Cairn Haven is our Custom Built Post and Beam home. It is located on Private and Secluded Tonche Mountain within minutes of Woodstock, NY. The mountain has three miles of private roads for walking and driving with many Wonderful Views. The house is situated on 10 very private and secluded acres, surrounded by Woods, Fields and Streams. The area is home to a variety of Wildlife and there is lots of space to stretch your legs and breathe the mountain air. We have breathtaking four season views from every room in the house.
This home is very special, with comfort and room to entertain as the focus of the design. There is lots of room for your group to spread out and plenty of room to prepare and serve large meals, while at the same time there is a feeling of coziness and comfort for smaller gatherings. We feature accommodations that are comfortable for a romantic weekend for 2 or we can accommodate up to 16 guests in four bedrooms and a loft. During the summer, we have room for another 5 guests on a sleeping porch. Cairn Haven is an ideal spot for Couples Weekends, Family Vacations, and Family Reunions. We offer the perfect setting for your intimate and special Destination Wedding.

The house has many extras: stunning Douglas Fir beams and trusts, wood cathedral ceilings, hand pegged, wide plank, hard wood floors, custom tile in both the kitchen and master bath. The newly decorated family room is a great spot to watch a movie, play a game or watch your favorite sport's team. Every room is tastefully decorated and the whole house aims to provide comfort and convenience for you and your guests.
The property is great for apple, pear, or huckleberry picking in the summer and fall and the fields are full of wildflowers. In the winter we have a great hill for sledding.
Our home is child friendly and we have a port-a-crib, gates, high chair and changing table for the babies. The master bedroom has a cathedral ceiling and a cozy gas fireplace. All three bathrooms have tubs, the master bath with a large soaking tub, double sinks, and beautiful woodwork.
There are many custom artistic touches by local craftsmen throughout the house. You are assured a special vacation in a very special location.

Why the Owner Chose Woodstock
The Pitcairn family has ties to the Catskills since the 1930's when Brant's grandfather bought Tonche and Little Tonche and built a beautiful vacation home with views of the Catskills, Ashokan Resevoir and Shawangunk Mountains. We wanted our children to experience the same connection with the woods, streams and fields that Brant enjoyed as a child so in 1998 we started designing our dream home on the mountain. As an electrician Brant had worked on a post and beam home and realized that would be the perfect type of home for the very special piece of land on the mountain that we had purchased for our future vacation home. The whole family helped build the home, working with a local builder and area craftsmen. Our builder became a friend and built us a home that was so much more than we ever dreamed of, all with the love and patience of a saint. Our children were ever present 'helpers', our two dogs companions to the crew. We would take turns working at the house while the other was at home near Philadelphia, holding down the fort. The house is a labour of love, where we had the opportunity to be included in every detail. We chose the north side location of the mountain because the property has not only woods, but fields, streams and old fruit trees. The views are very special because they include not only the majestic mountains in the background but also the fields and smaller rolling hills in the foreground.
The Unique Benefits at this Post and Beam House
We have the benefit of not only spectacular views of the Catskills but also streams to play in, apples, pears, and berries to pick, and incredible privacy. We are at the end of a dead end road that only has one other house on it. It is quiet and peaceful and wildlife abounds, from bear and deer, to turkey and pilleated woodpeckers. We have wild huckleberries, wildflowers, and the stars on a clear night are unbelievable. Lying out on the deck at night, watching the shooting stars and looking through the milky way without any light pollution is awe inspiring. Our property in also unique because it is a four season destination. No matter what time of year, there is beauty all around you, privacy and something to do, whether it is enjoying a day in Woodstock, skiing, hiking, fishing or just curling up and reading a book in front of the fire.

Brant grew up spending his summers working and playing on Tonche mountain and Pegene grew up in Orange County, a short distance away. We met in high school, near Philadelphia, started dating and married a few years later. We have 3 children, two in college and one at home. Brant is an electrician and Pegene, until recently a stay at home mom, is now persuing a career in home staging and redesign, as well as property management. Our children have grown up exploring the woods, fields and streams of the Catskill Mountains. As a family we love to travel (especially to the Catskills, Disney and the Bahamas), kayak, hike, play games and cook together. We have recently started raising chickens and put in a large raised bed vegetable garden. Our children are starting to travel abroad and persue their dreams but their hearts will always be tied to the Catskill Mountains and our beautiful home, Cairn Haven.

Pegene, We very reluctantly left your lovely home this afternoon after a wonderful time there. Our city kids were thrilled to poke around in the streams, eat apples and pears from your trees, and run around the fields. My husband and I managed to take a very nice hike up the mountain and we enjoyed the lush scenery. The cake from Pine View Bakery was a smash, and my brother-in-law, who is an amateur chef and made the dinner for my father's birthday celebration, was happy to work in such a well-stocked kitchen. Can you tell we had a simply delightful time in your home?! Thank you very much for helping my sister and I create the perfect birthday experience for our father. The F, D and L families would like to thank you very much for allowing us to stay in your beautiful home on Tonche Mountain. The house exceeded expectations and certainly satisfied our requirements. We had a thoroughly enjoyable and relaxing time, we couldn't have asked for better weather. The children loved exploring the forest and playing in stream, and we all got more than our fair share of fresh air. We thought we were able to see the stars well in Bermuda, but the night sky up in the mountains was amazing.
