Location: Kapoho, Puna District, Big Island, Hawaii, USA (Eight Miles from Pahoa Town Heading East on Rt. 132)

Accommodations:  Studio, + Convertible bed(s), 1 Bath (Sleeps 2-3)

Keywords:  Studio Cottage

Charming, completely private, large studio cottage, one thousand square feet of space with eighteen French doors that open to an O'hia forest, pretty much untouched with an array of orchids and palms just outside. The gentle tropical trade winds are fabulous.

Get in touch with Kapoho at its best. And enjoy the solitude that a five acre estate has to offer, complete with an outside shower. Minutes to Alahunui warm pond and Wai'opae crystal clear tidepools for the best snorkeling on the Big Island.

You're in for a real treat when you continue down the "Red Road" to our only "real beach", Kehena, which is a small black sand beach accessible down a short but steep trail, clothing optional. Further down you'll be able to watch the local surfers in action at Pohoiki.

Fifteen minutes into historic Pahoa, with it's eclectic shops, colorful characters and fine dinning.

Our weather is beautiful all year round. Kapoho being the dry spot on the windward side of the Big Island. With an occasional shower just to make for wonderful rainbows.

If you're looking to relax in totally private solitude and enjoy nature, this is the place for you.

Perfect Place!

Guest: Jerry (Seattle)
Date of Stay: 12/07/11 Review Submitted: 01/22/12

This was my second stay at Rose’s cottage and it was everything I expected. The farmers markets (Fri and Sunday) and the roadside vendors are great places to pickup fresh fruit and vegetables - 5 papayas for $1! Several new ocean accesses off the Red Rd were discovered – there are some spectacular waves - especially down the Lighthouse Rd. Volcanoes NP is a short drive and makes a perfect day trip – there is a lot to see. The tide pools are just a few minutes away and have the best snorkeling on the Big Island. Rose – thanks for a great time – am looking forward to returning next season.

This is a very special place owned by a very special person. Just going back on this web site brings back so many beautiful memories from our stay - the charm of the cottage certainly added its huge share. Suffice to say, that apart from the volcano, the cottage was our most photographed object on the island ! Mahalo Rosie for your hospitality !!!

Wonderful quiet place

Guest: MGM (Langley, WA)
Date of Stay: 04/26/11 Review Submitted: 05/05/11

Wonderful quiet place to stay! Airy, open, and clearn place in a secluded and secure setting. Lush vegetation with orchids and other tropical plants. Lovely sounds of birds and frogs. About 45 minutes drive from Hilo. Near beaches and a thermal pond. Rose is very friendly and helpful. A great place to relax and just “be” but not far from things to see and do when you’re so inclined. Would be best for couples or singles.

Enchanting Botanical Garden Retreat

Guest: GG (San Francisco, CA)
Date of Stay: 04/15/11 Review Submitted: 04/23/11

This garden cottage is beautifully appointed. For city dwellers needing a place to get away from the madding crowd it's tops. In the dry belt, close to the rain forest, you are surrounded by woods landscaped with palms, orchids and plumeria, to name a few. The property is clean and well cared for. The four ten-foot wide doors open on both sides to let in the ocean breeze. The birds sing during the day, and the frogs serenade you to sleep at night. The owner is a long time resident who knows the island and is happy to share. A hop skip and jump from the Ahalanui Warm Pond and the Kapoho Tide Pools makes it the perfect location, secluded but close enough to enjoy the best of this side of the Island. It is an inspirational hideaway where you can go write your novel, or have a romantic interlude. It is truly a retreat - who needs a spa? I hope to return once a year to de-stress in luxury.

Date of Stay: 01/06/11 Review Submitted: 01/26/11

This was the most wonderful place to stay, the cottage is very clean with the most wonderfull landscape, close to hot ponds and tide pools that were great for snorkling, The owner was very helpfull with everything we wanted to see and even told us of places we would have not know about, the cottage was fully supplied all the way down to snorkle equipment, law chairs, cooler and much more. Would recommend the cottage to any one planing on staying on the Big Island. Thanks for every thing, best trip ever.

Kapoho Cottage

Guest: Jerry (Seattle)
Date of Stay: 11/22/10 Review Submitted: 12/01/10

Rose – thanks for the opportunity to stay in the cottage. The open-air setting is like living in a tropical garden. Your knowledge of the area was a big help. The close access to the current lava flow at Kalapana was exactly what I was looking for – got some great photos. With the tide pools and numerous shoreline accesses there was always some new place to explore. The weather was great the whole time. For anyone wanting to escape the elbow-to-elbow tourism of the Kona side this is the place to be. My only regret is that I did not stay longer. Am already making plans for next year. Aloha Jerry

Owner response:ALOHA, MY KAPOHO COTTAGE IS EXACTLY THE PLACE TO STAY IF YOU DO NOT WANT NEIGHBORS RIGHT NEXT DOOR. LOCATED ON A GATED FIVE ACRE PROPERTY.THE OPEN-AIR SETTING IS PERFECT FOR THE NATURE LOVERS AT HEART. THE COTTAGE OPENS WITH FRENCH DOORS TO THE BOTANICAL GARDEN AND OHI'A FOREST OUTSIDE. VERY CLOSE TO EVERYTHING YOU WILL WANT TO EXPLORE ON THE EAST SIDE OF THE BIG ISLAND.

Rose, Thank you for the wonderful stay in your lovely cottage. We treasure the time we are having as we discuss new places and new faces during our visit. It's hard to believe our stay is coming to an end this week. We'll miss the peaceful setting, the frog song and the fresh air. Thank you for making this place available! We are feeling oh so good, Pam and John

What a great place you have. Thoroughly enjoyed this open air feeling, tropical botancial atmosphere, stars at night and your generous hospitality. I hope to come back to your place again and spend more leisurely time on this side of the Big Island. Aloha and Mahalo, Randy
