Private Homes house description
Our home is on the ocean, protected by a lava wall and tide pools with an incredible 270-degree view looking north to Kailua-Kona and south to Kahalu'u Park on Keauhou Bay. Views of the ocean and gorgeous sunsets can be seen from every room in the house. The porch is a family-favorite for breakfast, lunch, reading, napping, and sunset dining. Excursion boats, deep sea fishing and snorkel boats and spinner dolphins pass directly in front of our home. During the winter months, migrating and breaching humpback whales are seen from the porch.
The upstairs has an open, full kitchen with granite counter tops and bamboo flooring which opens to a dining room and living room. Cooks in the kitchen can view the ocean and mountains while cooking. Upstairs has a master bedroom with queen bed and bath. Two bedrooms - one with king bed and the other with two double beds - are downstairs. The downstairs bedrooms share a large tiled bathroom with a huge shower with double heads. Both bedrooms open out through sliders into the garden and ocean. All three bedrooms have ocean views while lying in bed.
The most-popular picnic and snorkel beach of Kahalu'u Park is 1/2 mile south. Body surfing and surfer activities are found at White or Magic Sands Beach, 1/2 mile north. Off the front lava rocks, one can drop into the water to scuba, snorkel or kayak. Masks and snorkels, towels, boogie boards, fishing equipment, beach chairs, hammocks, portable BBQ, coolers are provided.
We have cable TV upstairs and down, as well as internet.
Our home is on a double lot on the ocean so you'll have a bit more privacy and, if you have kids, they have a grass yard to play around on.

Our experience started with exceptional communication and service from the owner. Everything about the yellow house was perfect for our family...enough bedrooms for privacy as well as great spaces for everyone to gather. The porch was our favorite! Such a special place for lasting memories:-)

Hate to rain on other reviews, not sure we even stayed in the same house that they did, but other than the grand view from the lanai and the house being well stocked and clean, it was otherwise a disappointment. 1) Their ad does not state that 2 of the 3 bdrm's are downstairs and you have to go outside, open a padlock to gain entrance. Once downstairs, you are unable to sleep with sliding doors open for a breeze as the screens do not lock. It was 86-87 every day for the 2 weeks we were there. I called the owner and he told me to go to Target, buy a fan and he would reimburse. No $ yet. 2) Be careful using the shower downstairs. It’s a great shower, but it has slick ceramic file and it slopes toward the drain. I wrenched my knee in this shower and spent 1 day using ice. 3) The slider upstairs is old and doesn’t have a lock. There are holes drilled through both doors with a pin to insert to keep it locked. Upon our arrival, the pin was broken and we used a small screwdriver to stick through the hole to lock . house while gone 4) Ceiling fan in living room is so old, the finish has come off it it, the fan blades. are bowed doward from humidity, and is not useful 5) The ad says you can see the mountains and ocean from inside the house. This is partially true. To see mountain, look past the guardrail, highway, and peek above . the treeline 6).The bdrm upstairs is noisy for sleeping esp. weekends, because of traffic. Owner told me otherwise when I asked about noise. 7) The window frames in living room are rotting away due to “humidity” as well. as is the underneath part of the sill on the outside of this window ( 8 Paint is peeling from the ceiling in upstairs bathroom. The upstairs toilet had no wax seal and moves freely on the floor. If you don’t put it in exact spot, There is slight sewage smell. I could show/tell more, but this is more than enough. I would only advise you that sometimes things aren’t as they appear to be. P.S. One of the boards on the lanai is loose, so be careful.

This house was fantastic... the view was amazing, there was a rockpool at the end of the garden for our four-year old to play in--it worked for everyone in our family. And the beds are comfy too! The owners went the extra mile, providing detailed instructions on where to find everything, and guidebooks in the house helped us work out what to do in the area. Would recommend it to anyone travelling to Kona. A perfect holiday.

This charming home has tons of personality and history. It was very clean and extremely well organized with tons of books, notes, and brochures documenting everything you would want to know about the local area (activities, shopping, sightseeing etc) and the island as a whole. It is completely stocked with everything you may need to enjoy your stay on the island. The only thing you need to bring is your clothes. They have bikes, snorkeling gear, kayak, beach toys and bags not to mention all amenities if you just want to stay home and enjoy the oceanside sounds and views of the whales and dolphins that we saw on our first night upon arrival. We thoroughly enjoyed our stay. The home was warm and welcoming and felt very private despite being conveniently located on Ali'i drive. We would highly recommend it to anyone.

Sue, What a great place you have in Kona! We loved the location. It was tucked away on a scenic road with many wonderful amenities. We ate every meal on your porch enjoying the view. With the grocery store only a mile away and a well stocked pantry, we grilled out four times. Who would want to leave although we did take advantage of the sites which were easy driving distances. We loved climbing on the rocks and we enjoyed the view and breeze from the hammocks. You provided such great "play equipment" that we did not have to buy anything. This is clearly a home that is well loved and much enjoyed. Having you as our personal consultant allowed us to make the most of our time. We knew where to go and what to do and made use of your marked guide book. We had the most relaxing and enjoyable vacation we have had in years. You can be sure that we will recommend your wonderful yellow house to our friends. Mahalo, Anne

Owner response: Aloha Anne, How wonderful that you and your husband enjoyed our yellow and white home on the water in the same fashion a our family: grilling, walking out on the lava flow to the tide pools, and making full use of our full pantry to simplify your meal planning. On your next vacation here in Kona, perhaps you will enjoy taking out our two stand-up paddle boards or two-man kayak to explore the coastline. The Big Island awaits you or your friends' next visit. This home is a family gem which in turn made our family vacation back to the Big Island a wonderful time. Situated between Magic Sands and Kahalu'u Park is the perfect walk. The deck was used the most. Sitting and listening to the ocean at any hour is a perfect way to unwind. Completely furnished including basic staples for most meals. A large lot gives you that complete private feeling you are looking for when renting on a vacation. Everything you need for a day trip is located downstairs; snorkeling, beach sitting, beach towels, boogy boards; kayaking, coolers, etc and very easy to locate. I will be back and I will highly recommend to those who want the ocean, its view and beautiful music off your front deck. Taking in the tide pools out front every day was another way to enjoy the blue Pacific and the pleasure it gives you. The owners were magnificent with their history of their home and location, their recommendations for day trips, and information in the Keauhou and Kailua Kona areas, along with the entire Big Island. If you want Hawaii delivered in the manner of how it should be (slow and relaxing), rent this home. After a couple of days you feel like you are at home!

Owner response: Though we the owners have been coming to the Big Island for over 50 years, we have never lacked for a new trail to explore, especially up Pololu Valley, an old sugar cane village to photograph along the Hamakua coastline or a new friendly face to befriend inside the Farmer's Market in downtown Kailua-Kona. Each year the villages and dwellings along the Coffee Road and to the north in Hawi and Honoka'a become more even more charming as they are restored to their original character.
Perfect vacation spot!
Perfect vacation spot!
We thoroughly enjoyed our week in this perfect vacation home. The house is conveniently located to town and beaches but also feels very private because it sits below street level directly at the water's edge. Cocktails and sunset dinners on the porch after long hours at the beach or exploring the island completed our days. This is a great vacation spot, and we hope to return soon!

Owner response: Our guests can spend their entire day watching the waves flow into the tide pools or the excursion boats slowing down to follow the spinner dolphins which pass the house. Next time you return, Mary, you'll love visiting the Honokohau -Kaloko Fishponds. It's adjacent to the boat harbor and only 8 miles north of our home. The water is so quiet for paddling on a standing board. Along this lovely beach are scads of turtles munching on grasses. The beach south of harbor and fishponds is Alula or Crescent Beach. Divers come to spot spinner dolphin, eagle and manta rays, plus lots of butterfly and goat fish.
