Birchmere Lodge is a year round lakeside retreat that was renovated extensively in 2006. The home feels and looks like new. Sleeping arrangements consist of three bedrooms, each with private bath. The two rooms on the second floor have queen size beds, while the other bedroom on the main floor off the living room has a full size bed. All have five star Anichini linens to further increase your rest and relaxation.
We love all four seasons here. The summer offers wonderful swimming from the dock, walking, biking, and running around the lake, hiking trails out the back door, fishing, canoeing, kayaking, and first class golf just a mile down the road. We do not have a motorboat, but there is a boat launch a quarter mile from our house and a boat could be parked at our dock. There are no jet skis allowed on Lake Morey. The 4th of July fireworks over the lake are a treat to watch from the dock or canoe.
The fall brings brilliant Vermont colors and misty mornings with Loon calls echoing across the lake. Bald Eagles and Peregrine Falcons can be seen in this valley, as well as the more common loons, ducks, turtles, herons, and other water fowl. We have often used this as a writing retreat. The light reflecting off the lake and the sound of the water lapping against the shore offers wonderful inspiration. The screened porch provides a tranquil spot to read the paper in the morning or to watch a rainstorm pass through.
Winter offers ice skating and cross country skiing, with snowmobiling just down the road and downhill skiing 20 minutes away at the Dartmouth Skiway. Killington Mountain is just a little over an hour away, Burke Mountain about 45 minutes, and Sugarbush, Mad River, and Stowe about an hour and fifteen minutes away.
Lake Morey is 5 miles in circumference, large enough for great water skiing but small enough to walk and run around. The town of Fairlee is a small, quintessential Vermont town with a general store, ice cream stand, diner, and multiple antique shops. The drive-in movie theater down the road is one of Fairleeās great claims to fame. Within a few miles are various dining options, and if you are willing to drive 20 minutes to the Dartmouth College campus you will find a number of entertainment options including movies, art, live music, theater, and guest speakers.
We do not have a DVD player, but we have wireless internet, satellite TV, and shelves full of books. We also have a kayak, canoe, and bike for your use. The gas grill on the porch is ideal for summer evenings.
Please note that there are roughly a dozen stairs from the parking area down to the house, and then another dozen or so from the house down to the water. If stairs are a problem this should be taken into consideration.
*We require a 5 night minimum stay.*
