Makaha on the Beach-Back in Time (Direct Oceanfront)
- Minimum stay:4 nights
- Internet:Yes
- Pets allowed:No
- Wheel chair accessible:No
Located on a Golden Sandy Beach Cove, we are direct ocean & cove front. One of the few where sea turtles rest daily. Relax in the shade of palms or swim in the cove with the turtles. A great place to enjoy the Hawaiian sunsets, in fact the point we are on is known as Sunset Point. The comfy/clean 3 bedroom 1-1/2 bath cottage is perfect for couples or small families to enjoy the sights and sounds of the Ocean & visit the island Of Oahu.
Still close enough to Waikiki for a day trip, but far enough away to see the 'real Hawaii'. Amenities on site are kayaks, snorkel
gear and Boogie boards. The home is our personal weekend getaway
so we keep it well stocked with all the conveniences of home.
We have fish ponds and tiki's to enjoy but of course the ocean & sunsets are the main focal point for all who visit. Tiki torches are available to create the ambiance of old Hawaii and you are far from street noise so the ocean will rock you to sleep and the birds will wake you in the morning. Many have called it paradise and repeat visitors are very important to us. Many return year after year.

My husband, myself and our 16 y.o. son stayed at this home for 10 days over the Christmas and New Years holiday. We all agree that if we could live in Hawaii, this would be it. We were well received and Tom worked with us on our crazy arrival and departure time changes. The pictures and description are accurate but don't do the property justice...staying at the property is amazing. My son and i were able to boogie board and snorkel almost daily. Due to large swells, there were times we chose to stay out of the water. I had many morning adventures with the pink kayak. No water toy need went unmet. The turtles, the view of the whales and dolphins in the distance, the rainbows, relaxing on the lawn in the back yard, laying on the isolated cove beach, watching the sunrise and set from the coast, all from the porch and within 50 steps of the home. The home is so comfortable and easy to care for, with all necessities available. We choose to frequent the local grocery store for most of our meals and cook for ourselves, but fast food is close by too. We are already planning our return trip and will not even look for a different property. Thank you Tom for sharing an amazing space. I hope sand is ALWAYS under the carpets :)!Recommended for: Adventure seekers, romantic getaway, families with teenagers, families with young children, sightseeing.
Owner response: Glad you enjoyed!! Hope to see you in the future at Back In Time, Your home in Hawaii. the pink Kayak draws a lot of attention.

My family recently stayed at this home for a week (wish it would have been longer). The pictures and description of the home were accurate and Tom was so easy to work with and made us feel very welcome! We brought our 3 children (ages 19, 15, & 6) and we made ourselves right at home. We ate all of our meals together on the lanai to enjoy the fabulous view! The kitchen had everything we needed and loved having a washer & dryer! The house was stocked with every kind of equipment and toys that you would need for any water activities! The beach access was so convenient and the cove was a great snorkeling spot for the husband and kids! We loved seeing the turtles that would come and rest on our beach. We would definitely rent this home again!! Thank you again Tom!Recommended for: Romantic getaway, families with teenagers, families with young children, girls getaway.
Owner response: Aloha Jodi & Family, Glad you enjoyed and hope to see you again next year.

Our overall experience at this home was good, the photos and description were accurate and the accomodation suited our family needs fine. What the photos don't show you is the lack of cleanliness and property maintenance that we encountered upon arrival. The house is the owner's beach house when it is not rented and that is very evident by the amount of their personal clothing, toiletries, and food in every cupboard and closet. The floors and carpets had not been swept or cleaned for a good long time, this was evident when you would move a carpet or item of furniture and there was a large build up of sand and misc items under or around it. The bathroom and fridge were left in far from clean condition-"guy clean" as the owner put it when we were being shown the accomodation. We spent the first day of our vacation cleaning so that we could feel comfortable for the remainder of our stay. Tom said he is the housekeeper and admitted that he hates to clean so he should consider having it cleaned professionally after each guest, I would sooner pay a reasonable cleaning fee than have to spend our first and last day there cleaning. We are timeshare owners and when we leave our resorts booked through that we simply have to ensure that the garbage is out and the dishes are in the dishwasher. Once our initial clean was done we enjoyed many things about this spot, the fenced yard was a bonus as we had a two year old with us and felt comfortable letting her go outside without constant supervision, the location of the beach from the house was convenient and the guys were able to experience and enjoy snorkeling and swimming with the turtles. A drawback to the location is that the beach has two public accesses to it with homes on either side of the walk path, there are NUMEROUS neighbourhood dogs that bark constantly when someone is walking down to the beach and this happens day and night. Tom has no control over this but it definitely is an annoyance particularly in the middle of the night when one dog can get the whole neighbourhood of dogs barking at the same time. Makaha has little in the way of amenities. Shopping and dining out is about a 1/2 hour away but the drive to the closest major shopping mall can be long and trying due to the traffic. Guests staying here will require a vehicle in order to enjoy the quieter location of this home.Recommended for: Families with teenagers.
Owner response: Vacation rental review response Wow, first bad review out of 100’s of guests. I failed according to the school principle!!! I guess you “CAN’T” please all of the people all of the time!!! It’s an old beach house and there had better be SAND!!! If you’re looking for a sterile, spotless environment, THIS IS NOT IT!!! We offer a beach house, COZY and comfortable, relaxation and the most beautiful views on earth. We also have sand in the kayaks and probably some in the snorkel gear as well ? Some people should stay at the Hyatt Regency and not leave the resort. We are a real neighborhood with live local people, live dogs as well as turtles, whales, dolphins and all the other nasties that make up an ocean environment. The visitors and I are the cleaning service (we have only charged one family a cleaning fee in 5 years) as virtually every family has left the home in acceptable or better condition. Thank you very much, please read the other reviews? We hope to see you at Makaha On The Beach- Back In Time where we may put some sand UNDER the carpet for you!!!!!! Much Aloha Tom

We had such a great time on our last visit that we came back ( I even brought my mother in law). There was 8 people in our party and the house was totally comfortable and accomedating. Tom was so very helpful with directions and how things worked around the house. There was every kind of water toy you can think of to make our stay an awesome experiance. Even our 9 year old grand daughter was never bored. The beautiful sunsets, swimming with the turtles, seals coming into the cove, and we even seen a manta rey in the cove on our last day there. We could have stayed another 10 days. It is a home away from home and we can't wait to come back for even a longer stay. Mahalo Tom for a GREAT vacation time that was relaxing, stress free, and a beautiful experiance. Want to get away and enjoy a life changing experiance? Come to BACK IN TIME........Fast EddieRecommended for: Adventure seekers, age 55+, tourists without a car, pet owners, romantic getaway, families with teenagers, families with young children, girls getaway, sightseeing.

We had the pleasure of enjoying Tom & Kathy's Paradise 2 years in a row. We enjoyed a 2 week family holiday consisting of 7 adults in Jan 2011. Six adults decided to return in March 2012, but for the month! Needless to say, Makaha Back in Time, is truly a remarkable spot. Everything one needs is provided in the home. (free WiFi, Ipod Station, beach toys galore, even fish to feed) Lots of clean linens and the beds are very comfy. The Lanai and the beach became everyone's favourite spots to relax, read a book, watch the whales and dolphins swim by. Of course there was the daily visits of the sea turtles and one day we had the pleasure of seeing a monk seal. Tom is always very helpful and available should you have any questions. Tom and Kathy many heartfelt Mahalos to you for sharing your getaway with us. We will definitely be back!!!Recommended for: Age 55+, people with disabilities, romantic getaway, families with teenagers, families with young children, girls getaway.

You know you have rented a great place when people from nearby resorts stop to ask you how you managed to find a place right on the beach. We spent many hours sitting on the amazing lanai, yard, or beach cove. The beds were queen - - not king. The bedrooms were adequate size - - not huge. However, amazing sunsets - - turtles sunbathing on the beach with us - - a well stocked kitchen - - and going to sleep to the sound of waves were all pluses for this rental.Recommended for: Age 55+, families with teenagers, families with young children, girls getaway, sightseeing.

Stayed 12/13- 12/21/11. The property was surprisingly better than what we expected. It is not a super clean hotel like place, but a lived in home, which makes it very comfortable for families. It even included a piano and bongo drums, which the teens played with daily. The house is in a local residential area, not touristy. The back yard is awesome! Green grass, palm trees, picnic tables, swing, and the sound of the ocean waves! The photos are accurate, but can't compare to being there, right down to the turtles on the beach. Tom the owner was very helpful and easy to work with; he greeted us with a welcome basket, YUM! He includes a list of recommended sights, restaurants, etc, as well as tips for safety. We would certtainly recommend friends stay here if they want a nice relaxing, quiet seaside vacation on Oahu. This is definately a strong swimmer's beach, not recommended for youngsters, although there is other family friendly beaches VERY CLOSE by. Tom includes all the beach toys, towels, cooler, etc, that you can use at the house or take to one of the other beaches. We recommend Ko Olina cove beaches (about 20 minute drive) for wading, and weaker swimmers, also a good place to practice snorkeling. We also enjoyed the local farmers market that is every Sat. at the high school. We would definately stay again. So come to Makaha fix yourself a drink and enjoy the ocean sounds and sights from the veranda; just don't go when we want to!!Recommended for: Adventure seekers, age 55+, romantic getaway, families with teenagers, families with young children, girls getaway.
Owner response: Glad you had a great time, Actually when the daytime tides are high and the waves not to large the Cove is quite child friendly and is where most kids in the area learn to swim and Boogie board- but when the tides are low it is a bit shallow and care needs to be taken as always in the Ocean. It is a natural cove full of sealife, which of course is what makes it special:) We always say watch the Ocean for at least 30 minutes prior to entering as mother nature can be non-forgiving

If you're looking for a quiet, clean & relaxing vacation spot on Oahu, this is it! My wife and I recently spent a week in Makaha and enjoyed every moment. We wanted to be away from all of the tourist hustle & bustle and be able to read, sit by the beach, snorkel and explore some of the local hangouts. The house is huge, with a big grassy backyard, "private" beach and has amazing views of the coast. We brought our 2-yr old daughter and there were plenty of activities to keep her entertained...especially the turtles that came to the beach every afternoon & feeding the birds/fish on the property. There were also several lagoons about 20 minutes away that were safe & fun for our daughter. We'll definitely be back!Recommended for: People with disabilities, tourists without a car, pet owners, romantic getaway, families with teenagers, families with young children.

We felt so privileged to stay at Tom's place for one whole month! Me, my husband, our daughter and two grandsons enjoyed the home and everything that comes with it! Boogie boards, paddle boards, kayaks and snorkeling gear were all in full use at the attached beach cove. We swam with the turtles and enjoyed awesome sunsets. My other daughter that lives in Makaha got married at the nearby resort, so the house was perfect for some family BBQs. This was our second time staying at "Back in Time" and we are already planning our next trip.Recommended for: Adventure seekers, age 55+, romantic getaway, families with teenagers, families with young children, girls getaway.
Owner response: Thanks, Glad all enjoyed

The four of us (two couples) had a wonderful and relaxing stay "back in time". The house is well stocked and comfortable; we especially liked the many artifacts, pictures, and masks scattered around in various places. Hawaiin Funkalicious if that's your thing. it worked for us. And lots of cool toys. We used the snorkle gear and kayaks every day from our almost private bit of beach. Not only did we see sea turtles, one morning there was a seal hanging out with only us on the little beach. The views from the patio and grassy backyard can make you very lazy, but go the little harbor nearby and catch the Spinning Dolphin cruise. This is NOT Honolulu. Its a very real neighborhoood.Recommended for: Adventure seekers, age 55+, romantic getaway, families with teenagers, families with young children, girls getaway.
