Our Stay in Girona

My family [2 adults, 2 children] spent one week at Can Vespa this summer. The apartment was amazing. It was a little difficult to find upon arriving in Girona. The narrow one way streets in Girona can be challenging. Brigit was very kind and meet us in Girona and led us to the apartment. We loved the veranda at the apartment, where we ate breakfast and had a glass of wine in the evening. Girona was a great location to visit Barcelona [an easy walk from the apartment to the train station] and the Costa Brava [we visited several beautiful beachs that were 1/2 hour drive from Girona]. One highlight of our trip involved renting mountain bikes from David at Bike Breaks [very close to the apartment]. David was really helpful and provided trail maps and advice on suitable routes for us [my 10 year old son was biking as well]. The bike trails around Girona are well marked and plentiful. You can bike down to the Sea [about 50km] have a swim and take the bus back [or bike back]. We would also recommend a visit to the Theatre-Museum Dali in Figueres, Spain. Thanks again Brigit.

good location, basic appartment

We enjoyed Girona and its surroundings for a week. The appartment has a great location and is really situated nicely in the old town with a great variety of restaurants on minutes walking distance. And that is needed because the kitchen is really very basic equipped. One small pan and some frying pans; impossible to cook dinner but even not easy if you want to boil an egg and make tea for breakfast. The master bedroom is spacious, the second bedroom however is really small and fully packed with a single bed and a bunk bed. It's really cramped. I would suggest the owners to get rid of the single bed to be able to open the cupboard and use the van. We used the sofabed in the living room instead to have more air and less heat! Again location is great, price is right, but with a few amendments, like maybe good chairs for 4 people on the terrace, and some more stuff in the kitchen it would gain comfort quickly.

We had a fantastic vacation in Spain, and were completely happy that we'd chosen Can Vespa as our home base. The apartment is roomy and comfortable, and the location is just perfect situated within walking distance of most of the nicest spots in Girona. A fifteen minute walk gets you to the train station where you can easily catch the regular trains to Barcelona and Figueres (Dali museum). Can Vespa really felt like home. Brigit and Jaume are always available to offer advice or help, but never intrusive. We would recommend it to anyone who is considering a vacation in this part of Spain, and we would stay thre again without hesitation if we decide to come back to the area for another visit.

This was our second stay at Can Vespa; liked it so much we had to return for a second year. The apartment is spacious, charming and extremely well-located. We had friends stay with us and they loved it as well. A few steps and you're in the heart of the old town. The owners are wonderful; very helpful but not intrusive. You can't ask for a better place to explore Girona, the Costa Brava, the Vias Verdes (bike paths). And GIrons itself, which is a delightful city. Highly recommended!

A Great Refuge

This apartment is very large, with 2BR and a nice patio facing west, whereupon one can sit and enjoy a quiet breakfast or an evening glass of wine. The area is away from traffic (you have a few stairs to climb up the street to the house) and is very quiet, a welcome refuge from Barcelona. We were, unfortunately, not well for many of our 12 days, having picked up a bug in the south, but this was a good place to be unwell - we could sit in the LR or on the patio, and just relax and rest after a couple of hours exploring Girona, without feeling confined. Jaume and Brigit were friendly and solicitous, but unobtrusive. The historical town surrounds this place, so the old wall, the Cathedral, art gallery, museum, etc. and restaurants and shopping are within minutes. We did not get to explore outside Girona as we would have liked, but we did, despite our illness, enjoy this place very much.

Can Vespa is a great place and I would highly recommend it. The place was clean, spacious, in a great location, quiet, and with a really nice sunny terrace. It has character that goes with the old town and Brigit and her husband were very kind and helpful. Girona is a wonderful city and was a great base for day trips to the coast and to Barcelona. It was an excellent value. We have a two year old and were careful of the terrace, yet with a watchful eye the house was really great for her (quiet at night, space to play, etc.). The kitchen has just enough (knives, pots, etc.) and the stove top was enough for preparing meals and it worked great for us. Looking forward to a return trip.

I'll just echo what all the other reviewers have said. The apartment is LARGE; there is a lovely big master bedroom in addition to the bunk-bedded 2nd bedroom, a huge living and dining space, lovely terrace with afternoon sun just right for drowsing if you're feeling lazy. Everything about Can Vespa is spotless and tidy. Quite a bargain, too, considering what some of the hotels in Catalonia charge! And since traffic is limited in the Old Quarter, there was absolutely no noise inside the apartment - not even the ubiquitous motor scooters. The owners were very kind, picked up maps and pamphlets for us from the Visitors' Center, were available for anything needed. Sometimes it's hard to judge distances when you're just looking at a map in a guide book - renters should know that Girona is very compact and all the sites are at most a 5 or 10 minute stroll from the apartment. This includes the train station which is only a few blocks past the river - it was an easy walk for us, even with our baggage. Do not be worried about the stairs in front of the apt. - my husband, who walks with a cane after a recent accident, found them easily negotiable, no problem at all. Lovely stay of five days - just right! Highly recommended VRBO listing - thank you Brigit and Jaume. Tourist tips: The highlight of our sightseeing was the Creation Tapestry at the Cathedral. And the cup of chocolate at a cafe called 1900, just across the river near the Museu de Cinema (lots of fun) - the thickest, most scrumptious chocolate imaginable. We also loved the morning market (Mercat de Lleo) for fresh fruit, vegetables and meat if you're going to coo - it's a lively place. And the walk along the top of the ancient city wall provides views you won't soon forget.

We would highly recommend Can Vespa to a small family or group. It is very quiet and close to shops, restaurants and interesting places to visit. There are quite a few stairs to get to the apartment...but then there are stairs everywhere in the old quarter. The balcony was a sunny haven. Girona is a beautiful city and a great base for exploring the coast, mountains or Barcelona. The only thing missing was an electric jug..otherwise very well appointed.Thank you so much for a lovely stay Brigit.

We stayed at Can Vespa almost one week with our children 11 and 9. We totally enjoyed everything about the apartment. The location was perfect for quick access to the delights of the old city. Brigit and Jaume were alway very pleasant and helpful. They gave us good travel advice that helped us make decisions about what to do in the area. Girona turned out to be a fantastic place to stay and to use as a base for day trips in the region including FC Barcelona soccer games!!!! The apartment was a refuge to recharge after a long day of sightseeing and you can't ask for anything more. Thanks Brigit and Jaume for making it so.
