The Big Blue Fort Morgan Alabama

Guest: Kathy Q.
Date of Stay: 07/16/11 Review Submitted: 07/24/11

What a wonderful week! The view, the amenities - it could not have been better. Having stayed in OBX last summer and having had to haul coolers, chairs and umbrellas upstairs, across boardwalks, and over dunes, the simplicity of stepping onto the porch to ocean and sand was too much! We plan to return. Thanks for offering your home for my family's enjoyment.

Eight gals away for a few days at Easter - couldn't ask for a better place to stay. Water was too rough and choppy to swim, but we had the most wonderful view and close enough to hear the waves. House was well appointed. Thank you for your consideration.

Amazing home! The tropical colors and decor put us in holiday mode from the moment we walked in. One week of relaxation, tranquility and peace of mind. 9 of us stayed in this marvelously appointed home, soaking in the sun from the wonderful deck and enjoying the beach, which lay just steps away. The kids enjoyed the uncrowded beach and my wife and I were able to relax knowing how easy it was to keep an eye on them. No loud spring break partiers, no drunken college students. Just solitary walks on the beach at sunrise and sunset and leisurely fishing within eye's view of the house. From surround sound in the sitting area to falling asleep at the sound of the ocean and cool breezes, this was just what the Dr. ordered for my family and I. The kids' expression and demeanor throughout our stay confirmed that our choice was the right one. Will definitely make this our go to vacation home for Gulf Shore vacations!

Have you ever said that if you hit the lottery that you would buy your own private island? Save your money and rent BIG BLUE!!! This house has it all. You can lay on the beach and enjoy the sounds of the waves crashing or sit on the deck and watch the sun come up over the water. There are other houses around and all the restaraunts are close by but the peace and quiet right behind this house on the beach makes you want to stay longer! Our whole family was pleased with the vacation and we look forward to many happy returns! Thanks Veronica!! You were GREAT!

Big Blue Vacation

Guest: Brow (Grand Rapids,Michigan)
Date of Stay: 04/03/10 Review Submitted: 04/14/10

Our family loved Big Blue! We are 5 adults and a 4 year old and 2 year old. Big Blue fit our needs perfectly. Bedrooms were great...nice to put the little ones to bed upstairs and we could have adult time downstairs without bothering them. We had plenty of space and Big Blue was well equipped since we ate all our meals there. Location was great...we liked being away from the crowds of Gulf Shores=) We loved the view and sat on the uncrowded beach daily. We saw dolphins every day...lots of them and close too! Had a ton of fun hunting for sand crabs at night. Thanks to Veronica for great instructions in preparing us for a wonderful vacation=) We would recommend this place to all!

Wonderful time at Big Blue

My family and I enjoyed a wonderful spring break week at Big Blue! Veronica has done a wonderful job of decorating the house and making it very comfortable and accommodating - we felt at home from the first night there. As we were having dinner on the last night, one of my children asked if we could come back next year. It was great having the beach right outside the door. In making the reservation, Veronica was great to deal with. I would recommend Big Blue to any family looking for a nice and relaxing place to vacation.

Our family just spent a week at Big Blue and had a fantastic time! The furnishings are amazing and the house is comfy but still very luxurious. To be able to walk straight out on the beach was very convenient, especially with a four year old. This was her first trip to the beach and we know it won't be her last...Thanks Veronica, for everything!! Laurie Jo Stowers

Big Blue ...we'll be back!

This is my family's first experience at renting a beach house. Big Blue is just as beautiful and accomodating as it's advertised. Veronica is a very gracious lady and conscientous owner. Our party of 11 including my children and grandchildren had the most stress free week. We saw dolphins from the deck, grilled fresh seafood, looked for crabs at night, and just enjoyed every moment we were at Big Blue. Some of us went deep sea fishing, shopping, and visited a Civil War reenactment. Time seemed to float because we were all so relaxed! Honestly, I could have just stayed at the house the entire week and mostly did! I'd absolutely recommend Big Blue to anyone who wants a lovely home in a beautiful setting for vacation. We plan to return as a family and my grown children are also talking about returning with some of their married friends. I really think that anything less than Big Blue would be a disappointment! See you next year, Veronica!

The home was even better than the photos - and that was impressive to us as soon as we walked in. It was a perfect place right on the beach for our three young families. The bunk bed room was a hit with our group of seven kids ages 3-7. The IPOD dock to the sound system kept the tunes rolling all week - what a thoughtful addition! Truly this is a home well-appointed to provide your every need for a relaxing week. While I'm sure the restaurants in the area are wonderful, we cooked, grilled, and baked every single meal in the huge kitchen and didn't need to pack a single extra appliance. An extra ice maker to keep the drinks cool at night? No problem, it's there. Personally, it was the first (ever!) trip to the beach for my family and it was a memorable first impression, thanks in large part to the home and Veronica's care and communication during our trip. Thank you so much! Brian, Green Bay, WI

Already Planning Our Next Trip To Big Blue

Guest: Jay M. (Tulsa, OK)
Date of Stay: 03/28/09 Review Submitted: 04/07/09

Big Blue was exactly what we'd hoped. Many times you book online and just pray what you saw online is what you end up with. This home is exactly what was represented and much more. It's beautiful, on a quiet stretch of beach near Ft. Morgan. All rooms are fitted for comfort and the owner has done her best to think of everything, down to baby beds and beach chairs. Everything about this house is first class. My wife and I went with the hope of finding a vacation home we could return to with family and friends. We found it!! We are already planning our next trip later this year. We heartily recommend Big Blue for just a couple or the whole family.

We are so thankful that we were allowed to spend our week long spring break family vacation at this absolutely beautiful home. The house was wonderful and had everything we could possibly need or want. Veronica was great and made the planning very easy. We had two young children along and they were easily entertained and made wonderful memories. The beach was so private and relaxing, yet close to a fun filled day of shopping. I have already recommended this house to many other family members and friends. We will definitely be back!!!!

My sister, cousins, and all our children met at Big Blue for a fun beach vacation. Big Blue is right on the beach with all of the amenities you need for the beach (umbrella, chairs, toys). And we had a baby with us, so it was great not having to lug around a pack n play or high chair. Veronica was very easy to deal with and professional. WE had a terrific time! (PS - if you are coming from the West, I do not recommend trying to take the ferry - you will be tempted by your GPS but don't do it!)

My family and I stayed a week at Big Blue. We loved it. The home is beautiful and decorated the same. It was spacious and comfortable. The beach is beautiful, not crowded, I like that and the shopping is only a few miles down the road. I don't do a lot of shopping, I spend my time at the beach. I can shop at home but can't enjoy listening and watching the waves come or enjoy playing in the ocean. We saw dolphins most every day. I was lucky and caught one jumping out of the water with my camera!!! My son-in-law swam out and got close to them, on a raft of course. WE LOVED BEING THERE! Wish we could have stayed longer.

Thanks, Veronica, for making this vacation with our kids and grandkids, THE BEST ONE YET.......The home is exceptionally clean and surprisingly well stocked, right down to the baby monitor. The kids loved the games and toys and we went crabbing at night and the highlight of the stay was your recommended dophin cruise. We loved the fact that the beach was not crowded and we watched the dolphins swim right from the deck! The week went so quickly....it was relaxing and fun! We took a shade canopy with us and it was great, we just left it out and worked so well for the kids to get out of the sun and rest between sandcastle construction. Everyone loved it! Thanks again for all you do to make the vacation experience the best it can be.

We had a great stay at Big Blue. We really enjoyed watching the dolphins swim by daily. We also saw stingrays swimming with us, and my kids loved watching all the crabs!! BIG BLUE is a PERFECT vacation respite! The home is beautiful and well taken care of - Veronica has taken the time to attend to every detail and our groups (three moms and nine kids) could not have felt more pampered and relaxed. We cooked every evening and there's plenty of room for all the kids to "spread out" so we didn't feel like we were on top of each other. Veronica is a gracious and delightful host - felt like we were her guests the whole time. A WONDERFUL experience! Thank you!

Veronica and Mitch...Big BLue was an exceptional place! I LOVED our vacation, as did the whole family. The weather was gorgeous every day, and despite the consistent 90's temps., and high humidity, we thrived on the beach! The Gulf shore changes daily with schools of dophins swimming by, interesting fish, lovely sand, and the sun. Then there are those spacious rooms at Big BLue. It's true... it IS better than the pictures. Drake (20 mos.) was fine in the crib, and had fun with all the toys available to him. Our 21 year old made due with the DVD, TV, and wave skimming. We had everything we could have wanted. I will never forget the roses! Thanks! Just wanted you to know...Elizabeth Craig

Dear Veronica, We absolutely loved staying in your beautiful home last week. Everyone had a fabulous time and Big Blue is amazing! We cooked all our meals there since we had small children with us and your kitchen could not have been better stocked. We had originally planned to eat out more and take in the dolphin cruise and some other suggested activities, but ended up enjoying every fun-filled moment right there at Big Blue! It is truly amazing! The dolphins came three and four times a day. Our eighteen month old grandson encountered a blue heron up close and personal on his very first morning stroll along the beach. Our four granddaughters loved swimming and playing in the water and building sandcastles on the beach. We have taken home such wonderful memories of our family's beach vacation. Thank you so much for sharing your fabulous home with us. We had a great time and will be back again. Keith and Linda Leffel Edmond, Oklahoma

Veronica, our week in your home was terrific, just what we needed. I did not leave the whole time, just hung out on the beach and the upper deck. I cooked each night in that wonderfully equipped kitchen (missed having an outdoor grill). It was definetly a streess free environment. I am recommending your places to my friends and family and would like to stay in the N.C. house soon. Thanks for your first class accomodations. Hedy King

Veronica, Your listing doesn't do the actual experience of "Big Blue" justice! It is indeed a visual from "Architectural Digest" with a feeling of being in a luxurious yet warm and inviting home. This was our first experience with the "Gulf Shores" area and I fear that you have spoiled us forever. Although the surrounding areas of Gulf Shores and Orange Beach seemed to have their good points, when we made the very short drive from Gulf Shores to Ft. Morgan where Big Blue is located, it opened up a wonderful view, experience and sense of privacy that we didn't feel was offered anywhere else. Waking to the sound of the waves against the shore every morning and taking a walk on the beach was a slice of heaven. My husband and I enjoyed talking to the others along the shore and found everyone warm, friendly and extremely helpful. We enjoyed a day on the golf course with another couple we had just met who were from Upstate New York. We found some delicious "early bird" specials for dinner at Zekes and the Original Oyster House in Golf Shores and The Beach Club just down the street from Big Blue, which were delightful places where you could dress casual. Although there is plenty to do in the Ft. Morgan area near Big Blue, we found the drive to Gulf Shores surprisingly short if we chose to do something in Gulf Shores. You provided everything one could need in "Big Blue" and watching the dolphins and crabs was exciting and wonderful. Just a hint to the dolphin lovers. Look for the large swarm of birds over the water and as they dive in to get fish watch for the dolphins jumping. It was just my husband and I but if you wonder what the children would do, don't even hestitate! There is much for children to do in Gulf Shores, only a few miles from Ft. Morgan. Just to mention a few there are go carts, water parks, Amusement Parks, Movie theaters and even a seperate TV with a VCR in the "kids" room for movies. This is without talking about all the things the kids can do on the beach itself. I would be remiss if I didn't mention that Lambert's restaurant (Home of the throwed rolls) in Golf Shores would be a delightful experience for any family. The food is good but the experience as a whole is not to be missed. But be sure you're hungry! As you can tell, I can't say enough about your beautiful Beach Home. Thank you for the experience. I would highly recommend "Big Blue" to anyone and everyone! Joni & Stan Rusiecki Lansing, MI 489

My brothers and our family stayed at Big Blue the week of 2/27/05. It was our parents 50th wedding anniversary and we planned a surprise party for them. Everything turned out beautifully. Veronica thought of everything you could have needed in terms of preparing the house for guests. The accommodations were wonderful and the house immaculate and so very tastefully decorated. Being right on the beach was so relaxing. In the morning, we'd open the blinds for the view of the ocean. What a blessing everything was! I would whole-heartedly recommend staying at Big Blue for your vacation.

AND IT COULD NOT HAVE BEEN MORE PERFECT. All was as great or better than promised, decor and amenities superb, all perfectly thought-out and provided to the smallest detail. Perfect backdrop for a perfect week spent with friends from Germany and Connecticut. We are recommending this most thoughtful owner and her properties to all of our friends - we will definitely be back.

We had a wonderful time in your home. We shared it with my brother and his wife, his daughters family and my daughters family. In all we had 8 adults and 6 children 6 and under. the bedroom arrangement was ok, the room with the queen bunks was really full but adequate! the furniture and decorations were first class! We felt like we could just move in and as I tried to tell the women there is no need to bring everything along. This place has all you need except a swimsuit and food. They still brought too MUCH STUFF.

You thought of everything I would have when it come to bringing 3 boys to the beach! My kids absolutely loved your home. My favorite memories are of my husband chasing my boys in the surf, chasing crabs with nets at dusk and building sand castles. What a glorious week! Thank you , Thank you for sharing your home with us. Till next year...

Dear Veronica, We have had many vacations in the Florida, Alabama, Mississippi, and Texas coastal areas. Over the years, we have rented a penthouse and many well-furnished condos; however, none of these compare to the amenities of Big Blue in Fort Morgan. Our previous rentals cannot compare to Big Blue. Our family thoroughly enjoyed every minute of our stay. Thank you for sharing your beautiful home with our family. Ken & Evelyn Gurley

WOW,We stayed at Big Blue and it was greath indeed,In addition to an absolutely beautiful location, the accommodations were outstanding. The bunk beds for the grandchildren were queen size beds, with a pull out trundle bed. We could have put the whole family in that one room! There was even a baby bed stored in the master closet. My wife seems to have thought of everything you could need to make your stay delightful.

If you choose to vacation in Big Blue, you will love it! Everything about Big Blue is the very best! The beachfront location was our favorite part - the sand and surf were perfect. We had the beach to ourselves much of the time, with space to fly a kite and play games. Big Blue is so beautifully decorated and has everything you need to make your stay relaxing and fun. Veronica was so kind and helpful! We took her suggestions on many restaurants and the Dolphin Cruise, which made our stay even better. We made our selection from the Internet and when we arrived found it to be exactly as presented - in fact, it was even more beautiful and wonderful. AND, if you happen to "lose a tooth" while vacationing at Gulf Shores, the Big Blue tooth fairy is very generous. Also a great place to celebrate Birthdays! 7/24/04 to 8/1/04 I just have to say this was the most relaxing vacation we've taken with our extended family in years. Having the beach at your doorstep and the covered porch to watch the activity on the beach was wonderful. It reminds me of the way the beach was when I went with my family as a child and to be able to give that to my kids was wonderful. The house is so spacious, beatifully decorated, and cheerful. It made for the perfect getaway for our family. We would have all stayed an extra week if possible! The 8 and 10 year olds love the dolphins that came by 2 to 3 times a day, and the crabs at night (naming each and every one of them), the 15 to 19 year olds loved the seclusion of the beach and riding the waves. The older crowd loved fishing in the early morning, the beach at sunset, the deck, and the room to have nightly poker games. We couldn't have asked for more. Thanks Veronica for sharing your lovely home and hospitality with us. The Hays Clan San Antonio Texas and Birmingham Alabama

Dear Veronica & Mitch, We really enjoyed out stay at Big Blue. It was so nice that the beach is right there! We watch dolphins and went crabbing at night. This has been our favorite beach vacation. We have gone to Destin, Fl the past 5 years but from now on, we will come to Gulf Shores/Fort Morgan. Thank you for making this a great vacation!

Things that we love about Big Blue: - The house was perfect. - The kitchen was amazing - didn't need a thing! - The kids loved the bunk bed. - Watching the kids play from the deck. - It was so quiet & the beach was delightful - Shopping & things to do were not too far and not too close with either. - We appreciated not having to pack the beach chairs and umbrellas! - Got a lot of use out of the DVD player. - Catching crabs & watching dolphins. Thanks you for sharing your home! The Horlicks Dallas, Texas

We vacationed at Big Blue during the week of 4/24/04 and had a wonderful time despite inclement weather. Big Blue is a beautiful home and is well equipped with everything you could possibly want, which made us feel right at home. Veronica was very accomodating and so eager to make our stay a very pleasant one and I'd like to thank her very much for that. Our favorite part was the beach and Gulf being right at the doorstep. Thank you again Veronica and we hope to return soon.

Veronica, Just a short note to let you know how much we enjoyed staying at your beautiful home last week. We had a terrific time! The house is fabulous! We cooked most of our meals since we had the small children with us and your kitchen was well stocked! The waffle iron, pancake griddle and cappucino maker were unexpected surprises! The furnishings and decor in your home are wonderful and we appreciated the many VCRs and DVD player. The beach view and covered porch was fantastic. It let the little ones be outside to play without getting sandy or too much sun. And it was a perfect spot to watch the dolphins - they seemed to come twice a day. We also had a heron come up very close to us on the beach and one day, we saw a large group of rays in the shallow water. The beach is beautiful and we couldn't have asked for a better spot for our family get together. We would definitely rent with you again if we head back that way! Thanks for your personal attention and genuine concern for a fun vacation for us! Kim

We especially enjoyed watching our 16 mo. old daughter at the beach for the first time - priceless!! Thank you for all the EXTRAS - baby crib, baby monitor and all the baby stuff. It made it so easy with our daughter. We had a great vacation and will be back again!

OH MY GOSH! We are pleasantly surprise and the home is MUCH better than we expected! What a week we have in your home. We visited the Naval Musuem which was interesting and the Fort. But the dolphins were the best. Thank you again Veronica and Mitch for the use of your home. We cannot think of a better place to celebrate our sons birthday and to vacation on the beach! What A Great Thanksgiving!! I wanted to let you know how much our family was impressed by your home. They thought the large living and kitchen area was great. Gave us room to get together in one space. Everyone loved the great beaches and the views from the porches. We did get to see some dolphins, but we also got to watch the Blue Angel Flight Team from Pensacola NAS practice in front of the house. Another plus. We also found a professional photograher to take a family picture. Veronica, thanks again.

Alabama for our honeymoon? That seemed to be the general response from people we talked to, but then I showed them pictures of Big Blue and explained that it didn't do it justice. Whether its the white sand meeting the gulf, being lulled into sleep by the sound of breaking waves; the red sunrise and sunsets; it was simply fantastic. Did I mention dolphins? Highly recommended.

Owner response:Our thoughtful and very eloquent honeymoon guest wrote this wonderful poem about their honeymoon stay in Big Blue. The poem gives you a glimpse of what is it like to vacation in Big Blue. We found this place Where a big blue sky and a big blue gulf meet a big blue home. Where the days begin with a screaming red sun that turns to a pastel morning sky. Where the endless sunlit days are filled with important things, like narrating the lives of the sand crab, and then briefly interrupted by the midday parade of dolphins. Elegant birds soar inches from the water in search of prey and tall grass waves gently in the breeze, and when the sun does fall, it does so with a shout and not a whisper, and then you settle into sleep serenaded by the hypnotic rhythm of breaking waves. Yeah, we found this place, we found this place where life breathes. -mpt Homeowner, Veronica

WOW! What a nice place you have. We could not get over how wonderful your home is. The furnishings are so nice and your attention to detail is impressive. There was not one thing that we needed that was not provided. The view is also spectacular! We enjoyed looking for dolphins over our morning coffee while the kids played in the sand. We definatly want a return trip!

What a wonderful vacation! Our family arrived at "Big Blue" very excited and looking forward to a relaxing respite...we were not disappointed. The house was so enchanting and warm, you felt like you were coming home. My family enjoyed the spaciousness of the rooms, the white sands of the 'private' beach and the attention to details was evident in every room...down to the nets for hunting beach creatures. We will be back to re-live the good memories we have taken back home with us. Thank you Veronica for one of our best family vacations. The Paul Meeks family
