Casale Barberino is located in the most coveted region of Tuscany, in the western Chianti, one of the most beautiful stretches of land in central Tuscany - in the Val d'Elsa. It lies in a picturesque oasis amidst its own woodland and olive groves in a peaceful setting with views across the valley towards the medieval village of Sant´Appiano.
Whilst being delightfully secluded the house is easily accessible to Sant´ Appiano (next restaurant) 2 minutes away, Barberino Val d'Elsa (nearest shops) 5 minutes to the north, and Poggibonsi just 10 minutes to the south. Florence and Siena are both within an easy drive via the motorway, 35 minutes, with San Gimignano just 25 minutes to the south-west. The access to the house is practical and easy: a short drive on a white access road joins to the main road just 700 metres away.
The estate cultivates the olive groves and vineyards surrounding the house. You can purchase the products of two fattorias (farms) belonging to the owner: Chianti DOCG, Rosso and Bianco IGT, Super Tuscan, Vinsanto, Grappa, Grappa Riserva, olive oil, Laudemio oil in the Barberino fattoria, as well as Sangiovese, Sangiovese Riserva and Biancodi Romagna of the Ravenna fattoria. The family of the owner produces wine since more than 500 years.
The villa has been fully refurbished with an ecological theme inside and outside in autumn 2007. The property captivates you with its unpretentious, modern elegance. Efforts have been taken to select a clear, more contemporary line of furnishings.
Nonetheless, the interiors have been stylishly decorated in keeping with Tuscan tradition. Materials typical for the region were used during restoration: the clay bricks on the ceilings, the wood used for doors as well as the heavy roof beams create a sense of warmth and coziness.
The rooms are an atmospheric ambience designed with loving care for details. The layout and the decoration was a project of the property owner Letizia.
She invested a lot of time and love in choosing the right colors for the wall paint varying from Mediterranean yellow, apricot, light blue to cheerful orange. She cared for light fixtures for the kitchen and the bathrooms, and in finding the right material for the sofas and armchairs as well as having a few choice pieces of antique family furniture restored.
The house measures approx. 240 sqm, and the entire building is laid out on just one level, a rarity in Tuscany! The light and airy rooms each have their own patio door to the gardens. That's comfort! With 6 bedrooms and 6 bathrooms Casale Barberino accommodates comfortably a group of 12.

Extensive gardens, olive groves and mature woodland surround the property with views across the valley. There are two large paved terraces immediately outside the house with shaded seating for outdoor dining with barbecue: on the south side there is a patio with large table for al fresco dining, on the north side there is a smaller patio with a smaller table where you can watch the children playing in the pool while you are relaxing with a glass of Chianti. An Infinity-style swimming pool (6 m x 12 m) with children's pool attached (3 m x 2.5 m x 30 cm deep) with Jacuzzi. External shower. Ample car parking. Children's play area.
About the region:
You can go shopping in Barberino Val d´Elsa, approx. 3 km away. Barberino lies along a beautiful road with views of the Colli Fiorentini on one side and the Val d´Elsa on the other. It is a hilltop village that has grown beyond its original walls, it has a lovely "centro storico". In Barberino there are two bars, a butcher, the best pizzeria far and wide, a wine shop, a hairdresser's, a pharmacy and a post office.
If you need a good supermarket you can choose between the one in Tavarnelle, where there is a weekly market every Thursday on the piazza or, even better, the large Coop supermarket (with an overwhelming delicatessen counter) in Poggibonsi, about 10 minutes away by car.
The next restaurant with a panoramic garden terrace can be reached on foot - a nice walk of about 10-15 minutes. (If you prefer to walk, it might be a good idea to take along a flashlight as the path to the restaurant is not lit). In the near vicinity there is a number of other smaller trattorias and restaurants offering specialties - in this region you can try out a different restaurant every night!
