This unique and much loved top floor apartment looks out over the Moreton Bay fig trees of Rushcutter's Bay, to a glimpse of the harbour, where sailing boats tie up at one of the most famous yacht clubs in the world. The flat is light filled, airy, and gives a feeling of calm spaciousness. Although just a two minute walk from Sydney's nightlife hub - King's Cross - the atmosphere is quiet and intimate.
Sulphur crested white cockatoos arrive at the sunroom window in the mornings, hoping to be fed. There are many excellent coffee shops nearby, but at the cafe attached to the tennis courts across the street, lorikeets and other native Australian birds come by the hundreds, to the trees around the tables. This is a perfect combination of the resources only inner city living can provide, with the pleasures of the natural world.
The kitchen and living areas are open plan, incorporating a second sunroom (flooded with afternoon sunlight) containing the eight-seater dining table. The view here at night is very pleasing - lit windows interspersed with gardens and trees.
The second 'bedroom' has been turned into a library/work studio, which incorporates the other sunroom looking out over the park. Computer, printer, small Bose sound system etc. are all provided here, as well as a new grand piano and shelves of books.
The master bedroom has built-in cupboards and again, is full of light. The ceilings throughout the flat are high, the flooring is hard wood covered by individual rugs and kilims.
There is a 28 inch Sony television and DVD player. Bosch stove. Dishwasher. Miele washing machine.
This is a charming space conceived by an artist's sensibility. There is easily accessed public transport (trains and buses two minutes walk), but the central business district in any case is within walking distance (20 minutes approx). There are superb restaurants and coffee bars close by the flat, and in nearby suburbs, including neighbouring Paddington which is famous for its art galleries.
