About Garland Park:
Dog-friendly Garland Ranch Regional Park in Carmel Valley is a popular spot for leisure hiking. Breathtaking views lie around every corner of this 4,462-acre park, with trails varying from easy to strenuous. Notable features at Garland Ranch Regional Park include the Carmel River, Garzas Creek, a redwood canyon and a charming waterfall. Historic buildings dot Garland Ranch Regional Park, allowing visitors to experience Carmel Valley as it once was.
This park is home to a variety of landscapes that occur at elevations from 200 to 2000 feet. From the willow covered banks of the Carmel River through the cottonwood-sycamore stands of the old floodplain. Atop the northern crest of the Santa Lucia Mountains, the trails encounter open oak savannas and spectacular vistas. Along the way, you will travel through maple-filled canyons, dense oak woodlands, and thick stands of chaparral. Garzas Creek gently bisects the park and provides a peaceful, shaded trail that reaches a secluded side canyon of redwoods.
Throughout the park there are reminders of Carmel Valley's past: Rumsen Indian habitation sites; homestead, hunting and logging remains; livestock trails, ponds and springs; and Rancho Don Juan.
Day use activities include hiking, photography, horseback riding, jogging, walking, bird watching, painting and simple solitude, and limited mountain bike riding in the Cooper Ranch area.

Pictures can never do justice to this exquisite property. Views from the extensive deck with hot tub are breathtaking. Because our grandchildren are excellent swimmers, we were looking for a great pool. This 55 ft. heated (86 degrees) pool did not disappoint. The push button cover made life easy. The landscaping, including herb garden was lush and well-maintained. Inside, the spacious rooms were all in a row so each room opened onto the deck. The kitchen was well-organized with high end appliances. Lots of toys, board games and baby equipment for the little ones. A mall with grocery store was several minutes away. Great wineries. Enjoyed Il Fornaio and Anton and Michel restaurants in town as part of the wedding arrangements. Also, you can't beat lunch at the Lodge at Pebble Beach for relaxation. Many thanks to Larry for answering all questions promptly. Would love to return.Recommended for: Families with young children, age 55+.

We recently rented this property for a vacation with our son (age 7), my wife's brother and his two children (9 & 5) and my wife's parents (in their 70's and 80's). It made for an incredibly relaxed and restorative vacation. There was so much for the kids to do... the pool occupied much of their time, but there were so many games in the living room, nobody ever wanted for something to do. The house itself is lovely, with a large dining table and open kitchen and a wide deck that runs the length of the house. The bedrooms were spacious and light-filled... there's nothing quite so great as waking to the light filtering through the early morning fog! The house is very well maintained, but in a way that makes you feel comfortable, not like you are living in a museum. We felt very much at home here. The pool is enormous, and was just the perfect temperature--warm enough to make swimming under the clear, cool night sky a pleasure, while still being comfortable under the mid-day sun. The views, however, are the real selling point here.... Carmel Valley lays before you as you sip your morning coffee (or evening cocktail) on the deck. It's a magnificent sight at any time of day. The owners were very easy to deal with, provided prompt answers to our questions, and provided thorough and helpful guidance on how to best enjoy our stay. They also provided great suggestions of things to see and do in the area, but frankly, we rarely left--the house was just perfect for our needs! I have already recommended this property to friends, and will do so again. The kids are already asking when we can go back to "our house" in Carmel Valley, and I hope we will be able to do so soon.Recommended for: Sightseeing, families with young children, romantic getaway, age 55+, families with teenagers.

My husband and I already loved CV for many reasons including weather, location, food and accessibility. This house could not be in a more perfect location and we enjoyed every minute we were there. Hiking from your back door, Sand Dollar and Carmel beaches, the incredible pool and hot tub are just some of the reasons to stay here. Oh, and don't forget RG Burgers and Cafe Rustica when you don't feel like cooking! I have already recommended it to 2 families who I also think would enjoy it.Recommended for: Sightseeing, girls getaway, families with young children, pet owners, adventure seekers, romantic getaway, families with teenagers.

Owner info
Year Purchased: 2003
About the owner: We have three young children and live in San Francsisco. Our three young girls love visting our home in Carmel Valley, swimming in our pool (see picture of Christina and two of our girls enjoying our pool in 2010) and swinging from our rope swing or just playing one of our many board games.
Why the Owner Chose Carmel Valley:
We purchased our 10 acre parcel home in Carmel Valley in the summer of 2003 primarily to find a home close to San Francisco which enjoyed warmer summer weather but also permitted us to conveniently get to the beach, shops and restaurants of Carmel by the Sea and Monterey. We rebuilt the home in 2007 and 2008 and continue to landscape the property.
The Unique Benefits at this House:
Our family loves our hikes directly in Garland Park with miles of trails, vistas and wildlife.
Our extra large 50+ feet swimming pool with views into Carmel Valley is unique permitting great family play or lap swimming. The remote feeling and natural setting yet only 10 minutes from a local Safeway, great wineries, golf courses, and restaurants is the best of both worlds.
