What a gorgeous home, setting, island ... When reading the descriptions and reviews of Anchorage Aweigh as we planned for our 30th wedding aniversary our expectations were high - they were not only met but exceeded! We miss leisurely breakfasts on the balcony overlooking the bay, town of coral bay, and the church. We miss evenings by the pool, watching the stars and an evening swim. The home is spectacular, well maintained and we were comfortable just hanging out there and cooking dinners some nights with the grill and well equiped kitchen. Days were filed with beaches, hiking, snorkeling, sailing and sight-seeing. We thought that Kauaii was laid back, but Coral Bay was a couple of notches lower than that. We loved it but probably not for everyone. Skinny Legs was a great place to catch dinner, but there were several other restaurants in Coral Bay as well. Since the villa is just above the village you will definitely hear the sounds associated with daily life in Coral Bay - buses, motorcycles, music in the evening. Be prepared to adjust shower schedule if you need hot water - it's solar so it's not warm in the morning or cloudy, rainy days (at least when we were there). Didn't need the A/C much after we figured out how to turn on the ceiling fans (there is a remote). Small quirks to adjust to as you kick back in PARADISE! We definitely want to go back. ENJOY!

We could not have been more happy with our stay at Anchorage Aweigh. It is a short drive up Sea Grape Hill, which is a fun hill to drive. Look the video up on Google! Marc met us at the villa and gave us a quick rundown of information. The minute we walked in we knew we had made a great choice. The villa was fresh and clean. Everything about it was perfect, the view, the pool, the location. The owners have thought of everything you could every need. The ipod dock was great to listen to our music while sitting on the deck taking in the view, they have a complete kitchen and all the utensils that you will need to fix dinners there, as the restaurants get quite expensive eating out every night. Coral Bay is the quieter side of the island, and that is just what we wanted. There are plenty of restaurants and bars to choose from in Coral Bay. We brought hot cereals and some bagels with us to have for breakfast at the villa. Then we would head out to one of the beautiful beaches or a hike that are a short drive from the villa. After a morning/early afternoon at the beach, we came back to the villa for a shower and to relax in the pool and then out to dinner. The outdoor shower is lovely...either taking a shower during the heat of the day or under the stars. The only person I would caution is someone that has problems with stairs, as there is a steep spiral staircase that you have to go up and down to get to the bedroom. We loved it, but someone that has a problem with stairs may not. Otherwise, this villa is awesome!

My husband and I wanted to find a place that would encompass: intimacy, romance, privacy, private pool, and not too "touristy." The Anchorage Aweigh villa boasted all of our requirements and more! The listing description is very accurate and the villa is much more beautiful in person. Email communication with Marc and the owners was very easy and both provided great places to visit during our stay. Once on the island, we were met by our guide with our jeep. The kitchen was very well equipped with essentials to cook and make drinks with. The kitchen was well-appointed and had everything needed to have delicious meals every day. My husband and I ate our breakfast outdoors every morning and grilled every night. For lunch we went to Skinny Legs or drove to Cruz Bay and ate at Morgan's Mango-awesome! The outdoor shower was amazing and refreshing; our gecko and lizard friends always joined as well! The bedroom was neat and clean with plenty of towels to use. The air conditioned bedroom was a great place to retreat to each evening. Another fantastic feature of this villa is the iPod dock; we turned up the tunes and danced the evening away. No worries if you don't have an iPod, the nearby bar always had great caribbean music playing. During our stay, there was a Labor Day parade that was perfectly visible from the swimming pool! We definitely intend to return, but it will be during the cooler months as cooking in a hot kitchen is not always easy.

I am not sure what more can be added to the glowing reviews below. This home was everything we could have hoped for in a private romantic getaway to celebrate our 1st Anniversary. The home is beautifully maintained and does come with everything you will need for a perfect vacation. The backpack chairs and cooler were perfect for enjoying our favorite beaches, Maho and Salt Pond. The pool is refreshing after dinner at the convenient and fabulous restaurants just down from Seagrape Hill in Coral Bay. Our favorites being Aqua Bistro, Skinny Legs and Tourist Trap. Other great features of this home include the bedroom AC, porch lounge chairs, outdoor shower, fully stocked kitchen and medicine cabinet, ample towels, wealth of travel books about St. John and the iPod hookup upstairs. St. John is so untouched and we loved the wildlife present all around at any time of the day. The donkeys on the sides of the road, goats in the playground/soccer field below and the Sugar Birds are everywhere in our digital photos. I definitely recommend getting sugar for the bird feeder on the side of the home and watching the Sugar Birds feed in the late afternoon. Sit back and enjoy a rum drink on the porch and watch the wildlife and enjoy spectacular views. Truly the trip of a lifetime and I cannot wait to come back to St. John and always Anchorage Aweigh. Thanks for sharing this little piece of heaven Patricia and Scott!

The house was beautiful, views from all sides of the wrap around deck were spectacular...especially watching the stars at night, pool was so much fun and the view from the pool was fantastic! Sheep, chickens, donkeys and lizards all walking around wild and free! I would go back in a second! The outdoor shower was fun....look up to the sky and out a window with a view of the pool and the bay! To bad we can't have one of those in Minnesota! hahahahh!

My wife and I celebrated our honeymoon at Anchorage Aweigh, and it could not have been more perfect. The setup of the house is great. We spent every morning relaxing on the porch swing with our coffee watching the birds feed, and every late afternoon by the pool watching the sun go down over the mountains. The house has everything you need, and securing the rental was made extremely easy by the owners. The listing and photos describe the house perfectly. The home was very clean. Having the realtor guide us to the house initially was a huge help because I'm not sure we would have found it otherwise. Our favorite nearby spot for drinks and food was Aqua Bistro, but there are plenty of good places nearby. Brown Bay was a great hike and private beach setting, and it's only about 10 minutes down the road. The upstairs living area and balcony are great. The AC in the bedroom was a huge plus for sleeping. We loved the outdoor shower and the pool - just a fantastic setting. I would recommend to anyone!

Thank you for making this wonderful home available. I grade this house out at an A+. A top ten list, in no particular order: 1.) The view. It's perfect. 2.) The pool. Wonderful view, perfect. 3.) The kitchen. Nice and has everything you need. 4.) Air conditioned bedroom with the half bath. 5.) Outdoor shower with a great view. 6.) Porch with dining table, outdoor seating area, and the swing. 7.) Spiral staircase, I love 'em. 8.) Beach equipment, came in handy, thank you! 9.) Satellite TV, Wi-fi internet, and stereo/ipod hookups. 10.) Location. Proximity to Coral Bay, and it was easy to drive to the beaches. Additional: Accurate listing description. Photos are spot on. Clean and well-maintain. Owner helpful and questions answered. I recommend this house. Recommendations: Skinny Legs, Island Blues, the kitchen...all north side beaches we loved...

John Milton may have created “Paradise Lost,” but Patricia and Scott created paradise! Our two weeks at Anchorage Aweigh were sheer bliss. There’s not much we can add to the glowing (and richly deserved) comments appearing here, other to say they are totally accurate. We loved the total privacy of the villa and found ourselves spending “a day on, a day off” – that is, we’d not leave for a day, just enjoying the decks, outdoor living room, the pool and our books. The next day, it was off exploring, taking a lunch and spending time at one of the many and varied beautiful beaches of St. John. Our favorite was Jumbie, a small, isolated stretch of beach just west of Trunk Bay. (Park just off the highway -- there’s room for 6-7 cars -- and take a short hike through the woods.)One thing: you’ll never have to again spend money at an amusement park after you’ve driven on St. John. In fact, you’ve probably been on elevators that have less of an incline than many of the roads on the island (including the driveway) -- and the longest straightway we found was perhaps 15 yards long. Once you get used to it, driving there is actually kind of fun! After all is said and done, the highest recommendation we can make is to say we’re planning on coming back again and again. Thanks for making this most wonderful of times possible, Patricia and Scott!

My husband & I came to St. John and stayed at Anchorage Aweigh to celebrate our 10-year anniversary. It was an absolute dream come true. The house was perfect: private, just the right size for 2, with a spectacular view of Coral Bay and all the amenities we could wish for. We love to cook so we made good use of the gourmet kitchen and gas grill. The outdoor shower was awesome with the little window to see the harbor and the beautiful rock and shell detail. We loved the view of the Moravian Church from the second floor balcony and were delightfully surprised when the church bells rang out Sunday morning. It was really entertaining watching all the local goings-on in the town below as well as the goats in the morning and the donkeys in the afternoon from our “birds-eye” view. Sitting on the swing in the evening with a drink listening to music from Sputniks drifting up the valley to our balcony was such a treat. We swam in the gorgeous pool every morning and every evening – a very, very nice way to cool off after exploring the island. It was wonderful coming back to our own little oasis away from the hustle and bustle of Cruz Bay or the crowds at Trunk Bay. The pictures of the property are truly representative - no smoke and mirrors here. Anchorage Aweigh is a piece of heaven on earth and we are going to make this our anniversary spot for many years to come. What wonderful memories we have made and will continue make on beautiful St. John. Thank you Scott and Patricia for sharing your home on St. John with us. We absolutely loved it! P.S. We agree with the other guest who commented that it is a tough call... Should we highly recommend it or keep this little jewel quiet?... But we have to be honest and give it our highest recommmendation.

We just got back from an amazing week at Anchorage Aweigh. The villa was perfect and everything we could have wished for for our wedding week in St John. It was impossible to capture the scope of the stunning views on camera and I can't think of anything better than the outdoor shower. The kitchen was well equipped and the bedroom stunning. Lounging in/around the picture perfect pool was excellent and we had to shoo the goats away before they started eating the flowers! We loved being in Coral Bay and we'll definitely be coming back.

What a treasure! I hate to even write a review because I want to keep this little piece of heaven a secret! Everything about this place is wonderful. Very well furnished. Here's a list of things the owners are kind enough to supply; a small cooler for the beach, ice packs for the cooler, two beach chairs with shoulder straps and pouch for carrying towels etc, coffee grinder, coffee pot, one pool float, wine opener, full kitchen supplies, Wi-Fi, beach towels, and grill. I could go on and on. The property manager and the owners have thought of every detail to make your trip the best ever. Love the salt water pool! The views are so wonderful. The owners and property mgr are very helpful and will respond very quick to any questions. The place has a neat story so read their blog. Enjoy!

My husband and I stayed at Anchorage Aweigh the last week of October 2009. The villa was beautiful, with picture-perfect views of Coral Bay. It was filled with amenities like a fully appointed kitchen, air-conditioned bedroom, wraparound porches, pool and outdoor shower. The pictures hardly do justice to the beauty of the villa and surrounding views! The on-island property manager was extremely helpful in getting us settled and answering questions. Anchorage Aweigh was the perfect base for our travels around the island.

this small villa was like a home away from home for us. the pool is a perfect oasis after a day out hiking or on the beach. the owners have done a great job in furnishing the place and provide practically everything you need. getting to the house (and up the driveway!) is always an adventure in itself, and we love the quietness of coral bay. although secluded enough, we liked that there were bars and restaurants just down the hill if we felt like eating out. finally, we very much enjoyed the sounds of the wildlife around the house: frogs, birds, and even the goats grazing in the field below! we'd love to come back!
