Family Reunion

Guest: Sissy (Beebe, Arkansas )
Date of Stay: 05/11/12 Review Submitted: 05/16/12

Our stay at the Summitt House was awesome. It was exactly as described on the website and well suited for our large family reunion. It is one of those places that you walk into and immediately feel welcome. The beds were comfortable and there were plenty of pillows, linens, etc. to go around when it came time to bed the kids down on the futons. The game room with the pool table was a lot of fun for us, the teenagers especially as they had their own place to hang out. Watching a hang glider take off from the cliff next door behind the vistor's center was one of the highlights of our trip. Enough cannot be said about the spectacular view; it was breathtaking. The only thing I would recommend is that you think twice about planning anything here that involves small children as there is no fencing to obstruct the view and you would have to make sure they stay in the front yard; but, as we had teens this was no problem. There was plenty of room for parking. The yard was quite large and accomodated playing games, grilling, etc. I will definitely recommend this property to anyone looking for a place big enough to accomodate a large group of people.

Owner response:We are happy to accommodate large families and glad you enjoyed the Summit House. We are now installing flower beds on the lawn edge on the view side with iris and climbing rose bushes. We look forward to your stay again. Thank you, Cynthia

A Perfect Place for a Wedding Rehearsal Dinner and After Wedding Party.

Guest: Danell (Little Rock, Ar)
Date of Stay: 04/06/12 Review Submitted: 04/24/12

The Summit House was beautiful and perfect for our needs as a place for our son's rehearsal dinner and after wedding party. We had 30+ guests for the Rehearsal Dinner and 60+ for the After Dinner Party. The murals on the walls in the dinning room and the living room added to the relaxed atmosphere and gave the feeling that the spaces were much larger that they were. The cedar paneling was gorgeous. The downstairs was wheelchair accessible; however, none of the bedrooms were as they are all upstairs. Our family plans to have a family reunion here in the future. Several of our guests inquired about the house and indicated that it was such a pleasant experience that they would be leasing it in the near future.

Our son's wedding was held at the Summit House. The view is magnificent and there is a large open area on the first floor that was perfect for a large group of people. This is a wonderful house and we look forward to visiting again.

Great Place For A Wedding

My son's wedding was recently held behind the Summit House, with the spectacular view of the Arkansas River Valley spread out in the background. We had the reception in the large, beautiful living room of the Summit House and had plenty of room for everyone. This is a wonderful place and our experience could not have been better. We plan to visit again.

Annual Trip

Guest: Jonelle (Fort Smith)
Date of Stay: 07/08/11 Review Submitted: 07/11/11

Our family has held a reunion at the Summit House every year for the past four years, and my niece was married (and honeymooned) there. We've never been less than happy with the accommodations. The house is perfect for large events. It's a lovely home, it's well furnished and equipped, the surroundings are peaceful, the views are magnificent, and I'm never ready to leave. I don't know what we'd do without the Summit House for our reunions.

We were disappointed to say the least.

We were quite disappointed in what we found at your property unfortunately. The house is in a fantastic location and has an outstanding lay-out, but has been very poorly maintained. It was generally dirty, with visible dirt on the floor that could be swept up when we first arrived. Stains were on the floors, kitchen chairs, bed pillows, and walls. Mouse droppings were in the drawers throughout the house. There were plenty of beds, but not a blanket to supply every bed and we were there in January. Many furniture pieces were broken, such as the legs on one of the couches, the desk that had the sign warning visitors, the refrigerator shelf, drawers, door closures and cabinets throughout the house. And one family member described that he got an electric shock when he touched the faucet while showering in the downstairs shower (we stopped using that one after that). The carpet, the walpaper, the bathroom hardware, the pillows and mattresses...all look and feel as if they are from the 1970's-1980's. The house has the potential to be a legal problem for its owners when someone gets injurred. It was particularly disappointing that a house with such potential has been allowed to get so run down. We cannot recommend this property. The area, however, was beautiful. There was a beautiful view and great trails for hiking. The directions were accurate.

Owner response:We appreciate all reviews, positive and negative so that we can know all areas in which we are doing well or can fix anything that reflects negatively on our home and business. We strive to upkeep our homes in good, clean condition to provide the atmosphere our guests experience as can be read in the other reviews posted here and return to enjoy year after year without which we would have been out of business years ago. Three times, from the hundreds of rentals we have provided during the last 10 years, we have had clients who thought the conditions were not up to their standards and were disappointed. All three were from guests whose expectations were probably for a 5-star hotel room rather than a mountaintop vacation retreat for up to 20 people to occupy. We did most of our own housekeeping for the first 6 years until we hired housekeepers who all have done a fine job and we still do deep cleaning ourselves every 3 months. We realize after 10 years in this business that we will never be able to satisfy the expectations of every guest just like every business knows. That will never stop us from continuing to improve our home and welcoming any critical reviews. We have left some décor in original style (flocked wallpaper in a bathroom) which some guests have commented positively about. Without itemizing, we have invested over $80,000 in improvements since we bought the Summit House replacing roof, siding, carpeting, 2 new heat and air systems, all new windows and doors and are in the process of replacing interior paneling with native red cedar. We have replaced 90% of the furniture at least twice in 10 years due to damages by a very few guests. Mattresses are changed every 4 years. There were 16 extra blankets in closets for 11 beds. The desk that had the sign not to move it is an 8’ solid cherry wood antique desk over 100 years old. The fact is the guest who wrote the critique above arrived 2 hours before stated check-in time which detracted from the time housekeeping always spends cleaning and preparing for the next guest after a 7-day rental and dismissed our housekeeper early so they could access the house. Admittedly, a review such as this makes us question the wisdom of accommodating such spontaneous requests for early arrivals to access the rental property.

For many years my family has been coming here to enjoy each others company, catch up, reminanince, play music and have an auction. There are 3 generations from different life styles sharing this beautiful house, we have lots of room to share and I like the newly updated kitchen with all the appliances to cook and serve food with.

My family and I have enjoyed staying at the Summit House numerous times over the past several years. We have enjoyed the lovely accomodations and have been favorably impressed with the changes that have been made over the years. The lovely cedar on the walls in the den area gives that huge room such a cozy feel! The flooring and kitchen counter & backsplash are beautiful as well. The beautiful house is big enough to accomodate my children and grandchildren comfortably. There is always something to do on Mt. Nebo... Great hiking, beautiful scenery, (especially the sunrise and sunset), watching the hang gliders, and the abundant wildlife... We look forward to visiting the Summit House atop Mt. Nebo again and again. Thanks for sharing your lovely home there!

My husband and I spent a relaxing weekend at the Summit House. We found the Summit House to be spacious and clean. The facility is well kept and well stocked with fresh towels & linens. We went for nature walks. At sunset the view was breath-taking. We want to visit again in the summer. My huband and I truly had a wonderful time. A+

Our family reunion at the Summit House.

For many years my family has come here to enjoy each others company, catch up, to play music, have an auction and reminisce in memories. There are three generations to share their experiences in life. We all come from different life styles yet we all feel at home here every time we gather at the Summit House which is clean with beds made and clean towels under the sinks. We are proud to continue this yearly reunion tradition and can only hope that other families can let go of their busy lives for a week to do the same with their dear families. We also had a daughter get married at sunset point with a beautiful reception in this big living room of 60 feet long. They even provided the tables that fold up and store out of the way in the game room. We found silver trays and a punch bowl to serve the food we brought and didn't pay high prices for a catering service. This view is priceless and free to all that come to the Mount Nebo state park but we stay the night and watch the spectacular sunrise before any one else sees it in Arkansas. The Mount Nebo trails are every where and clearly marked to find your way home after we fine geo'cache.sites on each trail we take. Now this bonus is like treasure hunting. We hope to continue this tradition for years.

Owner response:My husband and I are glad to share our amazing home with an incredible view for the families that enjoy turn key gatherings. We are updating new featrures in our vacation home to help our guest.

Our stay at the house was one of the most relaxing times I have had. The views are incredible. We had so much fun just hanging out talking on the outdoor deck and patio. Our kids loved playing in the house, hiking on the mountain, seeing deer and hang-gliders. We definately plan to visit again. Just a perfect place - worth the drive from Dallas.

OH my where do I begin. This was the most wonderful place to get away from everything. It is the most beautiful view. The home was just that a HOME. Everywhere I turned there was things to make a person feel right at home. There were 9 of us that stayed at the Summit House Thursday through Sunday. The owners of this house have gone out of there way to make there guest feel at home. All a person needs to bring with them is food. Even if you don't want to bring food there are many places just a short distance away you can go and have a good meal. I just can't say enough about the Summit House. I'm already planning the trip for next year. We all had such a great time. We rode some of the best roads we've ever driven. The curves in the roads are so much fun especially on a motorcycle. The tristies going up Mt Nebo were awsome. Everyone with us was very satisfied with this trip. I would recomend the Summit House for any kind of gathering. From a get away for a couple to a reunion or just like we did a get away for a group of motorcycle riders. Thank You Cynthia and Daniel for sharing your home with us. We will be back, we've decided to make this a regular trip every year.

I was at Mt Nebo a month or so ago with a group of motorcycle riders I ride with. We saw "The Summit House" while we were there, and I'll have to tell you this place has the most BEAUTIFUL view. The ride up the mountain has some great twisties. I am the Secretary of the Fort Worth SCRC riding club. This is the absolute best place to ride with a group of motorcycle riders. I have a trip planned to Mt Nebo for the Spring of 2004 and we're staying at the "Summit House", I can't wait. It's a beautiful place and I am really looking forward to staying there for 3 nights and watching the sunset from the patio. I'll be sure and come back here and let you know how the stay is. Lisa
