2BR Oceanfront Shipwatch Villa! High-Speed Internet!

Year Purchased: 2003

Why the Owner Chose Shipwatch

We purchased our first villa, a 1-bedroom, beachside Seascape (3563) and Kiawah Island Getaways was born. Once we got our feet wet with the villa rental business, it was a like a fever for us, and every year for five years straight, we purchased a villa. We both really enjoyed furnishing, decorating and maintaining the villas - not to mention the newfound fun of meeting and talking to all sorts of people about Kiawah.

Owner's Map of Shipwatch

In 1985 Shawn and I drove to Kiawah in our VW Bug convertible and Shawn introduced me to Kiawah. I remember stepping over the dune boardwalk out in front of the Kiawah Island Inn and seeing Kiawah's wide, sandy beach for the first time - it was so brilliant it practically danced before my eyes. It was during this vacation that the two of us decided to set our sights on moving to this beautiful and fascinating place permanently.

It was not until 1988 that our dreams came true and our U-Haul rattled across the Kiawah Island bridge (at that time it was nothing more than a wood-planked bridge). For the next four years we rented a 1-bedroom villa overlooking a lagoon, 4251 Mariner's Watch. Shawn was so thrilled to be living on the island that he spent the additional money required for the personalized South Carolina license plate "KIAWAH" (which we still own today). We both worked in Charleston and had a difficult time battling the traffic getting to our jobs, yet every weekend you could find us either cleaning villas (for other folks) or sunning at the beach.

In 1992, we began building our home on the island at 134 Conifer Lane. During the design phase, I gave birth to our first son Benjamin. He arrived 2 months early in an ambulance outside of the Kiawah Island Fire Station. In 1994, Theodore, our 2nd son was born. Theodore had a more traditional birth on the 9th floor of the St. Francis Xavier Hospital, overlooking the Charleston rooftops on Calhoun Street.

    • Nice accomodations. Everything as expected. Great beds & pillows. A larger frying pan would be nice. We added a shrimp deveiner to the unit's inventory. Owner's / management easy to work with & well organized. Detailed effort is obvious. Suspect we'll return. Gardeners should start later in the morning, especially with their blowers.

      Homeowner Response:
Dear Stevens Family, Thanks for the comments - I'll get the larger skillet and also give the Resort a call about their scheduled maintenance.

    • The "Treetops" was bright, clean and very comfortable! We loved that we could see the ocean from the living room too! The beds were very cozy so we slept great every night following our busy days. It was very convenient having our own washer and dryer. The boardwalk is only steps away from the elevator. We all had a very relaxing and enjoyable week! Mary, Mike, Rachel & Philip Motto

    • This unit looked wonderful in the pictures and the reality exceeded even that. It is light, bright, airy, beautifully situated in the tree tops, and also with a great partial view of the ocean. The attention to detail in the furnishings, decor, linens, kitchen equipment, beach necessities, etc is exceptional; one feels like a valued guest rather than a renter. Thank you to the property owners/managers for making this so effortless and wonderful. We also loved Kiawah Island - so beautiful and so much to do. The bikes are a must.

    • The villa was well equipped for all of our needs. Having the bikes, beach chairs and boogie boards, right at our fingertips, when we arrived was especially great. All of the bike trails were well kept and easy riding. The access to the beach was great! Information, in the villa, about Charleston and surrounding restaurants was very helpful. I would liked to have had more bath towels available so we didn't have to do a load every night (that was like being at home not on vacation). We thoroughly enjoyed our stay. Our daughter had to have wheelchair access everywhere and even getting to the beach was easier than I expected. Thanks, Robin
