A little water (in the cove) would have gone a long way (Feb 2011)

We had a great time (family with children ages 9-14). The accommodations were terrific. House is spacious and well represented in the photos. Garage arcade was wonderful (many hours of playing pool, ping pong and basketball). Felt as though we were visiting a dear friend (who didn't happen to be around). We ate at Cooks BBQ and also spent a few hours at Dan Nicholas Park. High Rock Lake was drawn down 10ft - leaving the cove with no water to speak of at all. Owner had informed us that the lake would be down, but we didn't realize there would not be any water off the dock at all. We had hoped there would be at least some water for fishing and kayaking. We also found that although there were 3 TVs in the house - we could not find a way to view different channels on different TVs - all 3 TVs had to view the same channel - caused some competition in our family over TV viewing - especially since there wasn't water in the cove to amuse ourselves with. We hope the gracious owners will continue to make the house available this summer and we would like to return (assuming there is enough water in the cove) for some fishing off the dock and kayaking in the cove.
Owner response:In the month of February, ALCOA drained the lake down so that all the homeowners could work on their docks. As the tenant mentioned in the review, this information was conveyed to her before she decided to rent the lake house. I wish they would have called me so that I could have helped them with the TV situation. There are three televisions in the house but the television downstairs is independent from the television in the living room. I'm glad they had an enjoyable stay and would like to come back in July.

The house is absolutely lovely and stocked so well. It looks like a home someone lives in, not rents out. We were surprised with so many amenities...such as tissues, soap, toilet paper and shampoo...napkins, aluminum foil and plastic wrap. We've never rented a home with those things there. I know that sounds silly because they are little things but it's such a nice touch. Comfy beds, comfy furniture, lots of kids toys including lego table & play kitchen. The kids (and adults too) had a blast in the arcade (pool, ping pong, skee ball, air hockey, b-ball, fooseball, darts)! Fishing gear, kayaks & paddle boat available (and life vests!). Fire pit too. Wow! Great porches to lounge & take in beauty of the lake. Relaxing watching wildlife. It was so nice to feel away from civilization but have all the stores close by. Great bbq at Cooks, right around the corner. We were so busy with touring the area, we wished we had more time at the house. No one wanted to leave! We really enjoyed ourselves and look forward to visiting again. Owners are extremely accomodating and pleasure to rent from. Thanks for a great stay!

We stayed the weekend here. Our daughters are located in Charlotte and we wanted a place where we could enjoy the weekend and have a birthday party for our 5 year old grandson. What an awesome place! The house was super clean and the host was very accomodating. She made sure we had everything we needed to have a special weekend with our family. There is lots to do at the house including game room, fishing from the dock, and just relaxing to a gorgeous sunrise off the back deck. We are planning on making it our vacation in the summer of 2011. Thanks again for all your help!

This lake house is awesome - very well-stocked as far as linens, kitchenware, lake toys, kids' toys, etc. but what makes it even better is the attentiveness of the owners! They welcomed us to the house with a note inside, as well as a phone call and an email to ensure we were comfortable and equipped to have a great getaway weekend at the house. The surrounding houses were quiet and we loved playing in the warm lake water, mid-May. There is TONS of room in the house for quite a few people to visit comfortably! Thanks so much for a memorable weekend.

Dear Joanna, I just wanted to write you to thank you for the use of your relaxing and fun-filled house on High Rock Lake. We were amazed at the accommodations-especially adults and children spend many hours in the game room with pool table, b-ball hoop, skee ball, air hockey and fooseball. We enjoyed our time at the BBQ festival in Lexington and the southern hospitality expressed by all we came in contact with in the area. Would highly recommend this house to anyone looking to spend quality time together with lots of frun things to do.

Our family had a wonderful Labor Day weekend (2009) vacation in this lovely home on High Rock Lake. The accomodations were excellent, and our children and grandchildren enjoyed everything about the home. There were toys for young and old alike. The lake is picturesque and quiet in this cove. The fire pit was a big hit for roasting marshmallows for s'mores. We didn't feel like we were in a rental, but rather in someone's home with everything available for our use. I highly recommend this home and agree that the owners could not have been more helpful and accomodating.

We had an unbelivable time. We recommend this home to any future renters. The home is exceptionaly well equiped for kids and adults to have a great time. The view of the lake was very relaxing and we had fun building a fire to make smores. The home owners were very helpful and made the entire process of renting the home easy. We wanted to extend our vacation because we didnt want to leave. We look forward to coming back next year.

We had an AMAZING time staying at this house for my 30th birthday! We were able to sleep 14 people comfortably, and not even feel cramped at all (with the aid of an air mattress)! We loved the game room and pool table, took out the paddle boat, loved cooking in the spacious and well-equipped kitchen, and spreading out around the house for chatting and down time. It was the PERFECT place to celebrate with a group of friends and family!

We had such an amazing time at this home! The owners were so accommodating and helpful in planning our trip. The house is beautiful and the setting is fabulous. If you have kids, this is where you want to be! Don't worry about lugging a bunch of toys with you. There are all kinds of things at the house for the kids to play with. Our three-year old girls had such a blast playing in the house and going on paddle boat and canoe rides. Life vests for adults and little ones are there, too. We took a day trip to the NC zoo, and the ride was only about 45 minutes. The only bad part about our trip was leaving. Oh yes, there is also a fire pit in the backyard, so bring some wood and enjoy making s'mores!
