Location: Picture 26 miles of quiet, sandy beaches, bordered by area wildlife preserves, marshes, historic ruins, and a quaint Florida town. Flagler Beach is all this and much more. Flagler is a narrow island, located between the Intracoastal Waterway and Highway A1A along the Atlantic Ocean. This idyllic seaside community has all the charm of a small town with the allure of shopping, golf, surfing, boating, and outstanding local restaurants. With no construction permitted on the beach or sand, the shores are preserved in their natural state and lined with sea oats, boardwalks, and scenic bike paths along A1A.
Flagler Beach is located just three miles east of Exit 91 off of Interstate 95. This oceanfront retreat is tucked away in the Florida coastline, but is still close enough to be convenient to area attractions. Flagler Beach is located only 70 miles from Jacksonville, 26 miles from historic St. Augustine, 17 miles from Daytona Beach, and only 70 minutes from Orlando and Disney attractions.
What more could you ask? Beautiful beaches, Flagler’s sandy coast covers over six miles of quiet, uncrowded pristine beaches with unlimited access and no traffic allowed on the beaches. These unspoiled beaches are perfect for sunbathing, leisurely walks or just enjoying the view.
History: This unspoiled Florida town was named for Henry Morrison Flagler, an area entrepreneur of the late 19th and early 20th centuries. Prior to 1970, the area grew slowly, resulting in its preserved natural environment. The first oceanfront home was built in the area in 1913 at what now is South Second Street and A1A.
Fishing: Opportunities for fishing in Flagler are limitless. The area boasts 46 varieties of fish that can be caught in 25 feet of water from the Flagler Beach Pier, which extends 844 feet into the Atlantic Ocean. Local bait and tackle shops sell or rent gear and the pier is open 24 hours a day. You can also surf fish at the ocean’s edge or launch your boat from either the county boat dock or the State Park. Keep your eyes open for snook, blues, whiting, flounder, spots, redfish, snapper, sheepshead, tarpon, and many more!
Dining: Plan to enjoy a great meal in a relaxing atmosphere after your perfect day at the beach. With great options for local cuisine, including outdoor cafes, restaurants, and pubs offering fare from sandwiches to gourmet meals, Flagler Beach has dining to delight everyone! You can also venture into nearby Palm Coast, St. Augustine, and surrounding communities for more great dining options.
Golf: What’s a vacation without a round of golf in Florida? Bring the clubs and play at one of the many local 18-hole courses in Flagler and Palm Coast. You can take advantage of some of the most challenging and scenic courses designed by Arnold Palmer, Gary Player, and Jack Nicklaus. Take a 45-minute drive north on Interstate 95 to visit the World Golf Village, with famous courses such as the King and Bear and Slammer and Squire, and stop and visit the Golf Hall of Fame.
Shopping: If shopping is your way of relaxation, there are a variety of small shops in downtown Flagler. For the serious shopper, 25 minutes north on interstate 95 is the St. Augustine outlet mall. This outlet has everything from Polo to the Peppermill. Of course, if Orlando is on your itinerary, there are many malls and outlets on International Drive to fill your fancy.
Historic St. Augustine - Take a scenic drive north on A1A and in 30 minutes you will arrive in one of the oldest cities in the United States, St. Augustine. This lovely historic retreat was the first permanent settlement in the United States. See an authentic fortress overlooking the water, Castillo de San Marcos, Ripley's Believe it or Not, Potter’s Wax Museum, and the beautiful Lightner museum. Take a stroll down St. George Street and shop in the homes of the 16th century. Eat at one of many restaurants that have a breathtaking view of the Lion’s Bridge and dotted yachts on the Intracoastal Waterway.
