The Conductors House, minutes from Whitefish with a 'middle of nowhere' feel is located on beautiful Farm To Market Road. This fully remodeled historic home once sat downtown Whitefish and housed Conductors for the Burlington Northern Railroad. Spend a night drinking wine and going through the artifacts found during the remodel. Or enjoy a soak in the restored cast iron tub that once served as a horse trough. The home has been completely rebuilt for the 21st century complete with wifi but has maintained the charm of old.
The main house has three bedrooms and a large bonus room that can be a master bedroom or living space. Beds in the main house are all pillow top mattresses and consist of 2 queens, 1 full, 1 twin and a fold out queen in the master/bonus room. The guest cabin has a pillowtop queen in the bedroom and a full in the sleeping loft. There are also couches that make for a nice place to lay your head.
The proximity to civilization is comfortable, with the resort town of Whitefish a mere 10 minutes away and Kalispell (Costco anyone?) 15 minutes away via country roads. Whitefish Mountain Resort (aka Big Mountain)is visible from the home and a short drive once in Whitefish proper. The international airport is also nearby. Glacier National Park is less than an hour away and the road to Tally Lake, the deepest lake in Montana is just around the corner, as is Kuhns Wildlife Preserve.
Recreation? Our biggest problem is deciding what to do next. Mountains, lakes, rivers and forests provide the backdrop for all types of adventures from serene to extreme. In summer this house sits in prime Mountain Bike, Road Bike and Dirt Bike territory with access to amazingly good riding right out the front door. Forty five minutes to the north is the fantastic sport climbing area of Stone Hill. Canoeing, kayaking and motorized water sports abound, and those same bodies of water provide world class flyfishing.
In winter you can cross country ski or snowshoe out the door for miles on fresh powder, or head to nearby Stillwater Lodge for fantastic groomed XC trails. Whitefish Mountain Resort is a mecca for ridiculously good snow and uncrowded slopes. Check with the owners for local knowledge. For serious backcountry skiers, the entire region from the Whitefish Range to Glacier Park is home to epic tours.
Just a note: Our neighbor enjoys shooting skeet 1/4 mile away so grab a cocktail and sit on the back deck to see if your eyes can spot the clay birds. The skeet shooting never continues for long, typically an hour or two a week. We look forward to seeing you.

My Family loved our time in Montana, it is so different than Ohio. We went to Glacier Park, Whitefish Lake, The Buffalo Reserve in Missoula and shopped downtown. If your from Ohio the Going to the Sun road can be a little scary, its not flat. The Conductors House was comfortable for our large group and the owners very helpful. We had a great trip.Did you find this review helpful? Yes | No Helpful votes: 0/0

Our extended family rented both the Conductor's House and the Guest House for four nights in July. We were were very pleased with everything! We visited on both the front and back porches (the view from the back porch is just like the picture on the website!) We shared evening meals in the large dining area. There were enough rooms for everyone (13 people aged 9 to 78 years) to have their own "space" when needed. The location was great - we went golfing, hiking in Glacier National Park, and to the beach in Whitefish. We took in the 4th of July parade in Kalispell and the Fireworks that night on Whitefish Lake. Overall, I highly recommend this property.Did you find this review helpful? Yes | No Helpful votes: 2/2

We had a wonderful Thanksgiving with four families cooking together, then some went for a mtn bike ride, others for a run and the rest on a hike, right out the front door. The Conductor's House was the perfect location for our Thanksgiving to celebrate with family and friends. Thank you so much!Did you find this review helpful? Yes | No Helpful votes: 2/2

What a fantastic location for our families to enjoy a holiday meal and sleep-over. Preparing food together, walking through the woods, and enjoying the large dining room made our Thanksgiving one to remember. Thanks Conductor's House!!Did you find this review helpful? Yes | No Helpful votes: 1/1

This house is very special to us and we are thrilled to have saved it from demolition. Friends and family have been using our home for the past 10 years and now with the complete rebuild we are excited to share it with you. Please feel free to call Pete or myself to ask questions. If the Conductors house is not right for you we may be able to steer you in the right direction. Happy Travels, Peter and Linda CostainDid you find this review helpful? Yes | No Helpful votes: 3/3

About the owner: We are an active family that loves to travel and have adventures. Dad is a trail designer and builder who is responsible for many of the bike trails in and around town. Mom is a travel nurse who patches up the family when they play to hard. The kids enjoy all things outdoors, they love this home due to its proximity to water and bike trails!
Why the Owner Chose Private Homes:
We live in town! So call us with any guestions or concerns. This home was saved from demolition when our property sold to a developer. It is the ultimate recycling project. Go green and stay with us!
The Unique Benefits at this Farmhouse:
This home sits on one acre but is surrounded by hundreds. Every window has an amazing view including the bathroom. One of our guests stated she loved brushing her teeth in the morning just to look out the window. You can follow the seasons as you watch them plant and harvest the surrounding property.
