Luxury Beachfront Home Near Great Barrier Reef
Year Purchased: 2002
Why the Owner Chose Cairns
We bought the beach home while exploring Australia as a tourist. We fell in love with Australia and its people and decided to have a second home along the beach of the Coral Sea. We have had the home 7 years and love it there more each visit. It is just a few steps from the home to miles of sandy beach. We fell in love with the beauty and the sounds of the sea, ocean breeze through the palms and the singing of the many birds of Australia.
The Unique Benefits at this House
We enjoy being right on the beach of the Coral Sea and hearing the ocean sounds throughout the home. The view of the Sea from the home is just spectacular. We enjoy the luxury of the large 6 bedroom home with expansive entertainment space, large swimming pool between the home and the beach in the topical garden atmosphere. We enjoy being just a few minutes from some of Australia's most desirable attractions including the Great Barrier Reef, tropical animal zoo, Aboriginal Cultural Center, Tropical Rain Forrest, casinos, restaurants and the night life of Cairns City and nearby resorts.

We had the absolute pleasure of staying in this home for 1 week during the Christmas holidays. The home was beyond our expectations, it was exactly like being at home, everything was there for your useage, even a garlic press. The home is situated only about 10 minutes to the airport as well as about 10 minutes from downtown Cairns. Not far from the rainforest a well as great barrier reef cruises. The home is absolutely gorgeous, the location is overlooking the Coral Sea, a wonderful sight during sunrise and sunsets. We will definitely come back for another visit. During our month long stay in Australia/Fiji this was our favorite spot. Thanks for sharing this home with our family. The hosts for this home Lex and Jenny were so friendly and so very helpful, they made us feel like family. The sadest part was leaving this Heaven on Earth. Cheers the Schwartzentruber family

We had a fantastic time at your home!!! We really didn't want to leave, and I think that was about the best week of our trip! The location was great, close to the beach, close to the grocery store, and a couple of restaurants close by.We did quite a few day trips around the area, we rented a car & driving was not a problem. In the house there was everything we needed and more, towels, blow dryer, and even beach towels. The detailed instructions on how to use everything was really appreciated. We used the swimming pool daily, and the barbeque was well used also. Thanks so much for providing such a fantastic home at such a great price!!! Jenny was so wonderful, meeting us when we got to the house, and checking in with us later in the week to make sure everything was OK. She also gave us lots of tips on what to do and see. All in all, the home exceeded our expectations and we would highly recommend it! Theresa & Darren, Rocky Mtn. House, Alberta, Canada

My husband and I stayed at this lovely home for 8 days. The photo's show the beauty of the property and the location was exactly as stated. The home was very well equipped and clean. We really enjoyed the area, beach and the local restaurants were excellent. We did not bring a computer, nor did we rent a vehicle. We took the bus everywhere and it worked for us. We truly relaxed ,enjoyed the pool and in the late afternoons we spent hours upstairs looking at the ocean and hearing the birds sing, we would highly recommend this property, thank you Gary and Helen for sharing your"Paradise in Cairns". Thank you Jenny for all the calls and picking us up at the airport. We hope to return. Ian and Nancy

Lots of room, clean inside, spacious yards, excellent pool area, and steps from the beach. Watching the sunrise over the ocean every morning from the second story lanai a treat. This house located across the beach. There is a small park with huts, tables and benches. Restaurants, pizzeria and a lovely coffee/bakery shop around the corner of the house that makes freshly baked scones and freshly brewed coffee. You can go outside by water sit, relax and sip your coffee. At night you can hear the lapping of the waves from your bedroom. No need for TV in the bedroom so you can soak in the lovely sound of the waves. 4 of 6 bedrooms can access the veranda. You can sit on the lounge chair and watch the sunrise. It's lovely and breath taking. I am not an early riser but I did not want to miss the experience. Walk down the beach for a good morning cardio exercise. Smells fresh in the morning .The house is very cozy well maintained. It is very clean and everything was well provided for our needs from soap to kitchen utensils and condiments, easy internet access and even brochures for your activities, books and magazines to read. As you enter the house there's a large foyer with the spiral staircase and a lovely chandelier. The house has an open feeling with a large tv in the living room. There were game board you can use located in the other living room. Near Cairns and not too far if you plan visiting Port Douglas. We are so grateful for accommodating us. You made it possible for us to create lovely memories for our family. We will definitely recommend you to our family and friends. Thank you so much Gary and Helen. All the best to both of you and your family. Anil and Maria

Large, modern, clean, well-equiped house, with enough space to provide privacy. Great location next to the beach in a small, quiet Cairns suburb. The location is convenient - it's only 15 min. from the airport and was a great hub for us to explore the area (Cape Tribulation to Atherton Tableland to Great Barrier Reef to points South of Cairns). Our teenagers loved the pool, the wireless internet and the proximity to the beach. The kitchen with basics for cooking and the barbeque were helpful. We would recommend this to our friends.

My family of four (including two children, ages 12 and 10) stayed here for ten days in Sept/Oct of 2010. We are living in Auckland but are from the Midwest in the US and wanted to see the Great Barrier Reef while it's so accessible. We chose this home because it was not in the thick of the touristy, busy, loud areas in Cairns and were so happy that we did. Cairns was an easy drive away if we wanted to be there, but in a quiet residential neighborhood, right across the street from a gorgeous, postcard perfect beach when we didn't want to deal with being in town. The pool is gorgeous and a decent size. My kids spent hours and hours in there, and so did we, actually as it was very warm while we were there. It felt great to jump in. The house is very, very well-equipped with all kitchen items and towels, games, books, a nice new TV, etc. Each room has its own A/C unit and they really keep the bedrooms nice and cool on the hot steamy nights when you've had about enough of the humidity. Met and fished with a couple of the neighbors who were just delightful and enjoyed mango smoothies and scones from Strait on the Beach every single morning. They also have wonderful full breakfasts if you're looking for more. Some restaurants we loved in the area were Adelfia Greek restaurant in Cairns, Piccolo Cucina in Cairns, and both Nunu and Portobello in Palm Cove. We typically stay fairly busy on vacations with exploring and taking day trips here and there, but we found that we were so relaxed at the house between the pool and the beach, that we really didn't feel like venturing much further. We did go out to the reef twice to snorkel, of course, but what a great spot we had with the house. Loved it!

We are in the last week of a one month stay at the house and have had a fantastic time. This home is beautiful and has everything you need for a short stay or extended stay. Four of the bedrooms have access to the veranda upstairs to enjoy your coffee and sunrise every morning and listening to the waves crash on the beach will lull you to sleep every night. There is very little traffic around the house and the neighbors are quiet. The beach is just steps away from the house and my husband and I got to run every morning on the beach. There is a playground for the kids nearby as well. My children spent many hours in the saltwater pool at the house. The restaurants in holloways beach close early so there is not much night life in holloways but the drive into cairns is only 10 to 15 minutes. Groceries, movie rentals, snacks and liquor stores are close by too. I would recommend this house for familys looking to vacation in and around cairns. it is located close to all the major attractions in the area. The house is kept clean by a crew once a week and Jenny was always there if we had any questions or concerns. Jenny meet us at the airport and got us familiar with the house and area. Enjoy your stay at Holloways beach...its a little peace of paradise.

Our family's experience with this house was extraordinary. The property is immaculate and spacious, and so close to the beach that we could hear the waves meet the shore as we fell off to sleep. The house was great, with a large and well equipped kitchen and more rooms than we could occupy as a family of five people (parents and three adult children.) The location just outside Cairns was perfect for day trips to Port Douglas, the rain forest at Daintree, and boat trips to the Great Barrier Reef. The host/caretaker couple were friendly and eager to help (as all Australians seem to be!) and available for advice about the area and the little questions we had about the property, appliances, etc. Our correspondence with the owners was always pleasant and replies were quick and fair. It seems we should be able to balance this glowing report with something that needed improvement, but we're at a loss to be critical. Sure, it would have been nice to pay a little less for the five days we were there, but when we calculated what three hotel rooms would cost it was about the same, and no hotel would offer the comfort and convenience of such a property. We must have saved hundreds of dollars by preparing meals at "home" each day (there's a grill for fresh fish or kangaroo meat!) versus going to restaurants, a necessity if staying at a hotel, so all in all it even worked out financially well for us. This is a great property which we recommend without qualification or hesitation! Book it now and you won't regret it.

Our family of 5 stayed at the above property from July 18,2009-July24. This rental was wonderful from the time I booked it online the owners corresponded with me via e-mail and every aspect of the booking and final result was accurate. The description of the property, the layout, amenities, we could not have asked for better service. We were met at the airport by their host couple and driven to the home where we were provided with instructions on the use of the property. It was very clean and very well maintained. It had the comfort of our own home but in Australia and more luxurious. We have traveled extensively and prefer to stay in a home or condo instead of a hotel and this was one of the nicest we have stayed in. The home has six very comfortable bedrooms four of them overlook the Coral Sea. You have a spectacular view of the sunrise when you awake every morning with a beautiful view all day long. The pool is an added bonus as you have a beautiful beach across the street that goes on forever. Our favorite thing to do every morning was to walk or run the beach. You are 10 minutes from the airport and about 15 minutes from the city and mountains where there are unlimited things to do Some of our favorite things were the reef cruises, Passions of Paradise was the best! We did 2 of them so we were able to compare. Green Island seems to be the most advertised but it does not go out as far in the Barrier reef so the colors and the marine life are not as spectacular and It is a good walk to the beach from the boat. It has a hotel on the island which changes the flavor of the experience. We took the Kuranda railway and skyrail which was also a wonderful day trip. The small village of Kuranda has wonderful shopping and restaurants. The Mango smoothies are great there! We also took a day trip into the mountains called the tablelands found a place called Granite Gorge outside of Atherton. We spent a good part of the afternoon there. It is a result of a glacier of years past and has wild wallabies living among the rocks with swimming holes and waterfalls. The wallabies are adorable and very approachable, they eat out of your hands! I can't say enough wonderful things about this property, It was so convenient to everything we wanted to do and we could also relax given the choice. I only wish we had more time to spend there! The closeness of the city of Cairns was great also and there are some great shopping and restaurants there.
