What most people like about Thailand is the tropical climate. Koh Samui - with average temperatures of around 28° C and low humidity - is good for travel from July to October. Usually, the sun shines all year. August is peak season in Samui.
Thailand is a true paradise for culinary delights.
An aroma of exotic cuisine and spices is always on the air. Curry spices, shrimp paste, coconut milk, garlic, lemongrass, coriander, added to the smell of fried fish, lobster, chicken, and vegetables. Let Thailand's flair enchant you.
Koh Samui has a tropical climate with average temperatures around 28°C. The weather is generally good year-round, with sun and low air moisture from July to October. August is peak season on Samui. The hotel is situated on the Gulf of Thailand. The best time of year for diving is from January to May and from September to October.
Big Buddha Temple
The overwhelming majority of Thais are Buddhists. Temples are a cultural centre for every town. Many of the 'Wats' have become tourist attractions. This does not noticeably bother the inhabitants and they go to pray regardless. The most beloved attraction is the temple with the gold-covered statue of Buddha that is found on the small island of Koh Faan. The island is linked to Big Buddha Beach by a short spit.
Hin Ta & Hin Yai
Also known as the 'Grandfather and Grandmother Rocks' - a strange rock formation that looks like a female and a male genital.
The rocks are the emblem of the southern Lamai Beach, and are among the most photographed tourist attractions. According to legend, a married couple suffered a shipwreck here and turned to stone.
This is an out-of-the-ordinary sculpture garden, which was made by an out-of-the-ordinary person. Nim Thong-Suk was a fourth-generation inhabitant. At the age of 77 he began to produce the figures.
These figures mirror parts of the story of Buddha and are situated in a romantic and unspoilt wild garden, through which a brook flows down over a small waterfall.
On Samui there are several waterfalls. The best known are the two Na Muang Falls. The first falls from a height of 18.5 metres right into the underlying water basin, which are perfect for refreshing yourself on hot days. The second rushes out from a height of 80 metres and flows down into many small pools in stages into the valley. While the first can be comfortably reached by car, you must plan a hike in order to experience the second waterfall, and definitely bring good footwear along. In the dry season, you will unfortunately only find small rivulets that creep down the rock face. Another beautiful waterfall is the Hin Lad Waterfall, which descends through the rainforest in several cascades and comes to its outlet by the temple of the same name.
These are four footprints that lay nested each within the next. Each one is artistically engraved with pictures from Buddha's life. 150 tall steps lead uphill to the small shrine where the footprint is found. Above, you will enjoy a view over the plains to the mountains opposite and the sea. The entrance to the temple is not marked, and is found on the left side, about two kilometres west of the turn-off to the butterfly garden on route 4170.
Wat Khunaram: The mummified body of Koh Samui's most honoured monk, Luand Pordaeng, has been set up and displayed in the same meditation position in which he died more than 20 years ago. Route 4169 between the Na Muang Waterfall and Hua Thanon.
