1BR Luxury Apartment Central London Next Tower Bridge and City
Year Purchased: 1999
Why the Owner Chose City of London
I have lived in the block, Java Wharf, and walked to work in the City since 1992. It is difficult to imagine a nicer and more historic walk to work in London, particularly passing the stone walls of the Tower of London as the early morning sunshine shows the relief of the stonework. Reflecting upon it's central location and the historic Shad Thames area, with it's multitude of bars and restaurants, I realised that it also offered an ideal location for visitors to London, either those with business in the City, or, just as importantly, tourists seeking get the most out of their stay.
The Unique Benefits at this Apartment
If you enjoy walking you need never use public transport and visit almost all the major tourist sights of London! The apartment is 100m from the River Thames and the Thames River Path is the artery that can take you all the way to the West End in 1 1/2 hours. One of the most attractive, scenic and historic walks in London. Along the way you will have passed Tower Bridge, the Tower of London,St Katherine's Dock, Borough Food Market, Clink Prison, Vinopolis Wine Encounter, Shakespeare's Globe Theatre, Tate Modern art gallery, St Paul's Cathedral, the London Eye ferris wheel, the Royal Festival Hall and South Bank Arts Centre theatres galleries and cultural centre, the Houses of Parliament.

Cobbled streets, brick warehouses with names like The Tea House and Cardamon House, the Thames a block away, inviting shops and delis, quiet enough to hear yourself think, state-of-the art TV and stereo, a library of entertaining DVD's and music for adults and children, leather sofas, fine kitchen, everything spotlessly clean, attentive but non-intrusive landlord, helpful concierge . . . I didn't want to go home. The photos don't capture the ambience and atmosphere. This place is deluxe and daylight streams in from the big window and balcony doors. I always felt safe in the building and in the neighborhood. I know, London is known for its safety, but feeling it is different. I loved walking along the Thames or through the ancient streets to The Globe Theater, The Tate Modern, Southwark Cathedral and the Farmer's Market, or the urban areas teeming with Indian food or dim sum or whatever we wanted. Or we'd walk across the Tower Bridge and be at the tube station in 15—20 minutes (I don't stride like my 20-year-old son.) The landlord was terrific, his restaurant guidance spot-on. On the negative side, the phone inexplicably and unpredictably gave out during calls, and lacking two-way ventilation, the apartment got a little stuffy so when we returned there, we opened the windows. We were running around most of the time, settling my son in his dorm for his junior year abroad, so one of my favorite memories is sitting at the far end of the living room on the lovely bed beside the big mullioned window and reading one of the myriad books about London that line the bookshelves. It was quiet, and the streets uncrowded. I could think and try and imagine the working docks of the not-too-distant past. Previously I'd only stayed in Mayfair and Bloomsbury and I relished the atmosphere of the uncrowded alleys and warehouses turned into living spaces. And instead of a park, the river offers its fresh air and wild currents. Heavenly.

Great apartment!! Excellent Location! We stayed here for a week in May 2010. The spacious apartment looks better than it does in the photos and comes complete with everything one needs for a stress free stay. The full size kitchen (Yes, 4 burners) came complete with condiments like cooking oil and salt and pepper, coffee, tea, condiments etc. There were plenty of cleaning supplies and garbage bags along with linens and toilet paper. We did not have to buy anything for the apartment for the week. The owner lives in the building and was readily available but we did not require anything for the apartment. He did provide some local knowledge concerning getting around on the underground and good restaurants nearby, which was very helpful and saved us time and money. The area is fantastic with every type of restaurant, bar, and grocery available in almost every price range. You are a 5 minute walk to the famous Tower Bridge! Again, the owner was very helpful with his suggestions. The apartment tended to be almost too comfortable, and we ended up staying in at night a couple times because it was nice just to hang out in the neighborhood instead of always rushing about. Great place, great location and best of all we felt great value. We would stay here again.
