Tucked in amongst palms, magnolias and oaks in world famous “Old Grayton Beach” sits Casa Sombra, a beautiful architect designed retreat for the discriminating beach traveler. This “shady house” is a stunning home located in historic Old Grayton Beach about 300 yards from the white, sugar sandy beaches of the Gulf of Mexico and the assortment of shops and restaurants that make up the funky and eclectic Grayton Beach.
This beach house is beautifully decorated with lots of local, colorful artwork to excite the senses and stimulate the imagination. It has its own private pool, that can be heated, and an outdoor fireplace set amongst the indigenous tropical vegetation. Two identical master suites, one on each level, have access to their own outdoor porches overlooking the pool area.
There are four bedrooms with an additional space set aside for a daybed off the upstairs game room (children only). The bedrooms include two kings, a queen, a pair of bunk beds, and a day bed, sleeping 11 people total. Sorry, no pets are allowed and there is no smoking.
The house has an elegant, spacious feel with high ceilings, complimented with ceiling fans and specially designed lighting to accent key spaces and the colorful artwork. Heart pine floors adorn the major living areas and the kitchen is equipped with Wolf and Subzero appliances and the finest cookware for even the most accomplished chef. Casa Sombra also has surround sound stereo speakers located throughout the house, and also outside speakers in the back of the house overlooking the pool.
There is plenty of space to move about with almost 3,000 square feet of interior space and an additional 1,400 square feet of covered porches for outdoor living. From the upstairs porch, there are tranquil views of Western Lake. Ample terrace space is provided for comfortable pool lounging. Two families can easily enjoy the house, yet maintain their own measured degree of privacy.
Bordered by two state parks, one which includes Western Lake, an excellent natural preserve for kayaking, fishing and crabbing, Grayton Beach has long been recognized as one of the finest beaches in the world. The town of Grayton Beach, founded in 1890, is one of the oldest planned beach communities in Florida’s gulf coast and has been recognized by Florida’s Governor and Cabinet as a Florida “treasure”.
Located on Highway 30A, between Destin and Panama City Beach, there is plenty to do within a short distance. Shopping, amusement parks, several superb golf courses, tennis, fishing, and other water sports are all close by as are many excellent restaurants. Bring or rent bikes and enjoy the bike trail that links the nearby coastal communities of Seaside, Watercolor, Seagrove and Rosemary Beach.
We book our house Saturday to Saturday during the weekly peak spring break and summer periods. Additional charges include: Pool heating- $35/day or $180/week, Gas for outdoor fireplace- $20/day or $120/week.

Welcome to Casa Sombra (House in the Shade), our home in Old Grayton Beach! We just finished building Casa Sombra in May 2009, and are excited to be a part of the Grayton Beach community. Our children (22, 20, and 14) grew up on the beaches of Grayton, so we highly recommend it, especially for families with children. There is so much to do from crabbing on the beaches and in Western Lake, skim boarding, or just being lazy on the beach. We do hope you can find time to visit us soon!

A Thanksgiving to Remember

We just spent our first Thanksgiving ever away from home at Casa Sombra at Grayton Beach. We felt very "at home" in this wonderful beach house. We've always thought we had to stay right on the beach and always have until this trip. This wonderful home is tucked away in the trees at the end of a quiet street just a short walk to the beach and we loved it! The kitchen/dining/living area is all open for great family time with plenty of room for all 11 of us. The beds are super comfortable in nice sized bedrooms with lovely bath areas. The backyard with heated pool and fireplaces was a nice oasis after a day at the beach. The kitchen is the best stocked kitchen we've ever had at a rental house, and we've stayed in a lot of places over the years. Grayton Beach is one of our favorite places to stay. It's perfectly located between Blue Mountain and Watercolor, Seaside, and Rosemary Beach. You're tucked away in a quaint, peaceful beach community that has one of the largest and best beaches around not to mention a lake in which to canoe or kayak. The owners are super to deal with and take great care of their guests. I highly recommend this lovely place to stay in and I guarantee you we won't be looking for any other houses now that we have found Casa Sombra!
Recommended for:Romantic getaway, tourists without a car, sightseeing, girls getaway, age 55+, families with young children, families with teenagers.

We just returned from a week-long stay at Casa Sombra. We were delighted from the minute we pulled the rental car into the driveway, as the property is perhaps the nicest one in Grayton Beach. The layout of the kitchen, family and dining room is perfect for a big family. There are so many places to "go" withint the house that there was enough privacy for the six of us and some to spare. The house is equipped with everyone you will need for your stay already. The pool is so private and well maintained. We would and have recommended this to anyone. Finally, if you appreciate home decor, this house is stacked!

We stayed at the Casa Sambra the week of July 12-19, 2009. The place was awesome. I had booked the house in Feb. before it was even built. It surpassed our expectations. We really enjoyed the privacy of being at the end of the road. The pool being just a few steps out the back door was awesome. We even had several fires in the outdoor fireplace complete with s'mores. The beach was everything the owner said, uncrowded, very wide, and beautiful white sands all just a short walk away. I only have good things to say about this property. We had 11 people staying and everyone had plenty of room. The house itself was beautiful and so very comfortable and well equipped. Can't wait to return! Thanks again, Julia for everything.
