Magnificent view of ocean and sunsets right from your deck. St. John is beautiful. The beaches are warm, sunny, and close by. The island itself is 2/3 National park. The people...friendly, calm and wonderful.
If you love water and beaches, and want ultra-comfortable accommodations with lots of amenities, yet look forward to an active lifestyle including individual water sports, fishing, sailing, as well as hiking and exploring, in a venue with many restaurants ranging from the pizza/burger and brew/BBQ level to the finest gourmet restaurants with extensive wine lists, where everything is casual, and where the dollar is the currency ... This Is the Place.
You can walk into town for breakfast (it is a good workout, as part of the walk is a steep hill, though my wife and I, both 62 walk it at least daily both ways), enjoy a wonderful buffet the equal of the most extensive in Las Vegas, cook for yourself, or take a jeep or taxi to the other end of the island (only 30 minutes.)

This location is easily accessible via St. Thomas and a ferry (you are eligible for a special rate door-to-door on the Westin ferry, which we recommend). St. Thomas is easy to reach via US Air, American, and Delta via non-stops from East Coast locations or by many other airlines via stops in San Juan, PR. St. Thomas is a 30-45 minute ferry from St. John (depending where you depart) and the ferry ride itself is a gorgeous trip across a short channel.
You are in the midst of and nearby to the British Virgin Islands (an easy side trip) of Jost Van Dyke, Tortola, and Virgin Gorda. There are dozens of small islands, named and unnamed, and legendary scuba and snorkeling, especially off the North Shore at famous Waterlemon Cay.
As for the accommodations, they are fabulous. Don't worry about what to pack, as everything is casual and you have a washer/dryer in the villa. Once settled in, you have all the comforts of home and the famous Westin "Heavenly Bed" will give you the sleep of a lifetime.
