April weather is beautiful

Guest: MN-Travlelers (Burnsville, MN)
Date of Stay: 04/01/12 Review Submitted: 05/11/12

We rented this casita for the month of April, 2012. It is a very spacious home in a quiet community. It is well furnished, equipped and maintained. The shaded patio was wonderful for sitting outside anytime of day. Kathy is a wonderful host and since she lives in the area is available should any questions arise. She has accumulated a lot of information in a notebook about the area, where to eat, what to see and where to golf. We played golf at the Univerity of NM at a reasonable senior rate and enjoyed it very much. The view from the casita at night overlooking the city lights is beautiful.

Our 4th visit to the Casita and planning our 5th in 2012

Spending time on the back patio of the casita, it's easy to see why New Mexico is called the "Land of Enchantment". We love this place! This is the perfect vacation rental for those who truly want to get away and see God's handy work. Some of the sunrises and sunsets we have seen during our visits have left us in awe. The Organ mountains provide a stunning backdrop to the city of Las Cruces. At night, the lights of the city sparkle in the distance, and you have the perfect vantage point to see it all from the casita. Kathy is a wonderful host, and will do everything possible to make your stay a memorable one. Southwestern New Mexico has many things to see and do. One little known fact is that New Mexico has a growing and thriving wine industry. Yet, each time we come back we find ourselves spending more time in the casita. Kathy has made it such a peaceful and inviting place to stay.

Owner response:Thank you so much for providing another aspect of interest to our lovely New Mexico area. Since you are such a oenophile, I get all my selections from you. You will be pleased to learn a new tasting/restaurant has opened near Mesilla, across from St. Clair Bistro. Till next time, Kathy

Perfect home base for exploring the area

Guest: Dan and Sue (Phoenix, Arizona)
Date of Stay: 05/23/10 Review Submitted: 06/09/10

This casita starts out with good bones: high ceilings, skylights, lots of space, a garage, incredible views and 3 patios to choose from! Kathy makes it special with Southwest style, comfortable furniture and everything you could possibly need while away from home. The kitchen is fully equipped, there is a book library, dvd movies, music cds, a computer station with internet access, and maps and tourist info for the area, Even flashlights on the night stands and candles in the holders. This casita is better than the photos can portray. It is very well maintained and super clean. It faces a tee box and putting green of the community's golf course which provides entertainment watching golfers play. But the big attraction is the view of the Organ Mountains from the back patio day and night. It is spectacular; and we found ourselves sitting out there morning and night whenever we were "home". Kathy helped get us settled and told us everything we needed to know about the casita and the local area. She provided current newspaper reviews of food and entertainment which was so helpful to get us off to a good start our very first day. We explored South, East and North. Who knew White Sands could be so interesting? Or good wineries were close by? Or local pecans were so good? We loved the little town of Mesilla and the drive through all the green farmland to get there. Just in that small area we ate at the famous La Posta and the Double Eagle, and had coffee and breakfast at the great coffee shop called the Bean. All of these were good and not to be missed. We also enjoyed Chope's mexican food in La Mesa. The hike to Dripping Springs was really a scenic walk with the reward of old resort ruins at the top. We enjoyed music at the Black Box Theatre and the downtown Farmers Market. There is plenty to do and see and this casita is in a great location to enjoy it all. We would recommend staying here to others and will stay here again ourselves when future travel brings us to the area.

Great Home Away From Home

Guest: Roach's (Wisconsin)

What we like about Kathy’s Casita: the gorgeous and unobstructed view of the mountains; the distant twinkling lights of the valley at night; the mainly quiet access streets with no through traffic in the Casitas; the European village atmosphere of the Casitas complex; being a gated community without a gate; the distance but not remoteness from the traffic and shopping of Cruces; the careful attention to details and keeping everything up to date by Kathy; la dolce vita.

We spent 6 weeks in your home Kathy and felt it was truly ours. Your home and the view are absolutely spectacular and so peaceful. Very seldom are things exactly as presented and we were so thrilled to find everything even better than it looks in the photos. Thank you and we are looking forward to our 2010 stay.

Thanks Kathy for another delightful stay! We had several great hikes: Picacho Peak, Baylor Pass, Dripping Springs, "A" Mountain and Soledad Canyon. We also visited The Chile Institute at NMSU and found out about 2 more great restaurants: Andeles and The Double Eagle. Karchner Caverns was awesome! Cowboy Days at The Farm and Ranch Heritage Museum was a blast. Hope to return soon.

We stayed at this casita for the month of November 2008. It is difficult to add to what already has been said in previous comments. The unit is exceptionally well-equipped and the view is unbeatable, both day and night. Kathy gave us a warm welcome and provided a great deal of information on the area, both verbally and in prepared and organized written material. In our opinion, no one can go wrong by staying here. We thoroughly enjoyed our month-long visit.

We stayed at the casita for 10 wonderful days. Everything we could possibly want was there. It was very comfortable and well equiped. There was a beautiful view from the patio and a very nice pool near by. We don't golf but because of the location I wish that we did. We did watch a couple of rabbits investigate the green from the patio while having our morning coffee. Thank you Kathy, for a very enjoyable stay. Julie, Nancy and Larry

We spent January and February 2008 at the Casita; we had a wonderful time. All the positive remarks that are mentioned in the previous comments are seconded by us. It's a great location, comfortable and well equipped, and Kathy is a terrific hostess. The gorgeous views of the Organ Mountains at sunrise and sunset are forever a part of our Las Cruces memory bank. We feel very fortunate to have found this gem and hope to return often. Thanks, Kathy.

Sometimes promotional descriptions can be....well, misleading. Not this time. The casita itself (as described by Kathy) its location and surrounding area, all surpassed our expectations. The casita is clean, bright, comfortable, quiet and well- equipped. Kathy is a great host. She makes sure you are comfortable and provides well-organized information packages of the local and surrounding areas. If you enjoy golf, Kathy arranges for you to golf at the private course right outside your door. Both the sunrise over the Organ Mountains and the city lights in the evening are beautiful sights from the patio. We very much enjoyed out stay.

Thank you for such a wonderful and beautiful place to stay. The views were endless. Kathy's kindness and overwhelming beautiful personality made the stay much more enjoyable. She met us at "The Casita" and explained where everything was located. She even had her son-in-law from Ohio call me to help me get my computer started. Because of Kathy, we were able to get our most memorable "five generations" picture taken and put in the Las Cruces Sun News. Thanks Kathy

Owner response:Actually my son-in-law lives in Park City, Utah. He is proud of Utah, so I had to correct where he lives--no small item to him. Thanks for the great comments, from a lovely family.

After a few hours in the home, I commented that the owner really went out of her way to make you feel at home with lots of lovely touches and great attention to detail. The home is very comfortable and clean. We especially enjoyed the lovely patio area and spent many hours out there. But most of all we enjoyed viewing the valley, mountains, city lights, and sunrise from the patio and the Master Bedroom. I would recommend this home to anyone and we plan to return another time.

We are a couple of healthy middle aged, upper-middle income, picky mid-westerners from Northeast Ohio who have stayed in a lot of really nice places over the years. I have booked a few places that oversold and exaggerated. So, we a little jaded and somewhat skeptical whenever we book a vacation place. . If anything we where overwhelmed with the fantastic experience here at the Las Casitas. Kathy could not have been a better hostess. We where impressed the moment we walked in the front door. It was a pleasure walking into large open rooms with high ceilings, sky lights and a great view of the Organ Mountains. Every bedroom has a walk-out to a patio. The kitchen was unbelievably well equipped with utensils, spices, condiments, towel and whatever I needed to cook. Although there are so many fun restaurant and things going on in Las Cruces that we didn’t cook as much as we thought we might. The office has access to high-speed internet, so I was able to do a little work. We really HATED TO LEAVE and want to come back soon. The place is booked far in advance so don’t hesitate. (Maybe we should leave some negative comments so too many people don’t find this gem. We’d like to keep to ourselves.)

Our first rental experience and it was fabulous. The house is very clean, spacious, and well appointed. The views are breathtaking. We were awakened every morning with the sun rising over the Organ Mountains, and we loved sitting on the patio in the evening to watch the sunsets reflected on the Mountains. We hiked, biked, walked along the Rio Grande, toured museums, and loved the Pink Store in Mexico. We really liked that the owner was here to greet us and also available to answer questions when needed. Unbelievable month. Can't wait to return!

We sold our home in Aug. and have been house hunting in the AZ/NM area. We stayed in Las Cruces for one week at Kathy's home and enjoyed every minute! Kathy is a fantastic host and was very helpful in leaving literature and making suggestions on shopping, area wineries, etc. She could probably charge twice her price and get it. The views after dark of Las Cruces are awesome! Views of the valley and Organ Mtns. during the day also incredible! Her home is nice and spacious and very quiet and peaceful. She was nice enough to let us bring our 3 small yorkies, which we greatly appreciated. If you're looking for a peaceful, relaxing week or two...or month...this is the home to rent! And Las Cruces is the area to get away from city congestion and noise. Thanks, Kathy! -Ed and Elsie O'Connor

Kathy is a pristine hostess, providing you with everything you need including books and magazines, etc. She is straight forward and very fair in her business dealings, all in all, IT DOESNT GET ANY BETTER THAN THIS! The casita was a WONDERFUL place to stay while in Las Cruces. We loved the beds, the interior decorating, the patios, and the furniture. Kathy was a most gracious host, and with her well organized book, we were able to see and do lots of things during our month long stay at the casita. We felt very comfortable calling Kathy if we even wanted her to recommend a restaurant to eat at! We loved sitting on the patio and watching the city lights at night and the mountains during the day. The kitchen was so well equipped, and I did LOTS of cooking in it. The neighbors we met at the pool were very nice too. We know now after our great stay at the casita that we want to retire to Las Cruces!

have read the previous positive comments and agree with all of them. The owner is highly organized and the Casita shows it. It is worth making a few additional comments, however. The Casita has large, gracious living areas with wonderful views. One of the pleasant surprises was the abundance of light throughout. The windows facing east from the main bedroom provide both a spectacular view of the valley and mountains beyond and the numerous high windows and skylights spread light through all of the living areas. The owner has provided for everything one might want. Even common condiments were present in the kitchen. A small library of paperback books is provided for your enjoyment. A thorough loose leaf book contains information on all of the nearby attractions (and in typical southwestern fashion that includes some in Arizona) A separate book collects all of the details for daily living – when the trash is picked up, where to leave the keys on departure, etc. Finally, and by no means least, we enjoyed the excellent interior decorations. There are a number of interesting photographic displays of the area and many art objects displayed on the shelves. We stayed for a week earlier this month and the best recommendation we can give is that we have arranged a month long return visit for late fall.Peg and Riley Schaeffer, Boulder, Colorado
