Take a holiday from the hectic workaday world in this classic 1890's cottage located in historic Prouts Neck, Maine. A small secluded community well known in artistic circles as the home of renowned painter Winslow Homer, Prouts abounds in a variety of rustic woodland settings and scenic seascape vistas many of which were the inspiration for Homer’s depictions of late 19th century Americana. Once nestled in, you’ll find it hard to believe you’re just moments away from Portland International Airport and the cosmopolitan city itself with its many unique, sophisticated shops and inviting restaurants.
Prouts Neck is an ideal getaway destination. Its mile and a half of beaches offer unlimited possibilities for long walks, swimming, sailing, and sunbathing. And at day’s end, the gracious, hospitable Black Point Inn [open mid-May through mid-December] awaits you for an early evening cocktail and a hearty Maine Lobster dinner. If your vacation plans call for a different time of year, fall colors in Maine are glorious and winter has its own special, quiet appeal. The newly re-decorated cottage is winterized for your comfort and has wood burning fireplaces in the den/dining room and living room. Whatever the season, you’ll have a spacious, light-filled home base to relax and enjoy.

In August We took our four kids (5 years and younger) and my 80 year old mother to Prouts Neck for 10 days. It was the perfect getaway for all of us. There was so much to do and no need to ever even think of turning on the tv. The house was beautifully decorated and perfectly laid out for our large family. There was even a wonderful small art studio that the kids enjoyed painting rocks and such that they found on the beach walks. The bedrooms were all very comfortable and one of the bedrooms was set off from the rest for some added privacy. There was no need to bring a thing as the house was fully stocked with beach towels, sheets, etc (which was nice as we were coming from Virginia.) This was my third time to Maine and have to admit this was byfar my favorite house and place to visit. Every morning there was a different adventure to take the kids on. The beautiful thing about Prouts Neck is that it sits on a point and is surrounded by water on three sides. There are two beaches to go to the Prouts Neck both wonderful to explore and private. Our kids personal favorite was the Cliff Walk which is about 1.5 miles long. All of our kids did the walk as well as my Mother (part of it). The Cliff Walk has some of the most amazing views I have ever seen. Along the way we would stop to snack or build "rock men". The kids also loved walking the 'Sanctuary' which is in the middle of Prouts Neck. It is a private boardwalk with beautiful lush foliage and birds. We atelobster every single day. There was a Lobster shack out on the main road into Prouts Neck. They let you pick out your lobster and they steam it for you. So yummy! We never really had to leave the Neck as all that you could want is right there. They were even two places that delivered to the house. The owners was especially kind to us during our stay. They made sure we knew every little detail there was to know about Prouts Neck. They even set up a boat ride for us to one of the small islands to see the seals. You can tell how much they love their home and they go the extra mile to make sure you do as well. You will not be disappointed if you stay here. I am so looking forward to our return!Recommended for: Romantic getaway, tourists without a car, age 55+, families with young children, sightseeing, adventure seekers, families with teenagers, girls getaway.

Convenient to both Portland to enjoy the area and also if you can fly in or out the airport which is 15 minutes away.
