La Bagatelle villa is a wonderfully spacious villa situated on a hillside overlooking the spectacular Piton mountains and has sweeping views of the Caribbean sea and St. Vincent. The upstairs living/dining area features one enormous 1500 sq ft floor with a pool at the far end. High peaked ceilings, cool smooth polished greenheart floors and a daybed for reading make this villa a luxury of space and style. Two large comfortable settees with blue and white Ian Mankin fabric and a large coffee table are in the middle of the living area. A romantic daybed at one end of the room and a hammock at the other end offer perfect places for reading and dreaming your cares away. There is a music CD player with a port for your i-pod or MP3 player.
Downstairs are two large bedrooms with en suite Italian tiled bathrooms. The master bedroom has a king size West Indian four poster bed, armoire and antique side tables. The bathroom is especially large and bright with a walk in closet. The second bedroom features two beautifully restored four poster beds, a queen and a double. A chaise lounge, red cedar chests of drawers and custom made mosquito nets make these bedrooms especially romantic. The bathroom has two sinks, shower, closet and a safe for valuables.
A full size tennis court with Bioflex surface is available to you and is located below the house. Rackets and balls are provided except childrens rackets not available. The 18x10 foot private pool is surrounded by bamboo and bouganvillea and has room for four pool loungers on the clay tiled terrace or in the shade under the roof.
The villa is a few minutes drive to Anse Chastanet Beach or a 10 minute walk. PADI dive facility, restaurants. Soufriere is a 7 minute drive (road is in poor condition) and there are 3 grocery stores, farmers market and plenty of fresh fruit and veg grown locally. Beer, wine, alcohol all sold in grocery stores.
Jalousie Beach resort is a 15 minute drive.
Visit the Diamond mineral baths, or New Jerusalem outdoor mineral pool, Toraille waterfall, take a plantation tour, zip line through the rain forest, order a massage at the house, climb the Piton nature trails or just relax in this private, peaceful house.
The house includes staff six days a week Monday thru Saturday, 9-3pm who will cook and clean at no extra charge. Valinda is the housekeeper who comes up at 9am - 3pm and will prepare breakfast, lunch and leave something prepared for your supper if you wish. Staff must come in at least every other day to clean. Shopping service can be arranged for a fee. Arrival meal and basic shop can be arranged.
Massages can be arranged at the house with sufficient notice. Also tennis lessons from a pro can be arranged.

The house and staff were excellent and exceeded our expectations. We rented a jeep from the airport and found the directions to the house very easy to follow. We really enjoyed having our own car - so we could drive down to the beach and other tourist sights. We asked the staff to cook us dinner on several occasions and the food was fantastic. Better and far cheaper than the restaurants in town. We also used Mystic Man (located near the police station on the dock in Soufriere) for an afternoon of snorkeling. It was great having a tennis court -- but don't assume that the person playing on the tennis court is a guest of the other house. Four mornings out of our stay, we awoke to a local and a white man playing tennis from 7:30 am - 10:00am. We assumed that the man was a guest of the other house, Tamarind. However on our last day - we learned that these men were local friends of the owner. Thus, we could have asked them to give us the tennis court or asked them to start playing a little later in the day. If you plan to use an ATM card that is not part of the CIRRUS ( such as a PLUS ATM card) -- then you will need to stop at a bank in Vieux Fort to obtain cash. You should do this before driving to Soufriere -- as the drive is about 1 hour. The ATM machines in Soufriere only take CIRRUS ATM cards.Recommended for: Families with teenagers, sightseeing, romantic getaway, families with young children, adventure seekers.

We were so lucky to be able to spend a week at La Bagatelle. It's a wonderful home, and had everything we needed for a relaxing vacation. Thanks to Valinda and the house staff, the house was neat and clean as a pin, the furnishings were beautiful and comfortable, and the kitchen well stocked. The bedrooms are very spacious and beautiful, and the beds are comfortable and surrounded by the finest mosquito netting we've ever seen. The grounds are lush and well maintained, and the tennis court is in great shape. We took advantage of the shopping service and airport pick-up. Trevor the driver was the best - he was right there at the gate waiting for us, pointed out all sorts of plants and points of interest on the way to the house, and had a wealth of information on places to go. We were a little worried about not renting a car on this trip, but realized very quickly that having a driver just a call away was extremely convenient and a lot easier on us. For us, the location was perfect, but we really like walking and I have a thing for steep hills. Soufriere was about a 10 minute car ride, or a quick water taxi ride from Anse Chastenet. We could walk down to Anse Chastenet (15 min) for snorkeling, beach lounging and lunch, then hike back up (35-45 min) to watch the sunsets. The view from this house is jaw-dropping, and none of the pictures really capture how pretty it is. And for all the privacy we had, we felt very safe as there are other villas nearby, and all the gates were very secure. As for nearby activities and restaurants, there is a ton of stuff to do, but we were so content just lounging around, playing tennis, and visiting the fish just down the road that we kind of ran out of time. Nothing seemed more compelling than sitting back with the one you love and taking in that gorgeous piton view.Recommended for: Families with teenagers, sightseeing, romantic getaway, girls getaway, adventure seekers.

To say that time here was too short is stating the obvious. This is a place of true respite - a chance to stop running and a chance to sit, listen to the birds during the day or all the glorious sounds of the night. The care provided by Valinda and Paul was luxurious - so many great meals in an immaculate setting. We are already thinking of how soon we may return to enjoy the peace and beauty of St. Lucia. Thank you Nancy for your wonderful hospitality and gift that is La Bagatelle. We hope we can meet you next time.Did you find this review helpful? Yes | No Helpful votes: 0/0

Exquisite view - elegant surroundings - excellent care and attention - it's been a memorable week! We all needed to relax and unwind, and this has been a wonderful space in which to do so! St. Lucia is very beautiful, we spent time in the north, but think the South delightful. We are grateful to Nancy for her kindness in locatin provisions for us - to Valinda for her quiet calm presence and delicious cooking - to Paul for the care of the house and pool. Thank you to you all for your thoughtfulness - it has really contributed to our sense of well being. Over it all - the majestic presence of the Pitons casting an enchantment... We hope to return!!Did you find this review helpful? Yes | No Helpful votes: 0/0

Few things in this world are as good as advertised, let alone better. La Bagatelle certainly is oneof the exceptions. From Nancy's great hospitality to Valinda's exquisite food preparation (home made ice cream, fresh bananas and Admiral Rodney rum will forever be a part of my dessert menu). We never got tired of the incredible views and must have 200 photos of the Pitons between the three of us. This was the perfect home base for the perfect getaway - leaving the rest of the world behind for a few days - although admittedly we did have to go online to follow Montreal beat Pittsburgh in game 7! Went to 20 20 Cricket on Monday, and Christine's introduction to cricket was much like my into to snorkeling - all sorts of colorful, strange looking (some more so than others) yet harmless creatures. All in all, a great time, be back soon.Did you find this review helpful? Yes | No Helpful votes: 0/0

How divine that we have been blessed with this opportunity to relax and recharge here at La Bagatelle. When my life gets hectic and my challenges are overwhelming, my time here will surely bring me back to "the Now" moment. Being here has reinforced my desire to live one day at a time. Take life as it comes one moment at a time. Holidays like this are so much moe than a sunset and a cocktail. La Bagatelle, it's beauty and the kindness of Valinda, Paul and Nancy will ground me and remain in my heart always. I particularly enjoyed the stars, the Day bed and the fact that my husband didn't have a cell phone that worked. God BlessDid you find this review helpful? Yes | No Helpful votes: 0/0

Dear Nancy, Thank you for letting us stay in your beautiful house La Bagatelle. This house truly sums up the soul of the Caribbean. Thank you also to Valinda and Annette, for your great cooking and sweet and graceful manner. I shall miss you and will never forget this spectacular place and St. Lucia. When back in gray, wintery and cold Denmark, it will be a comfort to know that there is a place like this in the world, so colorful, warm and beautiful. Thank you, and see you one day again.Did you find this review helpful? Yes | No Helpful votes: 0/0

The most spectacular terrace of any house we have ever been to. Our 16 month son was so taken with it - he started to walk the moment he set foot on it - having refused to take more than 2 steps previously. Just sitting on the terrace looking at the view was enough to make our hectic London life seem a lifetime away. A truly beautiful house - if only all holiday villas were so beautifully kept with such incredible attention to detail. Valinda & Paul are real stars - coming home after a day on the beach to Valinda's cooking was a real treat. Turning all the lights off & lying out by the pool at night and watching the stars was another treat. We will come back. Thank you, Nancy.Did you find this review helpful? Yes | No Helpful votes: 0/0

Everything about this vacation exceeded our expectations. What a breath taking view! What warm, friendly people! St. Lucia has won our hearts, and La Bagatelle made our dream honeymoon come true. Valinda's cooking - mouth watering, some of the very best we tasted! We especially enjoyed the creole chichen and banana ice cream. In town we enjoyed Camillas and Gee's Bon Mange (try the lobster!) Paul was interesting to talk with and we enjoyed the visit from Midnight the dog. In town we met Simon, aka Simon Says, who showed us all the sights and some waterfalls we would never have found. Thank you for an amazing week. We are hoping to be back soon.Did you find this review helpful? Yes | No Helpful votes: 0/0
