Location: Private Homes, Kailua-Kona, Kona Coast, Big Island, Hawaii, USA (12 miles south airport along the oceanside of Alii Drive,) View Map
Accommodations: House, 3 Bedrooms + No additional sleeping rooms avail, 2 Baths (Sleeps 6)
Our home is set out on a lava promontory at the water's edge with an incredible 270-degree view looking north to Kailua-Kona and south to Kahalu'u Park on Keauhou Bay. Views of the ocean and gorgeous sunsets can be seen from every room in the house. The porch is a family-favorite for breakfast, lunch, reading, napping, and sunset dining. Excursion boats, deep sea fishing and snorkel boats and spinner dolphins pass directly in front of our home. During the winter months, migrating and breaching humpback whales are seen from the porch.
The upstairs has an open, full kitchen with granite counter tops and bamboo flooring which opens to a dining room and living room. Cooks in the kitchen can view the ocean and mountains while cooking. Upstairs has a master bedroom with queen bed and bath. Two bedrooms - one with king bed and the other with two double beds - are downstairs. The downstairs bedrooms share a large tiled bathroom with a huge shower with double heads. Both bedrooms open out through sliders into the garden and ocean. All three bedrooms have ocean views while lying in bed.
The most-popular picnic and snorkel beach of Kahalu'u Park is 1/2 mile south. Body surfing and surfer activities are found at White or Magic Sands Beach, 1/2 mile north. Off the front lava rocks, one can drop into the water to scuba, snorkel or kayak. Masks and snorkels, towels, boogie boards, fishing equipment, beach chairs, hammocks, portable BBQ, coolers are provided.

This home is a family gem which in turn made our family vacation back to the Big Island a wonderful time. Situated between Magic Sands and Kahalu'u Park is the perfect walk. The deck was used the most. Sitting and listening to the ocean at any hour is a perfect way to unwind. Completely furnished including basic staples for most meals. A large lot gives you that complete private feeling you are looking for when renting on a vacation. Everything you need for a day trip is located downstairs; snorkeling, beach sitting, beach towels, boogy boards; kayaking, coolers, etc and very easy to locate. I will be back and I will highly recommend to those who want the ocean, its view and beautiful music off your front deck. Taking in the tide pools out front every day was another way to enjoy the blue Pacific and the pleasure it gives you. The owners were magnificent with their history of their home and location, their recommendations for day trips, and information in the Keauhou and Kailua Kona areas, along with the entire Big Island. If you want Hawaii delivered in the manner of how it should be (slow and relaxing), rent this home. After a couple of days you feel like you are at home!
Owner response:Though we the owners have been coming to the Big Island for over 50 years, we have never lacked for a new trail to explore, especially up Pololu Valley, an old sugar cane village to photograph along the Hamakua coastline or a new friendly face to befriend inside the Farmer's Market in downtown Kailua-Kona. Each year the villages and dwellings along the Coffee Road and to the north in Hawi and Honoka'a become more even more charming as they are restored to their original character.
Recommended for:Girls getaway, families with teenagers, adventure seekers, romantic getaway, age 55+, tourists without a car, sightseeing.
Perfect vacation spot!

We thoroughly enjoyed our week in this perfect vacation home. The house is conveniently located to town and beaches but also feels very private because it sits below street level directly at the water's edge. Cocktails and sunset dinners on the porch after long hours at the beach or exploring the island completed our days. This is a great vacation spot, and we hope to return soon!
Owner response:Our guests can spend their entire day watching the waves flow into the tide pools or the excursion boats slowing down to follow the spinner dolphins which pass the house. Next time you return, Mary, you'll love visiting the Honokohau -Kaloko Fishponds. It's adjacent to the boat harbor and only 8 miles north of our home. The water is so quiet for paddling on a standing board. Along this lovely beach are scads of turtles munching on grasses. The beach south of harbor and fishponds is Alula or Crescent Beach. Divers come to spot spinner dolphin, eagle and manta rays, plus lots of butterfly and goat fish.
Recommended for:Girls getaway, adventure seekers, romantic getaway, age 55+, sightseeing.
