We had the best time at this beautiful home! It was the perfect getaway for a ladies weekend. The ladies loved that each bedroom had it's own bathroom as well. The views were beautiful and the house was well cared for. The weekend came to an end far to fast. We will defintely visit again next year. The owner was also very helpful/friendly with all of our questions and very accommodating. We also enjoyed some of the places that were on the welcome letter, especially meeting some of the locals at Buzzy's store. Thanks for a great trip!!!

We had a wonderful family Christmas at Summerlee. For my husband and I, it was a second visit. For the others it was their first. We had spoken so highly of the beach home and it certainly lived up to the high standard previously set. It had everything needed for a relaxing, family visit. There was even a set of Mexican Train Dominoes! The fireplace was delightful and the logs stacked up were wonderful! We would like to return in the Spring of Fall to enjoy the sunroom. Thanks for a memorable stay.

We enjoyed another wonderful stay at the Summerlee over the Thanksgiving holiday. The house is perfect, great layout, and everyone had their own private bath. The view from the dining area is breath taking, watching the sunrise over the water is beautiful. Our family enjoyed games in front of the fireplace, walks on the beach in search of treasures and even used the kayak’s to explore the pond. The majestic Eagles were spotted several times during our stay. Can’t say enough great things about our stay, hope to return soon!

Once we arrived at Summerlee we didn't want to leave! To sight-see, to shop, to eat out anything! We had everything we need to have an incredible weekend to celebrate a very special birthday. The kitchen was fully stocked with everything we needed. The towels and linens were well stocked. The beds were very comfortable. All very neat and tiddy.! There were bikes and kayaks. A especially helpful property manager. And, an awesome beach area for doing absolutely nothing!. Thank you for a very great place to stay! We hope to be back for a longer stay very soon!

Obviously the dilemma here is to say how wonderful this house is without making it difficult to book for future vacations because it will just continue to grow in popularity. But we have to be honest and say that this place is amazing. We rented both the house (three nights) and cottage (one of those nights). The owner has done an amazing job of creating a great vibe in the open main room with beautiful, eclectic design touches and a spacious kitchen – an ideal combination of comfort and a top notch aesthetic. Each bedroom has its own bathroom and are a great mix of comfort and design- which isn’t necessarily common in beach rentals that treat bedrooms as they're often the least important rooms of the house. And then there were thoughtful touches, like the bikes (bike helmet in the closet), the beach toys, kayaks, high-end kitchen equipment, to-do guides for the area, and Bob – the property manager who was friendly and always answered the phone when we called with random questions. And then there’s the beach. Gorgeous and right outside the door. Couldn't ask for much more...except a few more days to stay...

A Dream Come True Home

Words cannot describe the feeling you experience when you walk into this beautifully furnished, light and airy home. It is hard to understand that someone would actually rent out such a gorgeous home. We had all sorts of plans to wander into town, and dine at the great restaurants we had access to. We never, ever wanted to leave this house. We swam every day, and never saw another person on the beach the entire time we were in the water. Other than a handful of people who walked the stretch of the beach in search of shells or peace and quiet this place is very private. We cooked at home, got some live crabs (for a steal), steamed them with corn and potatoes and had our own little feast on the screened in patio with the million dollar view. I usually sleep late on vacation but got up every morning to enjoy the beautiful sunrise and sounds of the surf. The sunsets were just as amazing. I took so many pictures of the house and property and everyone back home asks the same question...."Why would someone rent out such a beautiful home with so many antiques and fine furnishings?" We are just thankful they did. Within a short walk you can catch fish (With a net), hard crabs and huge softcrabs. The splendours of the Chesapeake Bay are all within reach of totally unexperienced crabbers and fishing enthusiasts. The locals are friendly and helpful. I would recommend this home and this area to anyone from 8 - 80! It has something for everyone.

Peaceful Beach Retreat for Multiple Families!

This home was made for a multi-family beach vacation. Each (nicely appointed) bedroom has its own good-sized bathroom and is sufficiently segregated from the others to still provide some privacy. The open concept great room/kitchen has four separate seating areas that encourage family interaction and fun. Kitchen is modern, has plenty of space to cook in, and contains all the necessary spices, cooking utensils, and dishes. The relaxing and comfortable linai with a beautiful view of the ocean doubled as the adult disco at night and the perfect out-of-the-sun play area for the kids during the day. We had an absolute blast just hanging out at the house and enjoying the private beach. Although there were wineries and a state park nearby, we had no need to leave the house! Many thanks to Peggy for accommodating our group.

We had a small family vacation.The house was spectacular. We have never rented a house with so many amenities, including rentals in the Outer Banks. The location was perfect since we keep our boat at a nearby marina.We definitely will be back next year and will be looking for two rentals.

Such a beautiful spot and very comfortable house with great touches. We went for a family vacation and to celebrate our daughter's 3rd birthday and we had a fantastic time. The locals are so friendly and the park (bike ride away) is amazing! Thanks Peggy, for such a wonderful home.

This vacation rental was even better than we thought it would be. The house is nicely decorated, the floorplan is perfect for multiple groups (grandparents, single person, mom and dad with small children), and all the little details (like an LL Bean beach shelter, crabbing nets, beach toys, kayaks, etc) were the icing on the cake. We stayed for a week and had such a wonderful time, we want to make it an annual trip.

How perfect! 11 women from all over MD got together to watch the Royal Wedding. We arrived on Thursday and departed on Saturday! The beds comfortable,the decor amazing, the house enchanting, the view amazing and being able to share that with great friends....perfect! We woke up early wore our hats with great fripperies and enjoyed the company! We were even pleasantly suprized when "Kate and Wills" joined us for the weekend and even went to dinner with us!!!! This getaway has started a yearly "girls getaway" THANKS!!!! :)

After renting a house during early spring for many years in Bethany Beach, our group was delighted to have found so lovely a house, in such breathtaking setting, so close to home. We all live in St. Mary’s County, and due to family and farm obligations not everyone is always able to come on our annual retreat. This year there were more of us present than ever before, even if they could only join us during the day, or part of the time. Two women came all the way from Florida to be with us again. We had the BEST time together. We were all absolutely enchanted by the house, the location, the spectacular view, and the peaceful surroundings. Watching a pair of ospreys nest was an added treat. We never want to go anywhere else again! Thank you for being there! I hope you don't mind that I translated the previous review. It was so good, I felt it should be read in English, too. We found this house looking for a nice place to stay close to Washington. The house, as well as the location, exceeded our expectations. Every description in the ad was absolutely truthful, but we were still pleasantly surprised by the spectacular view, the tasteful décor, and the serenity. There were only two of us, but the house is well appointed for 2 couples or a large family. Maryland is usually not a preferred travel destination for Europeans, but after visits to Galleries and Museums in Philadelphia and Washington, it was perfect for us to relax for a week and explore the peaceful area with many historic highlights in St. Mary’s City and Annapolis. For Nature Lovers there are surprisingly many beautiful State Parks. The house contained plenty of good information to immediate surroundings, attractions of the area, and recommended restaurants. Contact with the landlady was always flawless. Really, the house alone would be worth a journey to the Chesapeake, and can not only be recommended to friends. Thank you, Peggy.

We stayed at Summerlee the weekend of February 25 -- 7 women for a scrapbook retreat. We have been doing these retreats three times a year for the past 4 years and this has been the BEST of them all. The house is just perfect and your every need has been anticipated. The reservation process was easy and communication with the owner very prompt. The house was clean, well stocked, excellently appointed and even more perfect than the description. We booked for our next trip before we even left the house!! Can't say enough about Summerlee.

Privacy beach on the bay that is unforgettable

This property is not only well maintained with all considerations provided, but the private beach makes you feel like you own the whole bay. The owner truly understand and appreciates her customers and it shows not only in the condition of the property but insures a pleasurable experience. We had a great time playing in the sand, swimming in the bay, crabbing nearby and letting the bay breeze blow through the house. We had waited for years to take this beach vacation and it is such a relaxing escape you will forget what day of the week it is. We have already recommended this owner and this house to our closest friends and will be returning to this house on the bay, we wish we could have stayed all summer.

We were 10 women celebrating a momentous birthday and we were thrilled with the house. The pictures are an accurate representation--the house was beautiful and cozy. Though there were 10 of us, it never felt crowded. And though there are houses on either side, it felt very private. We would all highly recommend it.

10 ladies gathered (ages late 20's to mid 50's) to just 'get away' from it all! We were all local, so the farthest travel was about 1 hour, and we had a fantastic weekend! The house is spectacular. The amenities were more than we could have ever imagined. The owners ensure that you have anything and everything from luxurious linens to fantastic toiletries! We were incredibly fortunate to have unusually warm weather for that time of the year, and we enjoyed frosty drinks on the beach while soaking up the sun! We spent our mornings watching beautiful sunrises, and searching the beach for shells and other treasures the waters brought us. We laughed until our tummies hurt, and we are planning on doing it again next year. This house is a treasure too go to let slip away!

We use VRBO all the time and are always happy, but this property is amazing. The pictures in no way do this house justice. Incredible views, personal touches. The kitchen is stocked for a chef - quality everything. It is peaceful - the perfect getaway. There were 10 ladies there for a weekend ministry retreat and we felt truly pampered. Even though we were all adults, I loved how "adult" the upstairs of the home is, yet there is that great room downstairs that is such a kid-friendly space. Several of us are planning family vacations there - easily 3 adult couples + kids. Oh yes, pocket door at the staircase for a great kid-friendly feature! Linens, pillows, firewood, candles - we were absolutely guests in someone's home. Didn't feel at all like a vacation rental. You truly can't go wrong with this property.

Wir fanden das Haus bei unserer Suche nach einer schönen Unterkunft in der Nähe Washingtons. Sowohl das Haus als auch die Lage übertrafen unsere Erwartungen. Die Angaben im Online-Inserat entsprechen voll der Realität, aber vom herrlichen Blick, der geschmackvollen Einrichtung und der Ruhe waren wir dennoch angenehm überrascht. Wir waren nur zu zweit, aber auch für zwei Paare oder eine große Familie ist das Haus gut ausgestattet. Maryland ist sicher kein bevorzugtes Reiseziel für Europäer, aber nach Kunstfreuden in Philadelphia und Washington war es für uns perfekt, eine Woche zu entspannen und die friedliche Gegend mit vielen historischen Highlights wie Mary's City und Annapolis zu erkunden. Für Naturfreunde gibt es erstaunlich viele schöne State Parks. Es gibt im Haus reichlich Informationen zur näheren Umgebung, zu Attraktionen der Gegend und zu empfehlenswerten Restaurants. Der Kontakt zur Vermieterin hat immer gut funktioniert. Das Haus an sich ist eigentlich schon die Reise an die Chesapeake Bay wert und kann nicht nur Freunden empfohlen werden. Thank you, Peggy!

A Wonderful Escape

Being from California I was not familar with Chesapeake Bay. I only knew that my wife & I wanted to be on the water and experience the eastern shores of the U.S. In surfing the web we came across vrbo.com and found what we were looking for...a beautiful home in the area of Scotland, MD. As we approached the area we immediately could feel the calming energy that surrounded us. Our expectations were met when we drove down the secluded road and found our beach house. Instead of unpacking we walked around the house and sat on the beach looking out over the Chesapeake Bay, taking it all in. An hour went by before we realized that we had not gone inside. When entering the house we felt more & more relaxed and for the next 5 days had the best vacation experience of our lives. The home was exactly how we remembered it from the photos. We walked along the shore everyday meeting the neighbors and their dogs, took short day trips to antique stores, one day to D.C. (which took less time than I thought), mostly sat on our private beach catching up on all the reading, & relaxed in front of the fire most nights (made by my wife from her scout experiences). Usually when my wife & I vacation we try to pack everything into it but this was one of the more relaxing and rewarding vacations we have ever had. We love the house and want to come back with friends to share the experience we so enjoyed. Marcus & Kathy
