin near Helen Georgia, Stoney Hollow U-pick Farm in Robbinsville, Hiking at Joyce Kilmer Forest in Robbinsville, and the Cherahalla Scenic Highway in Robbinsville (to the highest point and back). We had fun evenings with some drinks and a variety of music stations from the satelite TV. You can chill in the cabin or enjoy the fire pit. Reserve it and Enjoy!!Recommended for: Adventure seekers, age 55+, families with teenagers, families with young children, girls getaway, romantic getaway, sightseeing.

This cabin is the ultimate in vacation gettaways. The ammenities are excellent , the service is great, and totally unbelievable cool weather during this time of year. The only thing that would be better is to stay at the cabin during Christmas. It certainly shows how God painted this earth especially North Carolina. If you know where to go fishing it is awesome. Go to Coldsprings Trout Farm. My wife, sister and brother in law and me caught 8.5 lbs of trout in less than 2 hours. We couldnt even eat them all. The rest we put in the frig in freezer bags, hope the cabins next vacationer will enjoy them. We even panned for riches unfortunately didnt find them but was really fun doing it. All in all this is a place of total comfort for any person looking for a clean, very cared for, home away from home. Cant wait to go back.Recommended for: Adventure seekers, people with disabilities, age 55+, families with teenagers, families with young children, girls getaway, tourists without a car, pet owners, romantic getaway, sightseeing.

This was the BEST vacation. The cabin is beautiful and you could not ask for anything else. The location is nestled inside the woods with beautiful trees, running creek in the back and a fire pit. We stayed 7 nights and wanted to stay more! All you have to bring is your clothes. The cabin is stocked with everything you would want and more. We had 6 adults and 2 children and could not of had a better time. We explored the 3 acres available, went white water rafting, at a picnic at the lake, had a fire every night and had smores, we all used the hammocks, we enjoyed the games, ping pong, puzzles, movie nights at the cabin. We were very impressed with the amenities. Thank you so much for sharing your little piece of heaven. We will return soon, I miss it already Henegar Family and Callison FamilyRecommended for: Adventure seekers, age 55+, families with teenagers, families with young children, girls getaway, romantic getaway, sightseeing.

Our stay was wonderful! Mr. & Mrs. Mannix have thoughtfully provided everything you need to get back to the basics with your family. We spent time exploring, climbing nearby mountains, panning for gold in the creek and enjoying the company of the ones we love the most - our children. The location is wonderful - close to town, but not too close! The shop owners in Andrews were very pleasant to talk to - there's something to be said for southern hospitality! If given the opportunity, we will definitely go back. I can't write enough good things about the cabin, its location and the amount of fun things to do in the area. Our worst moment was pulling up the driveway to leave! We really enjoyed out stay at Running Creek Cabin. The creek is so pretty and peaceful. Our 11 year old stayed outside looking for gold. He found a heart shaped rock, which was really neat! There were 7 people in our party and we all slept very comfortably and loved the decor of the cabin. We used the fire ring and roasted marshmallows. The only complaint we had was that our weekend at Running Creek Cabin, went by too fast! My son was sad to go home! My teenage daughter also loved the atmosphere of the area and cabin. It was a perfect setting for her to catch up on her reading and to explore the grounds. I didn't even mind washing dishes because because it seemed like less of a chore there. I guess it was the atmosphere of my surroundings. :o) We did not really visit any places in the area except Murphy and we road along Junaluska Road. (We turned right onto Junaluska Road from the cabin, flowed to the first left, where we saw the sites close by. We eventually made another left and ended up on the Western side of Andrews) There was a beautiful waterfall from the top of the mountain and a wooden dam along the road side. We encountered many Fly fishermen who were more than friendly also. Thank you for our stay! We would recommend this cabin to everyone! We hope to return in the future.Recommended for: Adventure seekers, age 55+, families with teenagers, families with young children, girls getaway, pet owners, romantic getaway, sightseeing.

We had a wonderful time, loved the cabin! My daughter is on her way to boot camp she shipped on Tuesday and the cabin was the perfect family getaway before she left. It really offered us quiet quality family time, brought us together by the fire pit at night, and allowed our family to find much needed peace. It is just beautifully situated and we really loved. My dogs (Rubia and Luna) loved it too..they also enjoyed walks on the AT. We enjoyed watching the humming birds from the living room while they visited the deck feeding area. When we chose Running Creek Cabin for our getaway, we felt fairly confident that we had chosen a nice spot, with lots to offer. When we arrived.... we were blown away!!! First, it is really very convenient to town (Andrews). Just a short drive down to the main road, which offers easy access to groceries and restaurants. (We enjoyed dinner at Monte Alban - Mexican, but be warned they don't serve beer or Margaritas!! However, we were able to snag some Sangria, which was made from locally made wine. Very nice!) It is also a short drive to the Nantahala Outdoor Center. This is a top notch operation offering whitewater rafting/kayaking, etc... We had a blast!!! Our guide was phenomenal! The cabin itself is a fantastic blend of rustic charm with modern decor/conveniences. You truly feel like you are worlds away from the stresses of life. The creek (which is literally right outside the back door), provides soothing sounds all day and night. The campfire ring out back sits next to the creek, allowing for true relaxation (and S'mores) at the end of the day. There is NOTHING that this cabin does not provide! We looked for several things during our stay and never once came up empty handed! Mike was truly a pleasure to work with from start to finish! He went above and beyond to be sure that we had a wonderful time! I think our favorite part was the binder of information on the cabin/surrounding areas. There is even a step by step diagram on how to unfold the futon! Wow!! What more can you ask for? Thank you Mike!! :-) I can't imagine that anyone could stay at this place and not want to return. I know we WILL be returning to Running Creek Cabin! This trip was meant as a romantic getaway... but after only a few minutes inside, we realized that the kids would LOVE it! Hmmmm..... we will see how sweet they are between now and then! :-) Enjoy!Recommended for: Adventure seekers, age 55+, families with young children, girls getaway, romantic getaway, sightseeing.

I came to the mountains for hiking, swimming, and most importantly, some relaxing! I thought about staying in a local hotel, but I wasn't thrilled with the choices (or the reviews). I decided to look for cabins on the internet; I looked for hours! The cabins were either really old-looking or way overpriced (sometimes both). Thankfully, I stumbled upon "Running Creek Cabin" on tripadvisor. I e-mailed the owner (Mr. Mannix) and heard back from him almost immediately. He had me sold when he told me about the creek running through the property, and the hiking sticks hanging by the door...I am a very picky traveler and am easily disappointed, but this place far exceeded my expectations (something I thought was impossible to do). It was beautiful, immaculately clean, well equipped with all possible conveniences, and in a serene, magical setting...just like a dream home away from home! Mr. Mannix was incredibly helpful by giving a detailed description of the house and the area. He even went as far as to tell me about the free/inexpensive things to do after I told him I was on a strict budget. It was blatantly obvious that the owners truly care about the experience of their renters. This place is an absolute MUST!Recommended for: Adventure seekers, people with disabilities, age 55+, families with teenagers, families with young children, girls getaway, pet owners, romantic getaway, sightseeing.

Our family has rented cabins in the Nantahala area for years and this is by far rhe most ultimate cabin experience we've encountered! The owners have anticipated every need for comfort, cleanliness and amenities...they even provided a notebook for cabin and area information! Tucked away from the road and surrounded by rhododendrons and running creek, it doesn't get any better for nature lovers that also want the luxury of home. Our biggest surprise happened when the grandparents challenged the grandkids to games @ the game tables in the basement and won! Relaxing and cooking s'mores around the firepit was also a big hit for our group. Can't wait to return in spring to see all the rhododendrons in bloom!Recommended for: Adventure seekers, age 55+, families with teenagers, families with young children, girls getaway, pet owners, romantic getaway, sightseeing.

We visited the cabin just before Thanksgiving on one of the coldest week's in recent memory but we enjoyed every minute of it. The cabin has everything you need and you can stay in the cabin in quiet seclusion. We had friends visit from Atlanta and the kids ran around the grounds while the adults sipped some wine. It's seclusion by choice; you can get online with wireless Internet but it's much better to get away, ignore e-mail and not having cell phone service is a major plus. Even though you are somewhat secluded it is quick and easy to get into town for a pizza or just to pick up some groceries. The area offers lots of things to do and we used the cabin as home base while exploring the entire region. We look forward to going back again next fall.Recommended for: Adventure seekers, families with young children, girls getaway, romantic getaway, sightseeing.

The Running Creek log cabin in the mountains of North Carolina was a place of beauty and mystery to our 3 grandsons on our family visit there in the summer of 2008. Their uninhibited joyfulness over Junaluska Creek , directly behind the cabin itself, allowed them to do so many of the things children love doing. Growing up in a larger city, it was magnificent to introduce the boys to the excitement of the natural world. What they “felt” when we were there seemed so much more important even than what they discovered. The roar of the wind in the trees during a storm that knocked out the electricity, the unutterable beauty of the nature that surrounded the beautiful log cabin, the grace of high-flying birds and so much more. Nature touched them… ….and all of us in some personal, special way in these beautiful N. C. mountains. The peace and beauty of Running Creek Log Cabin made our family vacation one to remember for a lifetime. As adults, we cherish our memories of such childhood scenes because they touch something deep inside us. 3 generations of our family enjoyed many beautiful and inspiring moments together both inside and outside of Running Creek log cabin. Perhaps we were feeling like we were living in a different time and place, if only for a week. I do know our week was filled with awe & respect for the wonder of nature as lively energies were channeled away from mischief, and toward constructive, and ultimately satisfying pursuits in the mountains. To the owners of the cabin, we thank you for creating the lovely mountain get away home in such a gorgeous setting. The overall effect of your N.C. retreat is relaxed & casual, comfortable, and yet quite charming. We appreciated your thoughtfulness in having everything very organized as we found ample supplies of kitchenware, bedding, etc. to assure a homelike atmosphere. We look forward to returning. My husband and I were delighted with everything during our stay at Running Creek Cabin. The setting is not only beautiful and peaceful, but very close to civilization! The decor is charming with attention paid to every detail. Showing up with just our suitcases we were able to live comfortably. Falling asleep to the sound of the running creek which flows behind the cabin was marvelous. As well, the deck which overlooks the creek and backyard is a wonderful spot to have meals as weather permits. One day was spent at Nantahala Outdoor Center, white water rafting, which is just a short drive away. Groceries are easily obtainable at nearby grocery stores. If cooking is not for you then you can enjoy a gourmet restaurant in nearby Andrews. For those interested in wine there is a winery right in town! The secenery is spectacular in this part of North Carolina; I can't recommend this fantastic cabin highly enough!Recommended for: Adventure seekers, age 55+, families with teenagers, families with young children, girls getaway, pet owners, romantic getaway, sightseeing.
