Explore Cape San Blas...one of America's last unspoiled seashores located on Florida's Gulf Coast, 45 miles west of Panama City, between Port St. Joe and sleepy Appalachicola. Of recent geologic age, the Cape is a narrow spit 17 miles long, averaging 1000 feet in width. St., Joseph's Bay, abundant in marine life and ten miles at its widest point, separates the Cape from the mainland.

"Sea Dune" our 2 bedroom vacation rental was brand new in '97, built by the owner (a retired builder) sits atop a wooded, white sand dune...built extra high for a commanding view of the Gulf and Cape greenery (Note: the home is NOT right on the beach...there are some homes between us & the beach). The property is 300 feet (one minute walk) from the private beach. "Sea Dune" has been designed to harmonize with its surroundings. The lot is wooded and affords a good deal of privacy. The interior is comfortable with open areas and colors that reflect the sea and sky.

SEA DUNE / CAPE SAN BLAS RAMBLINGS
The beach is about 300 feet (one minute walk) from the property is often described as sugar white. It is clean and private with natural vegetation. The area is very safe and family oriented. Leave your belongings on the beach and no worry. The beach is the sugar white sand that the Panhandle is famous for and the water quality is good and appears emerald green most of the time.

Walking in the wooded dunes is a real treat. It is very enjoyable to visit the State Park and hike out toward the tip of the Cape taking the path along the bay. If you're quiet, you will usually come upon groups of small Cape deer. The beach at the St Joseph's State Park was twice voted "most beautiful in the U.S." by Dr Beach's/USA Today's annual rating. That beach is 2 miles north of Sea Dune...essentially a continuation of the same beach except at the State Park, where, in the absence of any development, the dunes remain in their natural state...in some places up to 30 feet high.

There are no bars, motels, game rooms etc on the Cape and traffic is limited to people renting homes, state park visitors and service folks. Cape San Blas development is still limited and has plenty of open areas for meandering.

You can fish right on the beach in front of the house and usually catch some whiting and the occasional flounder. Sometimes there are numerous blue crabs. The best fishing is at an area called the "stumps" about two miles South of the house. Look for the rock barrier wall on the gulf side...that's where it is. It's also fun to take a boat out into the bay where the fishing is also very good. Boat rentals are available at Presnell's Marina (between the Cape & Port St. Joe.

The bay is great for snorkeling. There are areas in the State Park (further out on the Cape) that are shallow... where you can walk out waist deep, then lay down to snorkel. At Sea Dune, the Cape is only 900 feet wide. From the Cape back to the mainland it is ten miles across the bay at its widest point so you are really "out in the water".

From Sea Dune's driveway, you walk 200 feet to the main road, turn right, then about 350 feet to the "Tradin' Post", a folksy convenience store. For a supermarket, the closest would be in Port St Joe, about ten minutes drive. The new Piggly Wiggly is quite modern with deli. Port St Joe is on the rise with a new upscale direction... because of the new, ultra-upscale "WindMark" community being built next door.

For shopping, antiques and many excellent restaurants, it's about 20 minutes to Appalachicola to the east, a sleepy one-time cotton port that time forgot... wiht its quaint homes nestled in old sub-tropical neighborhoods. There are a number of good restaurants... we recommend "The Hut" for excellent seafood...not at all fancy, but a table by the bay and stuffed flounder like you've never tasted.

When the weather is favorable, we like to sleep with all the windows open (Sea Dune has twelve windows and one sliding door). Listen to the waves and feel the breeze... There is nothing quite like it! Stroll out onto the deck late at night and look up; you will be amazed at all the stars in night sky.
