My wife and I rented this home for two weeks, and it was every bit as good as advertised. In many ways, better. The home is spacious, airy, clean, charming, and convenient. It is an older home -- 100+ years -- but it has all the comforts and amenities you could want. Not just the big stuff, like central air, a washer and dryer, and a gorgeous stone patio, but little things like a second fridge in the garage and -- get this -- a coffee grinder. To be fair, some items are a little quirky, like windows that need propping up, but the owners have taken care of that, too. The age of the home is certainly a major part of its appeal, and it shouldn't dissuade anyone except the fussiest renters. The town is quiet; very, very quiet. People in Little Compton generally keep to themselves, and you'll find only a few restaurants and only one bar in town. Don't expect night life in this part of Rhode Island -- although Newport is a manageable +/- 30-minute drive away. Two adjoining beaches (South Shore and Goosewing) are open to the public, and a short drive of approximately five minutes from the house. A semi-private beach at the end of Round Pond Road is reachable only by bicycle or on foot, but is absolutely idyllic. And that's only about three miles from the house. The owners, Jeanne and Bob, were exceptionally helpful in every way, too. It's a great place, in a beautiful, restful community. Go there instead for beautiful beaches, great bicycling, and gorgeous, New England, farmland-meets-the-sea scenery.

Recommended for: Families with young children, age 55+, girls getaway.
We rented this house for a week at the end of October, and were delighted with it. The area around Little Compton is charming, and even off-season there was plenty to do...wineries, lovely walks in the quiet countryside, immaculate vast lawns surrounded by old, beautiful stone walls. The house has a view of the water to the west, with great sunsets. We were more than pleased with the house...it is comfortably furnished, and feels more like visiting a friend's place than a rental. Quality linens, comfortable beds, well-equipped kitchen. The bedrooms are upstairs, and the main level has both a large livingroom and a large sunroom (my 85yo mother slept there comfortably, because she doesn't do stairs). The local owner's rep was fantastic to work with...she even brought us over matches, kindling, and firewood for the fireplace when a huge storm blew in! I highly recommend this rental!

We are looking forward to returning to our new found serenity. The home is filled with light and yet there are no sounds. Drive down a delightful road happen upon this tranquil setting with a view of the ocean. The home is well cared for and spacious. Hope you enjoy it as much as we did.

About the owner: The Frank family has roots in Southern California and the East Coast... spending summer vacations in Little Compton for six years before buying this charming 'fixer' with great potential in 1993 and beginning a renovation which continues to keep Jeanne busy. Bob still teaches at UCLA School of Medicine.
Why the Owner Chose Little Compton:
It doesn't get any better than this --- a charming house situated on an acre of land with a view of the ocean. It is filled with memories of family dinners, children racing around the lawn, friends gathered around the barbecue and quiet moments in the yard watching the sun go down over the ocean, with Newport in the distance. New heating/air conditioning upstairs and down. New upstairs bath with large tiled shower. This year we added a stonewall patio off the dining room with an umbrella-covered table that seats eight.
The Unique Benefits at this House:
Here you will find peace and quiet.... a place to truly relax and enjoy family. Yet you are surrounded by many historic towns that are fun to explore....Newport, Bristol and New Bedford to name but a few. Adventure awaits.
