Etlan house description

Constructed in 2008, “Tucker’d Out” is situated on the eastern flank of the Blue Ridge Mountains near the base of Old Rag Mountain in Madison County, Virginia (right at the Madison/Rappahannock County line). The Shenandoah National Park is within view from the front porch of the cottage, and its many hiking trails and trout streams are easily accessible.

The opportunities for relaxation are abundant in this beautiful and historic part of Virginia. Whether you’re into hiking, fly-fishing, biking, dining out, antiquing, sipping wine at a nearby vineyard or simply reading a good book in a rocking chair, there’s something here for every taste.

Virginia’s most famous hike, the Saddle Trail on Old Rag, can be your morning activity, followed by dinner that evening at one of the many fine restaurants in the area - including, Thornton River Grill or Rudy's Pizza in Sperryville or the nearby Inn at Little Washington - one of the world’s finest restaurants. Or, if you want to take it a little easier, enjoy the 26 private acres that surround Tucker’d Out – complete with trails, meadows and woodlands, and have a cook-out on the property. Stocked trout streams are minutes away for fly-fishing enthusiasts. Cool swimming holes on hot summer days are another local treat. The list of opportunities for recreation and relaxation goes on and on. The owners will happily answer any questions you may have about things to do in the area.

An outdoor shower with hot and cold water has been added at Tucker'd Out. This has been a big hit with our guests!

The tranquility of these ancient mountains, with their waterfalls, overlooks and wildlife, will quickly bring you a sense of peace that will make you glad you came. Come visit Tucker’d Out soon, and let nature take its course!

My hiking buddy and I had such a nice time at Tucker'd Out. The cottage is absolutely perfect. You can tell that each room was put together with such great care, quality, and attention to every detail. It was just as fun to sit inside as it was to be doing things outdoors. I really appreciated not having to pack sheets, towels, etc. Every accommodation was at our fingertips. All the beds and furniture are extremely comfortable. I've never had such a good night's sleep! We were lucky enough to have beautiful warm weather the first day of our trip. We were shocked at how close the Old Rag parking lot was to the house, less than 5 minutes. Very convenient! It was warm enough that we could try out the outdoor shower (which is fantastic) after a long day of hiking Old Rag. The next day it snowed 6+ inches, which made for some awesome scenery surrounding the cottage. The pizza at Rudy's is the best I've ever had, and the homemade soups and salads at the corner store are perfect for taking back to the house in case of a snowstorm! We did not want to leave this wonderful place! I will most certainly be back with my family for our next vacation. Thank you, Peggy & Carter, for sharing your piece of paradise with us!

spent a long weekend here with some friends to get in some fall hiking. it was incredible! the location is excellent, so close to old rag. it was also close to skyline drive & sperryville (about 20 minutes). it was a very quiet and peaceful place to relax in the morning with coffee & bagels. then in the evening it was so cozy, snuggling in with some wine or beer to rest our weary bones. we loved grabbing pizza at rudy's in sperryville. there is also a corner store with great provisions. we plan to return again. the property is beautiful and the landscape is grand. we got to see a bear, some deer, and got in a whole lot of hiking!

Our family spent a long weekend at Tucker'd Out and enjoyed every minute. Plenty of space for our kids in the upstairs bedrooms/great room and a nice sized master downstairs for mom and dad. Kids watched deer, rabbits, frogs and turtles on the property and enjoyed the croquet and horseshoes games in the pasture. We found great food a the nearby market in Sperryville and had an excellent pizza from Rudy's Pizza, also in Sperryville. The house was very clean, well equipped and perfect - we'll be back. Owners were excellent with advice and information and provided very accurate, detailed directions.

Absolutely amazing cottage! Beautifully decorated and furnished with everything you need for a comfortable stay. Very very clean. Beds were very comfortable. Amazing views from everywhere in the home and outdoors. Wonderful front porch overlooking Old Rag Mountain. Simply amazing place. Would stay there again. Views of "Milky Way" and other constellations were amazing at 5 AM. Very dark night sky. Short distance from Old Rag Mountain if you like hiking. My husband and son in law loved hiking to the summit - (6 hour round trip up and back). We were blessed to have found this cottage and stay at this magnificent place. It was a rare find and we were so thankful for it. Made last minute arrangements and owners were so friendly and very accommdating. Would defintely recommend this place. I have never seen anything else like it. It was amazing!

We had a wonderful weekend at this lovely cottage. Just minutes from Old Rag Mountain, we were able to sleep in just a bit (a must for our teenage daughters) and still make it to the summit by lunchtime. The girls loved the upstairs and had a great time with their friends. The kitchen had everything we needed to make breakfast and the sitting room and porch were lovely. We found the ammenities to include everything we needed and will definitely plan to return soon.

Just minutes from old rag parking, this was the perfect base camp for our hiking excusions. Beautiful home with plenty of space for our family of four, perfect for hitting the trailheads bright and early. Porch perfect for relaxing at days end. Property roamed by deer, turkeys and other animals. We played games in the large window seat and enjoyed star gazing. Visited nearby vineyards, and dined in Sperryville and Culpeper. Highly recommended, whether you are there to hike or rest. We will be back!

We had a great weekend in the country! Tuckr'd out is perfectly situated at the base of Old Rag Mountain and Sharp Rock Vineyards. We hiked, grilled out and toured some of the local wineries. Tuckr'd Out is just a few years old and so clean and new. We had a great time and we will definitely be back!

My wife and I loved our weekend here. It's beautifully situated at the foot of the Old Rag and very close to Sperryville and everything from hiking trails to vineyards are nearby. The house itself is pretty, clean, and has a surprising amount of space. On top of all that the price is very reasonable, as are the friendly owners. Highly recommended.

What a wonderful experience! A cozy, warm and private cottage that offers a peaceful weekend getaway but also fresh mountain air, beautiful sunrises and the chatter of wildlife. Tucker'd Out offers privacy that you will not find at a local B&B. The outdoor shower and rockers on the porch were divine. Visit nearby Culpeper for lunch, dinner and quaint shopping. Hike all day and supper at The Thorton River Grill or the Blue Rock Inn. For casual take out Rudy's Pizza is pretty good. Peggy Carter was extremely helpful and made us feel right at home.
