Yankeetown, Old Time Florida Community on the Nature Coast
- Minimum stay:N/A
- Internet:Yes
- Pets allowed:Yes
- Wheel chair accessible:No
After a busy day fishing, visiting the attractions in Orlando, golfing, or any of the other many close by activities you will love sitting on the screened-in-porch and watching the shrimping fleet depart for the night or observing the varied wildlife that is always in and around the river or just walking around the 'Olde Florida' town of Yankeetown. When you turn off of Rt 19 for the 4 mile ride to Yankeetown you go back 50 years in Florida.
This is a comfortable privately owned home that has two queen beds and two twins in three bedrooms with 2 full baths. There are two kayaks, and a canoe for your enjoyment. A deep water boat dock with 50amp power and water.
Don't you just hate rental properties that only have the minimum in the kitchen for dishes, silverware, cooking utensils, pots/pans, and kitchen accessories. Then when you want to cook you have to go out and buy the condiments and spices which you end up leaving. Well this home has been our second home for many years so there is an extensive collection of all the above. Not guaranteed, but most of the time there will be all the basic condiments.
You will love sitting on the deck watching the sunset and of course you can still stay in touch with Internet WiFi available. Kayaking the river or one of the many side creeks affords a varied wildlife or bird watching experiences.
We are centrally located to all major Florida attractions such as Disney and Busch Gardens. We are 10 minutes from Crystal River and the Manatees. Fishing here is outstanding. You can fish off the dock or rent a boat to fish the waters of the Withlacoochee River with access to the Gulf of Mexico. Lake Rousseau and the Rainbow River are just minutes away. If horses are your passion Ocala (Horse Capital of the World) is about a 30-minute drive where are some of finest horse farms you will ever see. The Goethe State Forest boasts more than 120 miles of lush forest trails where you can ride, bike, hike, hunt, camp or bird watch. If golfing is your pleasure our area has several top rated golf courses: Golden Ocala, Rainbow Springs, Rainbows End, Juliet Falls, El Diablo, and Black Diamond.

My family and I had a GREAT time at this house in Yankeetown! The house is absolutely beautiful and the area is equally as beautiful! My family and I had so much to do: canoeing, kayaking, walking, fishing, and relaxing. We greatly appreciated that the house has everything we needed, such as silverware, pots, etc. Also, we loved that the house has canoes, kayaks, and other fun things to use. All we had to do was show up to the house! The area that the house is located is so peaceful and far removed from any hustle and bustle! In addition, the owner was very helpful and quick to answer any of my questions when I e-mailed him. We loved our stay!Recommended for: Sightseeing, people with disabilities, tourists without a car, age 55+, families with teenagers, pet owners, romantic getaway, families with young children, girls getaway.

While we enjoyed the house and its amenities, we did not like the cameras that the owner used to spy on us. There was no mention anywhere in the contracts or the VRBO write up that he would use a camera out back to watch us and to then email and comment to us. No member of our party would ever rent this again.Owner response: Yes, we do have two cameras on the outside of the property to prevent theft. There also signs displayed that clearly let everyone know this. We are not spying on our guests.

We stayed at the house when my parents came to visit from Washington State. This was my kind of vacation. Four nights in a home with a fire place, a well-stocked kitchen (utensils, pots and pans, condiments, etc.), comfortable beds, a screened porch overlooking the Withlacoochee River, WiFi for those who needed it, and plenty of room for people to come together or to do their own thing. With three teenagers, the above amenities were perfect. We enjoyed a fire each night, sat on the porch playing cribbage and reading, pulled out the canoe and kayaks for paddeling on the river, and even did some lawn bowling. We also enjoyed the golf cart, and my daughter brought her bike along. The streets of Yankeetown are great for biking. A short drive down the main road to the boat launch on the Gulf offered a great viewing spot for the sunset two nights in a row for us. Surprising how many people showed up each evening to watch! We made a picnic and took a ride (about an hour) to Cedar Key one afternoon. Stop by Tony's Famous Clam Chowder restaurant and pick up a pint or a quart of his delicious chowder. We did! Seems like this place would be perfect for someone with a fishing boat. We enjoyed watching the river traffic out to the Gulf each morning. Well worth the reasonable rental cost. Hope to visit David's other rental property in Tennessee some day.Recommended for: Sightseeing, adventure seekers, age 55+, families with teenagers, girls getaway.

I can't give this house enough thumbs up! The cost is low for what you get. Tons of amenities, golf cart, ice machine, nice grill, full stocked kitchen. Riverfront with dock and great fishing. I'd recommend this house to anyone looking for a relaxing weekend or an adventurous weekend. Tons of wildlife and fish; manatees, dolphins, gators, etc...This was my second stay but won't be the last. Looking forward to next time.Recommended for: Sightseeing, adventure seekers, tourists without a car, age 55+, families with teenagers, pet owners, romantic getaway, families with young children, girls getaway.

We just spent two delightful weeks here and highly recommend this rental. We'd never been to this part of Florida before, and for nature-lovers such as ourselves, this cottage and area proved perfect. The home is very comfortable and airy, with a well-equipped kitchen and lots of ice. Private and surrounded by many tropical trees and plants, we felt tucked away from every day cares and worries. We especially enjoyed the plush, comfy beds with designer linens...we slept very well. The full-length covered porch was perfect for river-viewing, morning coffee and al fresco dining. There's always a nice breeze and dining with diving pelicans, passing shrimp boats and jumping mullets was intriguing. We made full use of the two kayaks and the canoe. Paddling up or down the river revealed all sorts of interesting sights and critters. We saw a big gator basking on the riverbank, many turtles, an otter, and even a bald eagle. Ibis, pelicans, cormorants, owls, all sorts of egrets and herons were in evidence. Everyone on the river was friendly and we exchanged waves and easy conversations. A day trip we highly recommend is renting kayaks or a canoe in Dunellon and paddling the Rainbow River—the colors of the water and its clarity have to be seen to be believed. Victoria's Restaurant in Dunellon overlooking the river has great food—my husband fell in love with their calzones. You can tie up to their dock to eat. Another day trip we enjoyed was to Cedar Key—it's a charming village that reminded us of a pocket-sized Key West. We want to go back and spend a night or two at the highly haunted ancient Island Hotel—and to try their dinners. Their menu look very yummy. The closest grocery store in Inglis, Food Ranch, had great meats and the Save a Lot in Crystal River had some nice prices on fruits and vegetables—especially the mangoes, three for a dollar. We ate out most nights and found Crystal River had some great dining spots—The Olive Tree for Greek, ThaiPhoon for Thai, Charlie's for seafood, and El Ranchito for Mexican food. Try nearby Our Pub in Inglis for burgers and pizza and their Cuban sandwich was pretty good, too. If you like to bike ride, bring yours. Pedaling the leafy lanes of Yankeetown was great fun...if you need more books to read, stop in at the Thrift Store. The nearby Canal Trail to the gulf was a great ride, too. This is a wonderful house, we recommend it highly. David, the owner, was easy to work with.Recommended for: Sightseeing, adventure seekers, age 55+, families with teenagers, pet owners, romantic getaway, families with young children, girls getaway.

We really had a nice time New Year's weekend 2011. My wife and I as well as my niece and her family fit just right in this beautiful vacation home. Yankeetown is quiet, serene and great for nature lovers. Lots of wildlife.... porpoises, deer, raccoons, fish jumping (not biting) and a cool hooting owl visiting us on the dock. Real peace & quiet! Enjoyed the kayaks... The place had everything we needed as advertised. We would highly recommend this place and will consider returning the next time we visit Florida.Recommended for: Families with teenagers, romantic getaway, families with young children.
