Designed as a Gite', a French Country holiday cottage, this short term executive vacation home has just been renovated with all the comforts of home and all the charm of both France and Charleston. It is located South of Broad, a block from The Battery. Secluded in a lush garden, behind your own security gate, this two bedroom cottage offers quiet and seclusion while close to all the city has to offer.
Enter the home through an iron gate onto a porch overlooking a garden complete with seating, fountain, and a garden view with a stucco wall. The foyer has a soaring 20' ceiling with an iron chandelier and French iron staircase which overlooks the dining room. The dining room has a French fireplace and brick floors. 15' ceiling shows off the exposed beams. A wine cage stores your wine for the vacation.
Just off the dining room, behind leaded pane doors is a kitchen with gourmet appliances. Thermador, Fisher & Paykel, and Sub Zero are the stainless appliances. Counters are honed marble and the eating bar is Indiana Limestone. A library provides a wet bar and books and music for your relaxing evening.
The very large living room has French doors overlooking the gardens, old heart pine floors, and French Boiserie paneling. Upstairs is a sitting room, two bedrooms and two baths. The master bedroom has French doors overlooking the garden. The master bath is a "his and her" with an oversized shower, European tub, and two vanities and commodes.
The shower and vanities are marble. The other bedroom and sitting room are part of the original turn of the century cottage and have all the charm and much of the woodwork from that era.
This home has multi-levels and three sets of stairs which is unsuitable for older persons.

Lovely guest home in convenient location. My experience was quite good overall. Drawbacks include no washer/dryer, very narrow gated drive, only one tiny TV set, and fireplace was unworkable. Pluses include beautiful decorating, comfortable bed/bath, gorgeous private courtyard, terrific location for walking to everything. I'd recommend this rental for a quiet, relaxed getaway.
Owner response:Thank you for the review. We do not list a washer or dryer on our amenities list so renters are aware of this in advance before booking. There are two TVs in home (17" each). The driveway is a standard driveway width with room for up to four cars. The fireplace has gas logs. All renters have access to the instructions books on how to use the gas logs/fireplace including relighting the pilot if necessary.
Recommended for:Sightseeing.

We just stayed for 3 nights and wish we could have stayed longer. The house was great very comfortable and charming. A lot of thought went into the decorations and how to make someone feel at home. It was close enough to everything that we often did not take the car even in the high 90's. We loved just hanging out in the garden and having our morning coffee, where it was secluded and quite. When we go to Charleston next time we will see if the this house is available. The person we talked to about the house was helpful and friendly and told us everything we needed to know. We would recommend this to a friend. We did get reservations at Husk a newer restaurant and highly recommend it as a place for fine dinning. I would walk along the Battery which is only a block away and on over to East Bay and meander back through old town every morning. Great Stay keep up the house and grounds we will be back.
Recommended for:Romantic getaway, tourists without a car, sightseeing, girls getaway, age 55+.
