Fishing: While at Salina Point Bonefishing Lodge, your principal fishing areas will include the middle and southern end of Acklins Island. An incredible bonefish habitat, with miles of flats, mangroves and creek systems lining the shoreline. You will find schools of bonefish as well as single larger bonefish. Many of the flats are easily wadeable and present anglers with great opportunities for casting to shallow water tailing bonefish. There is also a variety of other species including barracuda, triggerfish, sharks, jacks and snapper. Salina Point is a great place if you are looking for a variety of fish to catch on the flats.
Salina Point Lodge offers our anglers, on a seven (7) days program, the option of Do-It-Yourself wade fishing (3-days) and fully guided fishing, from a boat (3-days). For the Do-It-Yourself enthusiasts, you will be given helpful pointers, on where to go and how to catch these wonderful flats fish and a take along lunch. You will be taken by water craft everyday, have use of our kayak and picked up by a Salina Point staff member. There will also be locations only reachable by boat, in which case you will be shuttled by boat to these locations.
Once at the lodge, there is no reason to leave until the morning of your return flight! All your needs wll be provided for on our lovely property!! You will be sleeping on a fishable flat, with your water craft, moored out your bed room!!! As we say; 'you can cast from your bed room door!'
The fishing program here is very diverse – each day anglers will be fishing a different piece of water, always seeing new flats and creek systems. There is also an excellent flat right in front of the lodge with bonefish, triggerfish and barracuda only a cast away.
Acklins Island is one of the least known islands of The Bahamas, Acklins comprises the southern and southeastern part of the chain. The terrain is hilly and desolate, with unusual rock formations, and varied plant and animal life, including an occasional swamp turtle. Along its coastline are numerous hidden coves with extensive, beautiful beaches and a number of tiny, colorful, villages. Next door to us going north is Delectable Bay, Spring Point, Mason's Bay, Snug Corner, Chesters and Lovely Bay.
Bordered by the nearly uninhabited Castle Island and Long Cay, they are as natural as they were when The Bahamas was first 'discovered.' Columbus reputedly sailed down the leeward side of the islands through the narrow Crooked Island Passage, which has ever since served as an important route for steam ships traveling from Europe to Central and South America.
The bight of Acklins is more than 1000 square miles of shallow water. This is one of the largest area of bonefish-flats in the Bahamas. Exploring this system of flats, creeks, channels and mangrove marls could take a lifetime.
There are two flights on Bahamasair into Acklins Island each week. These flights are on Wednesdays and Saturdays. Plan to spend the night in Nassau the day before travel into Acklins. !
Please leave plenty of time between connections, especially on your return flight. Make sure you are booked into Spring Point, Acklins and that you exit the plane on Acklins Island as the flight serves more than one destination.

A friend and I had the recent pleasure of spending a week at Felton's place, and it did not disappoint. Although the weather made for challenging fishing the first half of the week, we were able to catch fish and when the sun finally came out in force for the last three days we were treated to some world class bonefishing...the habitat is outstanding, and we never saw any other anglers. Acklins Island is truly an unspoiled fishery. The accommodations and food were very satisfying, and the remoteness of the lodge yields a high degree of quiet and solitude. Coming back to the hustle and bustle of the northeast in the states was quite a contrast. All lodge staff made us feel like the most important people in the world, and our vacation is memorable because of that.Recommended for: Sightseeing, adventure seekers, families with teenagers, romantic getaway.
Owner response: Thanks much! It was very easy waiting on you guys!!!! Felton

What would have been an excellent 10 days at Salina Point was spoilt only by the weather. Unseasonal wind directions and cloud made fishing difficult at times, but I still caught a lot of Bones.Replying to previous criticism, yes the road from the airport is bad, but it need only be once in. once out, all drop offs can be by boat. Felton the owner, Reno the guide and Eloise the housekeeper did every thing they could to make my stay very enjoyable and I can't wait to come backRecommended for: Adventure seekers, age 55+.

We just got back from a week-long trip to Salina Point Lodge and I want to go back tomorrow. My brother, his son and I were met at the airport by Felton. Having previously stayed at Felton's rental in Delectable Bay, Acklins, we were prepared for the pot-holed roads and enjoyed the ride down to Salina Point. After unpacking, lunch, rigging fly rods and chatting with the other guest we hiked a short distance down the beach. My brother found several schools of bonefish and we had good action for the rest of the evening. That night a cold front blew in and fishing was tough for two days. After that, bonefishing was good to excellent for the rest of the week. We were dropped off at a different area each day for wade fishing with a box lunch. My brother and his son utilized the guide service with Reno one day and the other guest did on several different days with excellent results. We never saw any other fishermen the entire week. Rooms were nice and comfortable and the food was very good, including my favorite: cracked conch. Felton was very accommodating trying to ensure that our needs were met. Take all your fishing supplies and backup equipment as the island has none.Recommended for: Adventure seekers, age 55+.

I'll admit, I bit off more than I could chew. My fishing buddy and I booked a 10 day stay here, with the first 3 days of our stay to be with a guide. We thought that would give us a good opportunity to learn something about the area and the fishing, and be better prepared for the "do it yourself" fishing the remainder of our stay. We were picked up at the Acklins Airport, by the owner of the lodge. We were told that it would be about a 45 minute drive to the lodge. We exchanged small talk and pleasantries on the drive along a very deteriorated road that was riddled with pot holes, broken and missing pavement, and after about a half hour of that, we came to "the bad stuff." The owner turned off this "road" onto what we found out was the "road" to the lodge. This was not a "road", but rather a bone jarring, gut wrenching trail of rock and ruts. We somehow maneuvered over this long stretch of terrain, for what seemed like an eternity. It was truly a very unpleasant experience, and it was unbelievable that this was indeed the only way to access the lodge. When we finally got to the end of this exhaustive drive, we encountered the lodge. There is not enough space provided here to discuss all of the things we experienced after our arrival, but I wish I could. "Fully air conditioned" turned out to be very misleading. It was only after a "heart to heart" with the owner that the AC was left on during the night, which was almost a necessity if you hoped to sleep. The power is provided via generator, and he didn't want to run the generator any more than he felt was necessary. We had boat issues from day one. It wouldn't run. A 2nd boat was brought in. I have some physical limitations, due to bad hips. I admit I should not have done the "do it yourself" thing. I didn't realize the difficulty of spending 6 hours out on the flats, after getting "dropped off", with no place to rest or get out of the sun. There are two ways to get "dropped off" on a flat. By boat or by vehicle. To access flats, via vehicle, you must negotiate the "road from hell", out and in. That's enough to ruin your day, before and after your fishing time. Not worth it. Because all fishing is tide dependent, you will likely encounter several hours of "bad tide activity" when dropped off. Not good. I won't go into detail, but a conflict with the owner, on my 8th night, completely soured me on this entire experience. I was extremely disappointed.Owner response: At the onset, we thank our guest for his comments and admit that the road system is bad! However, our guests come for the incredible 'fishing' and not the 'roads'. Mitigated by the fact, that once one is on site, you need not leave the property until your return to the airport, as the boat is anchored outside your bedrooms. We will continue our efforts to rehabilitate, 'Hyway to Heaven' There was an issue, that developed with the boat's engine, (the first day) that necessitated the guide returning to base after four (4) hours out on the water; as there was an excessive burn of fuel. The boat was mobile during the entire stay! As mentioned the captain returned as a caution(low fuel-because of a leaking carb)! We provided a different craft the next day, added an additional free guided day/trip to compensate! (the guest said he was pleased with this, as he got an extra day guided for free). There were no further issues with the engine or craft. Do-it-yourself fishing requires some physical capacity! The fisher should be able to walk/stand for periods, without difficulties. The fact that one must take a folding chair to the flats for rest periods is informative. We did what we could by having, on a couple of occasions the vehicle and craft available for transport, even this was not enough! We agree, DIY was not suited for this guest's physical ability. As mentioned, the lodge is at a remote location on its own power source!! The plant is run during the eveniing hours as necessary. A no wind condition developed during the first evening, so the power plant was ran all evenings, after the first day or first 'still' night. Again, the guest responded that he was 'happy'. Yes, there was an issue issue that developed, the real 'sour point' and made for a long 3 days! We quickly add, we were not in our role as Priest or Counsellor, but HOST! We know we have a wonderful fishery on Acklins Island and Salina Point Bonefish Lodge, will continue, as in the past to go beyond the call of duty to be responsive to the needs of our guests!! Again thanks!

Felton, what a fantastic week we had. Thanks for your incredible Acklins hospitality. You have a remarkable lodge with beautiful classic wade fly fishing in all directions. Everyday Seth and I had great wading adventures with a long list of memorable flyrod hookups. Bonefish, Sharks, 'cuda, Mutton Snapper, Trigge...rfish, shots at Permit and of course our "discovery" of rod busting Tarpon. What great memories! More new Bahamian/ tropical bird life than I can name here, including one flock of wading birds I still haven't been able to key out yet. The food was great especially your Conch chowder flavored with local goat peppers. Seth said, " best chowder I have ever had". I can't thank you and your staff enough for all the personal attention you gave us. It was that attention that made our stay a perfect father and son Acklins fly fishing vacation. See you next year….
